Thankyou RNZ for allowing comments. Kia Kaha Aotearoa. Dont lose who we are. Its a world of untold dangers and challenges, and our potential survival or Thriving will depend on us as people staying together and looking after our local communities. The Government is always the government, and Beaureaucrats are always present. But we are fortunate to now have some leadership that is finally looking forward to solutions for our Mokopuna prosperous future

Well done David and Nicole! This discussion is long overdue... Not one protestor or commentator has said why all kiwis being equal under the law is wrong and why providing Government services based on need, not ethnicity is wrong. I sincerely have no idea why anyone could be upset by ACT's proposed ideas. The only reply has been "honour the treaty". Frankly, National, ACT and NZ First will honour the treaty. Claims will still be settled. Māori language and culture will still be supported (and, for example, funded in schools). What is the real issue here?

@@ethanpaki988 The issue was the previous Labour government was implementing co-governance by stealth (e.g. Māori health authority, three waters, etc.). See Today's Q&A interview with David Seymour as he outlines some other examples. Further, see He Paupau and Vision 2040 with the related calls for a new governance system: A tricameral parliament. ACT's proposal will prevent Aotearoa becoming divided and having different laws for Māori and non-Māori as envisioned by some politicians and academics. So, ACT's proposal is to entrench "equal rights and responsibilities for all" into NZ law.

Perhaps it’s that those people with historically valid grievances feel that those grievances have not been settled yet, and that talk of a “one people” is a convenient way of white washing away their concerns…. I say “perhaps” because as the word “perhaps” suggests, I don’t really know. It’s just a thought.

My Great Great grandmother was full Maori - Te Atiawa. I dont want to be "Maori" because "Maori" are stuck in a feudal system. Instead of a chief controlling us we have a committee. This system is still keeping the majority of Maori poor. This is 2024....... how many countries in the world are still have Feudal systems? We have to stop blaming governments and past land losses for our ill health, gangs ( we dont object to or do nothing about) and everything else we moan about. Why cant Maori take personal responsibility for our health, wealth and happiness etc. You dont sign a treaty if you win the war. The question is how do Maori get out of the Feudal system that is holding all Maori back? At least the English land laws gave individuals rights to land and that solved many disputes. 5000 Maori "owning one piece of land does not work! Maori socialism does not work. Regardless of the controversy over the treaty and personal circumstances anyone in NZ can succeed financially , improve their health, own their own home etc if they study how to achieve and work towards there goals. If we wanted to change the past we should have won the war! Its time we stopped blaming the past, get out of the Feudal mentality and moved on as one country and one people.

Greater numbers and reductionism.......There are more of us than you. And nobody is 'full blooded' anyway (inference of referencing our other whakapapa) ..........lets not forget the racist phenotypical foundation of our epidimiological myths. So tracking what you are saying ....I in the interests of SELF DETERMINATION may not only ignore my whakapapa to Aotearoa, I may also ignore the other cultures I am connected to too because I am an individual and in magically falling out of the heavens like no other individual in the known UNIVERSE before me, l may choose which of my ancestors I outrightly ignore as opposed to the others whom I may blatantly deny. How blithely ungracious of me.......... Nothing is better than absolutely nothing , right?? Proudly, there are now more of us who don't conceivably know who we are now, than those who do know who we are. Therefore, being birds who cannot fly en masse is not an issue so long as we placate the bald eagle on the planes. Doing things correctly and being correct are a mere contrivance. Mr Seymour, are we truly all ORPHANS .....or only those of us removed by The State. Were none of us born into a group, - isn't that primary or first group just another name for family? Successive Governments have developed an ethos conducive to an 80 percent school truancy rate. WHY.....through liberating young people to be permanently bonded on devices for the majority of the day, as preferential to being an active member of an OPPRESSIVE group.....FAMILY. Got it, so that is that why elderly in New Zealand are discarded into retirement villages....Its obviously to teach all those GERIATRIC ORPHANS out there the benefits of individuating in their twilight years IN A GROUP context, and VILLAGE nonetheless with SOCIAL BENEFITS from living in a COLLECTIVE GROUP. Not exactly what Mickey Savage had in mind for SOCIAL HOUSING as not everyone has a Trust Fund. Perhaps our current generation of leaders have their 'I''s' too close together. Its 'I' this and 'I' that. Being in Aoteraoa brings great fortune. Unlike Stephen Hawkings Social Darwinism inspired reference to humans being mere naked apes on a cold star in space, here ONE can whakapapa directly to the Gods, well......... just a little tiny miniscule number, not noteworthy really, waste of time consulting with, barely even warrant a vote......DEMOCRACY AND REDUCTIONISM in action. ONE reading equals one step closer to your flawed vision for yet another BANANA REPUBLIC.....1 + 1 = 2.

How can the person who just hopped off the plane to join our beautiful country, know the struggles of the Māori? David - you and Nicole are ignoring the plight of Māori and the injustices inflicted on them due to past legislation. You have no filter David Seymour, if you are convicted about the facts you then transfer your frustrations on to the reporter or the crowd, which is not very professional at all. Long story short you cannot accept the truth of the matter and then go on to manipulate or generalise the conversation. How would you like us to change your policies in your Party. Its possible if you think you can change Te Tiriti and say all New Zealanders have Tino Rangatiratanga, when its clear Queen Victoria made it quite clear Hapu of the country look after their lands and their people. The thing we have in common is all citizens of New Zealand live in harmony together and when lawlessness is happening then the government acts. The question is does lawlessness apply to everyone or just to people the government targets such as Gangs. We are all equal. I didn't, you guys like twisting and manipulating words that aren't said. 99% of iwi money doesn't go back to everyday Maori, that is 100% evident in how Maori live. All I said is look what happened in Australia when a minority pushed for special treatment instead of equality, the majority voted that indigenous would not get special treatment. The same will happen here, if the majority want a vote and vote for change it would be because a minority is pushing g beyond their boundaries. You aren't special, you don't deserve to be treated differently to anyone else, you aren't better, you don't deserve special treatment ahead of others. If you believe you do then that is the clear definition or racism. Stop twisting words as you guys do to cause division.we are all NZers and all equal.

Whining n bullshitting. Seymore refuses to see maori in their numbers he just waffles on abt his perception of wat is not going to happen. Nit picking n bleating. Mckeefe attempting her re reo at waitangi was abysmal. Both seymore n mckeefe r delushional they dont listen.
