Instead of wood you should try a slate rock stack. He or she will be able to squeeze in the tight gaps and find the perfect temperature gradient that it likes. They like to absorb heat from the belly as well, the wood won't get as hot as rocks would.

Look into reptile systems twin T5 luminaire . Uvb system that you can add a sunrise , sunset and the higher midday uvb output that both the animals and plants would see in the wild . It's something I'm playing around with at the minute

It's usually recommended for ackie monitors that for 1 ackie monitor you have a 4x2x2 and then for every additional ackie you add 1 foot of space in length because every foot of space added length wise adds 2 square feet of floor space to the enclosure. So a 4x2 enclosure would be 8 square feet of floor space a 5x2 would be 10 square feet of floor space and a 6x2 would be 12 square feet of floor space
@jessiefranklin9318
@jessiefranklin9318 3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion a 4x2x2 is to small for an ackie. You should have something more like 5x3x3. Gives you enough room for substrate depth and to give them climbing room and gives them lengths. A 5x2x3 would work fine to
@jessiefranklin9318
@jessiefranklin9318 3 жыл бұрын
Btw I don't think your a horrible person if you keep an ackie in a 4x2x2 I just feel they are more active than say beardies or blue tongues and need more space.
@mch.l.trecords9169
@mch.l.trecords9169 3 жыл бұрын
@@jessiefranklin9318 I agree that more space is better I'm just saying that 4x2x2 is usually the bare minimum that you can really get away with from what I've heard from other ackie keepers and breeders.

@@jessiefranklin9318 also back when I lived in arizona I used to breed all kinds of reptiles including ackie monitors as a side job. Sadly I had to move to Iowa and the kinds of reptiles you can keep in Iowa are extremely limited. Mainly because Iowa follows the guidelines that the new lacey act has for what they call the " dangerous species list ". Which includes so many reptiles it's ridiculous including a lot of reptiles that are completely harmless if raised properly and the vast majority of reptiles on the list are non-venomous to top that off. I do plan on moving back to arizona someday where the reptile laws are less strict but until then I'm going to have to breed amphibians which are notoriously more difficult to breed.
@jessiefranklin9318
@jessiefranklin9318 3 жыл бұрын
@@mch.l.trecords9169 Yeah I'm sorry. Hope you can get back to Arizona or at least somewhere you can go back to doing what you enjoy. When I'm older I want to open a reptile zoo/rescue and breed more exotic reptiles like tegus and monitors.

My BTS is currently in his juvenile enclosure too - it is a bit small for a full grown Northern. BUT....the best thing about juvenile enclosures is that when you upgrade them to adult enclosure you literally HAVE to get a new animal to put into the now-empty juvenile enclosure!!!!!

Long time ackie keeper here. It looks great! Very good spacing, especially for a baby. If I could offer some advice though, those tiny holes behind the vents should be sealed off ideally. A baby ackie can easily slip out of those and ackies are smart and mischievous. Give them the opportunity to cause havoc and they will take it and run with it lol
