Who ever gave her thumbs down is absolutely nuts. She is the best meal prepper, homesteader I have ever found on YT. Plus she cooks like my Nana used to. Because of this young lady here, I've been able to meal prep and start my own gardening and canning my fruits of love. That's what I call my fruits and veggies that I grow myself. Thank you so much, you are an inspiration to me. Much love to you and your four legged babies. ❤😋😀

Three suggestions: - for folks planning to buy Delta lids, they are available in packs of multiple colors. If you don’t like to label your buckets, you can remember the oats are in the bucket with the red lid, etc. - consider using one-piece lids for mason jars you use for dry storage. They’re so much easier to use than the two-piece lids. - consider covering the windows in your food storage room. Light will damage food especially if it’s stored in clear jars.

You are so quickly becoming my FAVE! I tell my husband that you're my spirit animal 😅 so please don't be offended when I say that you should use up the old items first, without putting new on top (like when refilling flour bins). When I was a lot younger, I worked in a large kitchen and they drilled the acronym FIFO into my head (First In First Out). Food rotation is important! Thanks for another great video. Definitely pantry goals for me 💚

I just found your channel and I have been wanting to make a change in mine and my husband's routine. We have conflicting schedules so I am never able to cook at night and your freezer meal videos have inspired me to start trying! We have 4 dogs and no children so seeing that you are in relatively the same boat it makes me want to go forward with this project even more! My dive into the world of "meal prepping" or "freezer storage" started with the run of the mill videos where the creators always had big families with children. I understand that is why it worked for them but seeing how it is only you and your husband and you are doing it this way makes me feel very encouraged!!! Thank you so much for documenting your life and showing the way for wanna-be homemakers like myself!!

I've heard that freezing can backfire because it adds moisture, so when you freeze and then dump in a bucket, you've got moisture that can cause mold. Have you encountered this? Thanks.
@janarinehart6888

@@jamiemueller1881 That might be. But I freeze the bags in the freezer... then I take them out after a week. I then open the bag and leave it open with utulity fan on during the day. Then I close it up and the next day I pour it into mylat bag that goes into the bucket. I have done this same procedure for many years. I have never had any problem with moisture. I order many pounds of flours and oats and grains and I have never had bugs. It works great. You can also put 2000 cc of oxygen absorbers in the mylar bag and seal it up.

@@MayaKanaKa Hi! I clear out a shelf in my freezer and place the entire bag in the freezer. I leave it for 5 days. Then I bring it out, open the top and let it sit for several hours to let it come to room tempurature and make sure there is no moisture in the oats. Then I take out the amount that I will need. I do it in 2-3 cups. I then vaccuum seal the oats in a vaccuum seal bag. You can also use mason jars. I have been doing this for many years. I have never lost any grains doing this. They will stay in that bag fresh as new.

Your storage room with all of that space and shelves are awesome. You probably know this but I just thought I would tell you anyway if you are going to put canning in there with glass jars you need to block the sunlight out of those big beautiful windows because that will damage your canned goods.

Three advantages to sun-blocking window treatments in your pantry room: Cooler rooms extend the life of both dry goods and home-canned foods. Ditto for UV exposure as it’s not just heat that causes degradation. Also privacy and safety. You may love and voluntarily feed your neighbors in emergency situations, but there are always those who will take forcibly and feel justified. Just found your channel and am enjoying catching up with your videos! I am going to make your baked oatmeal breakfast dish! But onto today’s topic… My pantry room serves a variety of functions, so I protect my home canned foods with black construction paper sleeves around the jars or to top the new open-top jar boxes. I have also hung nice light-blocking curtains across the front of the double closet converted to shelf storage and in front of the back wall of shelving units. What surprised me most with these curtain walls was how much it cut down on dust on my jars! Plus, when I do have the window blinds open, my foods are hidden from outside view.

Have a suggestion for you to consider. Split the room into two, and since you also use the space for growing keep the window side for buckets and growing stuff. Then get plenty of heavy duty sets of blackout curtains to section off your pretty canned goods. Voila! Problem solved.

Love your videos. You're a very clever lady with boundless energy. Noticed you used 2 buckets to fill with the white flower. Here's a hack to make sure you use the oldest flour up first: Fill the empty bucket about 2/3 full. Then dump the older flour in on top. Then fill the other now empty second bucket. Obviously use the first bucket first. 😘

If you are going to store long-term food storage in a room with big windows and want to use it as a pantry, you need to IMMEDIATELY hang up blackout curtains. A pantry with canning jars should be dark 99.5% of the time. the other 0.05% when you turn on the light to retrieve something. The sun coming through those windows will "cook" or warm your canning jars and food storage daily. PLEASE put up blackout curtains. Another tip, purchase mylar bags for your buckets. Good luck!

You are gracious in showing your pantry items……myself I’m trying to keep mine hidden as much as I can…….if there is shortages people become desperate and they could seek you out……if you have a basement I’d be putting your items down there …cooler and out of view,,,, I remember my grandpa hid their cow and he sat on his back porch with a gun to protect his garden and his live stock…. During this past shortage local farmers had animals stolen, barns broken into and equipment taken. Especially gas cans….people to lazy to prep but have no problem taking from others.

It was nice to see your official package inspectors helping out. My dogs, especially my Border Collie, love to thoroughly sniff every new package I bring into my house. I'm just about to get started with bulk buying, storing and canning. I recently had to change jobs and now work remotely from home. I was able to trade in a forty mile round tip commute for a zero mile round trip commute. :-) With the forty mile commute I was in the habit of stopping at a store between work and home fairly frequently and just buying a few things at a time. With my new routine, bulk buying will be a better approach. And if it saves money in the long run it's a win/win. That's especially true since the nearest grocery store to me is a small town grocery store with a smaller selection and larger prices.

18:07 : I spotted how you store your canning lids in the corner of your cupboard! Why haven’t I thought of that? Mine are in a basket with the rings and it’s so messy. That is much cleaner. Great idea

I would advise to put some blinds on your windows as light can shorten the shelf life of canned goods. We turned our back bedroom into a walk in pantry and we put reflective coating on the windows, cutting the direct light by half. You are doing a wonderful job and yes it takes time to put together long term food storage. Cheers from Australia

Most people don't have built-ins in their pantry. I have a walk-in pantry that also has a closet and I have the same shelves that you were gifted that I purchased from Northern tool in your neck of the woods. I have three of those and the baker's rack I have a deep freeze and I just had an upright freezer delivered Thursday December 30th 2021. The upright is going to make me very very happy because sitting in a wheelchair I can't get down into the deep freeze so I need my caregiver to do it and it doesn't work so well that way. Now I can keep in the deep freeze what I want to and keeping me upright things I use often.

For labeling we use painters tape and marker.

That’s awesome! My hubby thought I was crazy for doing buckets a few years ago, but i love it. I used square based food safe buckets (fit better in my space) from ULine and green painter’s tape with permanent marker to label (cheaper and you can write in bigger font). I also include on painter’s tape my personalized instructions for things like rice:water ratio on all the different kinds of rice i buy. You have amazing energy, I think i lost my energy after i had kids.

What a great dad-in-law! I LOVE a stocked pantry! Such a great convenience! I'm like you, I want everything on hand. I try never to go grocery shopping for one item! How do you lable your 5/6 gallon buckets. I cut the labels off the bags and use clear tape to attach to the containers! And last year, I received a lable maker as a gift! I love that thing! I like the Gamma lids. I'd never heard of before! I too buy butter and freeze. Before the winter holidays, I stock up because, many times the prices will go up ; ( You could spread a piece of plastic under your buckets to minimize clean up, then fold up and take outside and shake!
