His course is awesome.... I only signed up two months ago and managed to complete his "basic training" modules and now I can comfortably run basic solo lines over any key..... the membership is surprisingly affordable given the amount of content available. Just to put into perspective I would have paid the same amount of money for only 3 face to face lessons in uk. Highly recommend ACTIVE MELODY.....

One of the first things that occurred to me as you explained the major and minor box locations was that you could do a 'call' in major and 'respond' in minor. You could do this alone or while swapping licks with another player. Very cool, as usual, Brian.

Hi there - this has been a real 'breakthrough' video for me, as a 20-year beginner looking to expand my knowledge / abilities through improvisation, and having watched hundreds of youtube videos that never quite crack it. There are lots of videos that are very theoretical, purely practical, superficial hacks, or just plain confusing in relation to minor / major / pentatonic / soloing principles etc. But this has a perfect balance of all those things in a way that is immediately useable. Thank you, I'm now a subscriber!

I'm watching this over and over again. This lesson put limitations on, but then shows other areas that use the same box... and why. This is forcing me to use various techniques that I ignore when I use the major scale because I can simply just go to the note instead of bending it. And, finding what notes to bend wasn't successful until now. Thanks.😊

Brian another good lesson from you. Regarding the boxes your teaching. Like the B minor pentatonic, & B major Pentatonic. Rather than call the major pentatonic, major, I call it the G# minor pentatonic. That might not be musically correct, but it's easier for me to visualise. So in A it's not A major pentatonic. But F# minor pentatonic, & so on. That's just how it evolved for me teaching myself. Also during my years of learning, most of the scales, which uncludes, the pentatonics & blues scales which the blues scale is the most ingrained in me, I have visualised the 5th of the scale as the resolution point. So in B it's F#, in A it's E, & so on. I can't automatically go to the root. I have to look for the root. That's just some of the bad habits I've gotten into teaching myself. My old theory teacher at the local music shop would jump up & down & rail over these incorrect ways of negotiating the guitar neck that I use.

I have been watching different guitar lesson videos for months and somehow this is the first time someone has mentioned you can switch between Minor/Major pent... smh... This really opens up a world of playing. Great lessons This is the 2nd one I Have watched, the other was similar but also just as helpful (the triangle/square patterns in maj/min pent). I am transposing all this to Ukulele while I wait to get a new guitar and your lessons are great especially since your concentrating on the bottom (top) four strings lol.

Woah, really cool. I almost feel like this is one of your best lessons on the pentatonic scale at least that I have watched. Your enthusiasm shows particularly with this video, which I interpret as a sign that you also are convinced of this method, and how it comes together. Really like how this complements previous beginner videos on that box and triangle. This brings it together for me. I really like the visual shapes approach, really makes it accessible for me. Also like the demonstration of full and half bends, and where to place them. The root note as an anchor was a revelation to me, how major and minor pentatonic are connected, didn't realize that before. Now I just need to figure out what notes distinguish major and minor, and where the critical ones are, e.g. the third, fifth, flat seven, minor third, which corner of box and triangle, then i think I'll have it figured out so I can play major and minor pent intelligently. Also striking to me was to hear major and minor right after each other like call and response, inspires typical blues lick. So cool. Definitely going to try and use that. The bends, like I said, really inspiring. I am a beginner with blues, have classical background and am using your channel to get ideas and widen my repertoire. Great work, really enjoy the videos and your particular approach.
