As a precursory comment, I fully believe there are symbols and moments I missed; others I caught but could not define or word properly, so I removed my attempts to discuss them (it was mostly word salad). The video was already quite long 🙃 That said, I welcome the discussion that I am certain will come, and I hope to make a future video to dive further into this masterpiece from Dimash. So please - watch with grace, as this was one of the most difficult reactions I’ve ever done! Dimash’s work here was so eloquent, the film so excellent, the symbolism so interesting, that it’s simply impossible to catch it all in one go. That’s the joy of these videos, and I can’t wait to return to this one in a few weeks and discuss it on a deeper level! Also - I’m sorry for the pauses at the end; I was blocked several times and had to pause the video more.

I can't wait to hear your thoughts. Some things in the video confused me. But overall I love the song, and the core message. I'm glad you'll revisit it after opening a discussion about it. There's a lot to unpack, and one time watch is not enough to deep dive and notice some details. Also, hope you're feeling better.

From my first time viewing Dimash, I Am Singer.... I only watched it because I kept seeing on the suggested lists on the right of the screen, this guy Dimash that kept getting hailed as the greatest singer ever, or the Best sing of all time. I figured it was some kids favorite singer and nothing more than hooraying their favorite singer. So I watched it just to get it out of my curiosity. BAMB ~! I got hooked and stunned all at once. SOS blew my mind on what a singer is actually capable of doing. That said, it's been like that for most of us Dears, we are so lucky to have discovered this human, and just look where he is taking all of us. This is no egotistical journey of one person, Dimash is trying to lead and show the whole world, All of us, to a much better place in life. At the end, when he puts on the shepherds garb, he looks to me just how I now view him, a shepherd or prophet leading us into our next path on this planet. This is so powerful, and Dimash goes out on a limb to bring this epic song/video to the world.

На концерте в Алматы Димаш уходил в такой ультразвук , что летучие мыши сходили с ума и просто бились в окна соседних со стадионом зданий. Мой сын работает в одном из них. This is subtitled "Requiem” but it is also a vision and a call to action. Dimash is steeped in sacred music and has a deep understanding of the mystic teachings and symbolism of the major world religions as well as Kazakh shamanism. It is not by coincidence that the first performance of this work took place on September 14, 2022, at the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan. The written statement at the end of the video is directly from the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together” signed jointly on February 4, 2019, by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmad el-Tayeb. Dimash met and spoke with both men at the September meeting. Everything Dimash does is intentional, and this piece has layers that would take a dissertation to unravel. I only touch on some of what struck me in the symbolism. The music is a dissertation all by itself. The pendant is an interesting element. It is a gnomon from a maritime compass sundial. This triangular blade is attached to the sundial, casting a shadow on the sundial while the perforated pinhole projects the image of the sun onto the dial. It was used for both timekeeping and navigation, with the gnomon oriented to True North. (Thank you, Snarky Tart for that information). In the MV, the child who later becomes the military commander never puts on the necklace. After Dimash, the boy, gives his friend the pendant, the camera focuses on his hand and shows that his friend has bent the gnomon in anger over being rejected by the girl. Thus bent, it can never be oriented to True North, and he has lost his moral compass. Later, we see a version of the gnomon, but distorted and without the hole that allows light to shine through, as the military insignia on the uniforms of the commander and his soldiers. Contemporary music is also present: With the phrase "We have passed the moment of Imagine," Dimash reminds us that we are past the sentiments evoked by the song "Imagine" by John Lennon. It is time to stop dreaming about a world of peace and harmony. If we choose life, if we wish for peace, if we want a world without war for our children and grandchildren, we must act and take up the long hard path up the mountain towards the light. It is the only way. The storyline is a very human one: we start as innocents until our hearts are broken, we fail, or our dreams are not realized. If in our pain and disappointment, we turn to anger and blame instead of acceptance, power instead of love, greed and envy instead of generosity, hatred instead of forgiveness, and revenge instead of justice, we sow the seeds for conflicts that can turn into war. The Piper's call is seductive as it promises redress for our grievances, control over our circumstances, and power over those who thwarted us, and this appeals to our wounded ego. However, let's remember that the Piper is a symbolic figure of Death from the Middle Ages, often used as a metaphor for trusting and following charismatic but dangerous and malevolent leaders to certain death. Even if we resist, as the adult Dimash character does, we often employ the same methods and weaponry as the Piper, and thus those who fight back betray peace as well because peace cannot be won through violence. That is the dilemma of those of us who did not start the war, who do not support the war, but are forced to respond in order to defend ourselves and those we love. How can we rid the world of evil without becoming what we fight against? The burning sign "Waldenberg" is a reference to the end of WWII when the US Army destroyed the last of the resistance by the German Wehrmacht to end the war in April 1945. As a native German, I have seen the aftermath of war as I was born a few years later when much of Germany was still in rubble. Waldenburg is only 28 miles from my hometown and was completely destroyed as you can see from the picture. Many of the dead in those bombed out buildings were women and children. The good guys defeated evil but at what price? iowaculture.gov/history/education/educator-resources/primary-source-sets/world-war-ii/american-troops-move-through The imagery of the denouement is powerful: The cries over the loss of a beloved child and the cries of giving birth to new life are presented as a call-and-response grounded by a powerful Om chant that creates a sacred space, reminding us that death and life are both sacraments and are interwoven. Dimash's vocalization and the pilgrims representing world religions and religious leaders, past and present, walking together shift the narrative toward the final conflict and finally redemption. When Dimash’s character decides to revenge the murder of his daughter, his state of consciousness is reflected in the darkening sky with lightning bolts of anger accompanying the storm of his emotions that buffet the pilgrims. The fog of war obscures the light. When he is killed after exacting retribution, he is dropped back into the "sacred womb" of Earth, the ocean of love and mercy, and is cleansed of the old hatreds and grievances that only bring more death and suffering. He breaks the wheel of endless war and suffering by choosing life. Dimash's scream of “we’re choosing life” is that of giving birth: the old earthly consciousness of an eye for an eye has to die to make way for a new spiritual consciousness that embraces all life. Soul is breaking free to return to its natural state of love and purity. The blowing of the shofar signals God's mercy for humankind when it turns from wrong to right: in the Zohar, the book of Jewish mysticism, it says: “When human beings repent of their sins, they blow the shofar on earth. Its sound ascends On High and awakens the heavenly shofar, and so mercy is aroused and judgment is removed.” Reborn as a leader for peace and love, Dimash's character in the form of his son becomes a spiritual guide for all of mankind on our shared journey up the mountain towards the light of God, however we may interpret or name the divine. We are all on the same path, even if our personal narratives, cultural heritage, race, and spiritual orientations are very different from one another. By focusing on our common destination rather than on our differences, we can walk together in peace and love and mutual respect. Carl Jung wrote: “Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely. Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” This is what Dimash has done with this work; he has made the darkness conscious. We can only raise our individual and collective consciousness by bringing to light what needs to be healed in our lives and our world, and then we need to work together to restore wholeness to what is broken and bring about peace and unity, one step at a time. We don’t have to wait. We can start right now. As the hymn tells us: "Let there peace in the world, and let it begin with me." Baraka Bashad.

I wonder why Dimash didn't make it obvious that it was another character at the end? when he plays both the father and son, it's hard for the viewer to know it's not the same charecter. he KNEW that there would be disagreements. he knew there would be confusion. and that the message of the son choosing the good path, would be lost. his shirt also almost looks like it's stained with blood. why does it look like this? why is dimash being confusing? why didn't he use a different person, to make it obvious that its another charecter? curious about your thoughts. thanks for the comment, it's very good.

@@mayganphynix8267 My thought is that he does want us to think, he does not want to make things easy and super obvious. He calls in this video to everything in us: heart, soul, mind. My first response was emotional, the video was a shot through the heart and a punch in the face. Cried all the time, was left in shock, and only several hours later could watch it again. Only several views later was able to unravel the story.

I also think that "We have have passed the moment of Imagine" shows the contrast of two different worldviews: the religious vs the no-religious one. In imagine the desirable peace comes from erasing individuality and differences: no countries, no heaven or hell, no religion, no posessions, people living "just for today". Lennon itsef described Imagine, which was took at the time he wrote it as a peace anthem, as "anti-religious, anti-nationalistic, anti-conventional, anti-capitalistic". He even joked ""It's virtually the communist manifesto". Dimash, on the other side, is a very religious man, and he is proposing other way: there will always be differences and diversity, we need to learn to embrace those with acceptance and respect, that is the only possible way to peace.

Hey Cedric, thank you for your reaction to Dimash's new MV! Did you know that Dimash received a medal from the Pope Francis recently? The Pope visited Kazakhstan in September this year to attend a peace meeting of world religious leaders held in Kazakhstan. FYI he sang it live in his phenomenal concert in Almaty on last Friday. I can assure you that it was one of the most powerful musical YT moments I have ever lived. All the concert was incredible but how he performed this song is beyond world. And the day after, when he presented the video during a meeting with his fans, the full stadium was in a total silence… Dimash is so more than the best vocalist in the world: he is an old sage, an old soul, in a young man. And his incredible voice is his instrument to convey his message. This man is a gift to the world.

With sincere gratitude, I thank you for going through so much excessive hassle to bring us your valuable analysis of this MV/film/song. Honestly, if Yoola perseveres in attacking sincere reactors who are bringing nothing but respect and a high skill level to analyzing Dimash's work? We should go all Soldier Dimash on their backside, mount an army of peaceful prayer warriors, and trudge uphill to storm their castle, demanding that they cease causing ill will and enmity. Sure, there are some youtubers who shouldn't be reacting to Dimash's work, who bring nothing but begging for subscribers; but there are some, like Cedric, whose expertise Dimash's team couldn't hope to buy, and who also contribute greatly to the understanding and education of Dimash's own fan community. There's such a distinct difference between these two calibers of youtube channels, easily discerned. Dimash's work deserves copyright police that can make that easy distinction, rather than just carpet bombing everything into oblivion.

И мы видим, что этот символ в искаженном виде, становится шевроном.Я об этом прочитала у одного очень глубокого, человека из Германии.

How can you not love such a wholesome artist with a beautiful heart and soul? Dimash’s song is so powerful and compelling… I’m still recovering… Dimash has found his calling as an artist: presenting his Kazakh culture to the world, but also spreading compassion, love, respect, and unity through his voice and music. One should strive for peace and understanding among different peoples, cultures, and religions so that there’s mutual respect in spite of our differences, hence the necessity of an open dialogue to solve conflicts instead of choosing war. I admire his strong conviction, courage, and beautiful soul. I hope that his powerful message of peace and unity will be heard all across the world. Being a Dear is an honor. Thank you so much Cedric for your genuine appreciation of Dimash! Heartbreakingly magnificent! Powerful portrayal! Brutally honest in showcasing how war rages against a life of peace in all regions of the world. This video brings one to the brink of despair yet shows that life endures and hope lives on from generation to generation! Profound performance by Dimash and all those who participated in the artistry of this production! The first lyrics are so telling "Can't believe what is happening at all PIPER'S crazy, we are bound to fall" seems to me to relate to a Pied Piper leading others astray! Showing his immense grief going to his home and finding his household, his daughter all dead. As he dies his son is born. You see the baby wearing the mother's sign of love and life and then he is shown grown into the very image of his father wearing the same necklace walking toward a dawning new light! My soul cried! Dimash is amazingly gifted and has an understanding of love and life beyond his years! You are so very observant and articulate in your reactions! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us!

I knew we could count on you ❤️ His whole performance in this both vocally and visually was both shocking and brilliant. I found myself in tears when he is screaming over the body of his dead daughter. Btw did you know that Dimash wrote the screenplay too? The Dimash at the end is his son, the baby born at the latter part of the MV, a new generation who will lead people to unity and a better tomorrow. We know this because of dialogue from the director and also because the casting call went out for actors to play Dimash's wife, daughter and son in the MV.

Greetings Cedric. great analysis as always. Here I leave you a bit of context, the final character is the son of Dimash born during the war and saved by several people who see him as a symbol of unity between peoples. He honored his dead father by trying to bring and unite all races, cultures and religions to a place where they can live together as brothers and in peace. The name "Piper" has two similar meanings: The first is a reference to the legend of the "Piper of Hamelin" who was tasked with hypnotizing the city's rats and drowning them in the sea. But the piper, without pay, hypnotized the entire population of the city and led them to death! It is therefore a seductive message that leads to death! The Other Meaning tells the true story of a World War II battle where crazy Canadian soldier Bill Millin, nicknamed "Mad Piper", played the bagpipes at the front, dressed in a "kilt", while his companions were killed. . ! The sound of the harmonica served to muffle the shots and motivate the comrades and became a symbol of the "madness of war". We are very grateful to God and destiny for the fact that such talented people as Dimash have come into our lives and are a great example of modesty, courtesy and respect, despite their great popularity! This is not even a clip, it is a whole film that was created throughout Dimash's creative activity, the meaning of which he wants to convey to each viewer and will be different for each one, but anyway, we all walk under the same sky. Greetings from Panama.

Cedric, it is always such a GIFT when you give us your brilliant, in depth, knowledgeable break downs of Dimash's works. I hope Dimash sees your reaction. (He would want you on his team). Thank you for all the work you did to bring us your reaction. It's as if Dimash gives a puzzle - and then people like you solve many of the pieces. Because of your training in filmmaking you see many details that most people don't catch. It's hard to believe that a 28 year old man could even conceive this short film - much less, bring it to life. Thanks again!

You can feel it, you can experience its pain, it is a heartbreaking moment, Dimash, in a plea full of sadness and emotion, mobilized all our hidden feelings....some may find it impossible to see....but to face fears first there is to recognize them, to look in the mirror, to be able to heal a wound in medicine you have to revive it, Dimash touched our soul where it hurts, exposed human miseries and of course it causes pain but sometimes it is necessary to feel the pain and express it to heal .. His message is one of love, his message is a great call for peace through tolerance and respect

Symbols: The piece that is hanging from the wire is a gnomon. It is a piece used in sundials and the sun passes through the circle producing a shadow that indicates the right path. Note that the friend did not put the necklace on his neck and when bending the gnomon, right at the beginning, he stopped pointing the right way and was no longer useful. Throughout the entire MV he has the piece but never wears the necklace. The gnomon is the key piece throughout the entire MV. It points the right way, the way of tolerance and peace that is used in the end in the character of hope that is the son of Dimash. The military man who is the friend who saved Dimash's character in the beginning is the crazy Piper. Based on a medieval legend he presented a solution to the problems. A village was full of mice and out of nowhere Piper appeared with a miracle solution to solve the villagers' problems. By destroying the mice, he made all the children in the village disappear. This part is important because we must not believe the propaganda of these people who say they will solve problems but then do more harm than good. The only way is union, tolerance for difference and believing that we can, together, follow the right path for all humanity.

Our Dimash is very vocal about the futility and human cost of war. Qazakstan only achieved independence 30 years ago, Dimash is only 28. He knows the history of his homeland and of current and past heroes of the conflict. He detests war and has stated that wars are always between two people not two nations. He has stated that he is 'only a singer' so all he can do is 'use his voice'. This is Dimash's humility and him using his voice. This was a project 3 years in the making on and off in-between commitments in many countries and his homeland not to mention his concerts of which there has been four in just this year alone. The emotion, heart and soul is real and I believe this was a way for him to vent his frustration at current world events. Director Alina Veripya is second to none in her field and portrayed everything magnificently.I believe she also directed ‘Okay’ for Dimash which was a great video. The Story of One Sky is an absolute mind blowing masterpiece and deserves unrivalled recognition from all corners of the earth. This makes you sad, cry and smile but leaves you questioning the direction we as a humans are travelling. Dimash promised something epic and that was a colossal understatement. He delivered as always. ❤💕

I was waiting for your reaction so much, cuz you as a filmmaker, screenwriter, actor can appreciate it even more than vocal coaches, music reactors...20 hour and I will see how Dimash blows your mind topping everything what you've seen before! And I'm hoping for an 1h long reaction at least, cuz there are so many things going on! So many details, layers, obvious & subtle symbolism....aaaa...it is not just eargasm, as his voice & music always is, but eyegasm but mindgasm, and touches & shakes hearts and souls.. .Dimash is a genius, an magician, nothing less.... He is the composer, screenwritee, lead actor, beside his out of this world singing...and he has a message... How can he be so insanely gifted, multitalented, intelligent, wise, loving kind, compassionate, selfless, spiritual, amazing human being? We knew this before, but still...he shows more & more from himself, and he said, we saw nothing yet ... He deserves Grammy, Nobel Peace Prize and everything! The whole world need to know him ( should know him and they need him without knowing it) Have you read the description under the video? His thoughts... Since you already watched the mv - fantastic masterpiece mini movie - , I recommend you to read the short article on dimashnews.com with the director words, talking about what they wanted to convey ( I think they did it excellently)

Hi Cedric :) So glad to see you :) I left a link + a translation for the growl words at the bottom of my very long comment, if you are curious :) The film is based on a story written by Dimash, with his own screenplay. (He worked on this piece for the last 3 years). The director Alina Veripya told about the creation of the music video for the new song : The clip is divided into several parts. The first one is about childhood. The main character and his 2 friends are connected by childhood stories and symbols of eternal friendship. One day the friend saves the Protagonist when he drowns. However, there is already competition in this children’s story, as the boys are in love with one girl, and she chooses one. The second experiences a kind of psychological breakdown and transfers the children’s problems into the adult world of totalitarianism and struggle. By becoming president, the Antagonist carries the idea of a saving war: “Only war will lead us to peace. Only the strongest can find love in their hearts. You must be strong enough to give the world freedom. A world where every city, every home is one. We will lead all who are ready to begin this new life. Anyone who resists has no place with us. I choose freedom. The world is open before me, and I want to give it to you. War for the people is the way to unity.” The main character also speaks of unity, of peace, but through the lens of kindness and love. While fighting, he is confused, he is in shock, but he has to save his family - his pregnant wife (the very girl from his childhood) and his daughter. Once home, he is horrified by the picture of the dead and realizes that his family is also dead. After surviving this drama, he moves on to the antagonist to seek revenge. However, the Protagonist’s wife survives with the help of people who know that she is the one who must give birth to a special boy who can save the world. These are people of different nationalities and faiths who have united for peace. A parallel line of pilgrims are people of different religions, walking the hard path to some place of power where they could unite and discover the Heavenly Eye that would illuminate the world. By uniting, they create a common energy in which the protagonist’s son is born, as Hope and Faith for the Better. Their journey is a symbol of faith in general, because it always goes through trials. When we go to the truth, we go through certain lessons and our way to God is difficult, but only possible if we come together. *This clip is not about war, it’s about peace. War here is a means of expressing the contrast of what happens when we lose love for one another. It is about the call to unite, to stop dividing each other along national, social, religious lines in order to preserve life, love, friendship, and the land for our children.* (source : dimashnews) "Dimash Qudaibergen’s 12-minute work is dedicated to the unity of people on our planet. We are all divided into races, nations and religions, but we are all children of one planet and live under one sky. Life is the highest value. No sacred book calls for the destruction of people. We must learn to be friends; it is impossible for a few adults to cause millions of children to suffer. The future of our planet, the future of people is in our hands, let there be peace in the world. We are children of one Home, one Earth and one Heaven." P.S. The pilgrims part is still in present day, not in ancient times. It speaks of the necessity of unity in service of Life, the highest value. The Protagonist dies, his daughter died as innocent casualty of war, (possibly his wife dies in childbirth ?), the Antagonist dies. The son (of the Protagonist and his wife) survives with the help of people of all faiths, and in the last frame, he goes on, together with the pilgrims of all faiths, on the path of Kindness, Hope and Faith for the Better. -------------- Dear Cedric, I was at the concert in Almaty, where Dimash performed this on stage (can`t describe how it was to be there), and I thought you might like a close-up fancam of it : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lciodL163s_Jl30.html (it`s the last third of the song, from the vocalise onward, till the stunning end ; you get to see his bewildered face at the end, and see all the heart he poured into this ; he also says a word to the crowd when he is done) -------------- Translation for the growl words he says while his character hugs his daughter that died : it`s in kazakh, and the words I believe they are : "Adam kerve omir şol" - "The life of Man (Adam) is like this" (behold the life of Man ; such is Man`s life ; full of pain ; this is what man is capable of, making his life full of pain, with no winners and losers ; everybody loses when love is gone and we turn to war) -------------- Completely besides the point - mentioning it just for technical cinematographic reasons : apparently the video was more expensive than Michael Jackson`s "Scream". Much more important is that Dimash actually performed the song The Story of One Sky for the very very first time at the Seventh Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which was held in Astana (Nur-Sultan) in mid-September. One of the listeners was Pope Francis, who later met with Dimash and presented him with a commemorative medal.

Dear Cedric, I was waiting for your reaction. Thank you so much for amazing insight. I think the scene of drowning (with the COSMIC screaming) means that Dimash's soul is coming back to life in the amniotic fluid of a Mother giving birth to Dimash's son and incarnation of Messiah in the same person. Means also that Dimash's battle for peace would be continued forever in His each incarnation: "We're choosing life!" This story, song and every piece of the film is epic. Dimash is a Genius!

Thanks for your Dante dialogue, Cedric. And the words of hope. Like a comforting balm. I think it has happened to all of us that at one point the pain is so desperate that we feel the need to take a breath. Dimash spared nothing, shouted everything, pierced our hearts. Because this is not a hypothetical story. It's the truth. It is happening today. Boy Piper and Boy Dimash represent those two countries that until yesterday were friends, brothers, and today they are confronted, with fire and tears... Thank you Cedric, we needed those words of hope. God bless us all with the lasting peace our world so badly needs.

Film, epic, wonderful, disconcerting, divine. "The characters are attached to symbols that are passed from generation to generation, through this symbol they are born, kill and die and are born again... always thinking that they will be different, but no". Symbols transcend human understanding, so they are carried by the winds of endless ages so that humanity never realizes its courage and realizes that its life has meaning and follows the path of necessary and urgent evolution. Global leaders, world owners use these symbols and the propaganda narrative to control people's minds, they will easily digest what is behind a symbol that perpetuates itself for generations. Some symbols serve to justify aggressions, invasions, wars, it is the way to unite them robotically and that they cannot think for themselves. When "They realize" that someone has left the cave and can take crowds with them, they create "imperfections in matter" to prevent the children of light, the dimensional ones, from doing the awakening work that would generate the "Revolution". "Piper" in the song, is a reference to the flutist of Hamelin, who with his flute attracts and hypnotizes mice to follow him and die, "Piper" is an analogy to his childhood friend who became the evil leader, who created a war destroying lives in search of a supposed "Union". In the end, Dimash when falling into the water screams "we choose life" it is a desperate cry of "There is no life in war, war is death". It is important and urgent that you get out of the cave, out of your private bubble and realize that you are being controlled by a strange and lying narrative and start to see and observe what is outside, get other information and think and make decisions for yourself. If you don't, you will be just another sheep that meekly walks to the slaughterhouse. Only a free and dimensional soul could open the veil that covers our eyes and courageously show and criticize on its platform this subjection to which humanity is trapped. History repeats itself as we can see in these symbols shown by Dimash in his epic and glorious film. Hug from Brasi. ...........

Cedric you might find this interesting. From Heiderose Kober Dimash Kudaibergen International Fan Club. Later, we see a version of the gnomon as the military insignia on the uniforms of the commander and his soldiers, but distorted and without the hole that allows light to shine through rendering it useless as a compass. When we lose the original intent of a symbol by twisting it into something it is not or by just paying lip service, it no longer has any spiritual meaning. At best it becomes a useless prop, at worst it is used to mislead and manipulate people. The burning sign "Waldenberg" is a reference to the end of WWII when the US Army destroyed the last of the resistance by the German Wehrmacht close to the end of the war in April 1945 in the part of Germany where I grew up. I have seen the aftermath of war as I was born a few years later when much of Germany was still in rubble. Waldenburg is only 28 miles from my hometown and was completely destroyed as you can see from the picture. Many of the dead in those bombed-out buildings were women and children. The good guys defeated evil but at what price? War is not the answer. We must find better ways to keep evil in check. iowaculture.gov/history/education/educator-resources/primary-source-sets/world-war-ii/american-troops-move-through The last movement is powerful: The cries over the loss of a beloved child and the cries of giving birth to new life are presented as a call-and-response grounded by a powerful Om chant that creates a sacred space, reminding us that death and birth are both sacraments and are interwoven in the tapestry of life. Dimash's vocalization and the pilgrims representing world religions and religious leaders, past and present, walking together shift the narrative toward the final conflict and finally redemption. When Dimash’s character decides to avenge the murder of his daughter, his state of consciousness is reflected in the darkening sky with lightning bolts of anger accompanying the storm of his emotions that buffets the pilgrims and hinder progress. Soul is breaking free to return to its natural state of love and purity as exemplified by the images of the children and the newborn baby.

You did well - despite the often interruptions... Here's the best and might possibly be the only true reading of Dimash's masterpiece by a German youtuber: This is subtitled “Requiem”, but it is also a vision and a call to action. Dimash is steeped in sacred music and has a deep understanding of the music teachings and symbolism of the major world religions as well as Kazakh shamanism. It is not by coincidence that the first performance of this work took place on September 14 at the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. The written statement at the end of the video is directly from the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together”, signed jointly on February 4, 2019, by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed el-Tayeb. Dimash met and spoke (and received a medal from Pope Francis for his contributions to the World of Peace) with both men at the September meeting. Everything Dimash does is intentional, and this piece has layers that would take a dissertation to unravel. 1 The pendant is an interesting element. It is a gnomon from a maritime compass sundial. This triangular blade is attached to the sundial, casting a shadow on the sundial, while the perforated pinhole projects the image of the sun onto the dial. It was used for both timekeeping and navigation, with the gnomon oriented to True North. In the Music Video, the child who later becomes the military commander never puts on the necklace. 2 Contemporary music is also present: with the phrase “We have passed the moment of Imagine”, Dimash reminds us that we are past the sentiments evoked by the song “Imagine” by John Lennon. It is time to stop dreaming about a world of peace and harmony. If we choose life, if we wish for peace, if we want a world without war for our children and grandchildren, we must act and take up the long hard path up the mountain towards the light. It is the only way. 3 The storyline is a very human one: we start as innocents until our hearts are broken, we fail, or our dreams are not realized. If in our pain and disappointment we turn to anger and blame instead of acceptance, power instead of love, greed and envy instead of generosity, hatred instead of forgiveness, and revenge instead of justice, we sow the seeds for conflicts that can turn into war. 4 The Piper’s Call is seductive as it promises redress for our grievances, control over our circumstances, and power over those who thwarted us, and this appeals to our wounded ego. However, let’s remember that the Piper is a symbolic figure of Death from the Middle Ages, often used as a metaphor for trusting and following charismatic but dangerous and malevolent leaders to certain death. Even if we resist, as the adult Dimash character does, we often employ the same methods and weaponry as the Piper, and thus those who fight back betray peace as well because peace cannot be won through violence. That is the dilemma of those of us who did not start the war, who do not support war, but are forced to respond in order to defend ourselves and those we love. How can we rid the world of evil without becoming what we fight against? 5 The burning sign “Waldenburg” is a reference to the end of WWII, when the US Army destroyed the last of the resistance by the German Wehrmacht to end the war in April of 1945. As a native Eastern European, I have seen the aftermath of the war as I was born just a few years later, when much of Europe was still in turmoil. Waldenburg, which is only 175 miles from Berlin, was completely destroyed. Many of the dead were women and children, because all men ages 15 through 75 were mobilized. So, the good guys defeated evil, but at what price? 6 The last movement is powerful: The cries over the loss of a beloved child and the cries of giving birth to new life are presented as a call-and-response grounded by a powerful Om chant that creates a sacred space, reminding us that death and life are both sacraments and are interwoven. Dimash’s vocalization and the pilgrims representing world religions and religious leaders, past and present, walking together shift the narrative toward the final conflict and finally redemption. When Dimash’s character decides to avenge the murder of his daughter, his state of consciousness is reflected in the darkening sky with lightning bolts of anger accompanying the storm of his emotions that struck the pilgrims sharply. The fog of war obscures the light. When he is killed after exacting retribution, he is dropped back into the “sacred womb” of Earth, the ocean of love and mercy and is cleansed of the old hatreds and grievances that only bring more death and suffering. He breaks the wheel of endless war by choosing life. Dimash’s scream “We’re choosing life” is that of giving life: the old earthly consciousness of an eye for an eye has to die to make way for a new spiritual consciousness that embraces all life. Soul is breaking free to return to its natural state of love and purity as examplified by the images of the children and the newborn baby. The blowing of the shofar signals God’s mercy for humankind when it turns from wrong to right. Reborn as a leader for peace and love, Dimash’s character becomes a guide for all of mankind on our shared journey up the mountain towards the light of God, however we may interpret or name the divine. We are all on the same path, even if our personal narratives, cultural heritage and spiritual orientations are very different from one another. By focusing on our common destination rather than on our differences, we can walk together in peace and love and mutual respect. Dimash is showing us how. Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology, wrote: “Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely. Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” This is what Dimash has done with this work: he has made the darkness conscious. We can only raise our individual and collective consciousness by bringing to light what needs to be healed in our lives and our world, and then we need to work together to restore wholeness to what is broken and bring about peace and unity, one step at a time...

Thanks for the great reaction! Dimash nurtured this idea for three years. But recent events have accelerated this process. Dimash is very deeply worried about the fact that two peoples close to him are destroying each other in a senseless and useless war. That is why he is so sincere in his suffering and pain in this clip.

Good to see you back and feeling better. I couldn't wait to hear your commentary, which was so wonderful. I was struck by so many subtle things aside from the dramatic moments. Dimash sings that we are beyond the aspirations of John Lennon's "Imagine". Being a hopeful flower child of the 60s and seeing what has happened since then I completely understand. He also sings of sharing love not "shares" (investments, money). As we grapple with a world where the oligarchy and plutocrats have so much influence over all governance this is indeed a throny problem, because those powerful people live in such privileged isolation that even when they think they are doing good it can be misguided. The scene with the leader, just before his death holding his childhood emblem that he has distorted into unifying through domination with tears in his eyes reminds me of Jean Valjean, who was certain that he was living a moraly correct life when he was confronted with the fallacy of his philosophy. This video has changed me as it has so many others, reflecting on personal responsibility and reconsidering engaging in divisive politics, understanding that our emotions are being manipulated by Master Pied Pipers. Dimash embodies Junian archtypes and shows us that we have within us the conflict of good and evil that informs all of our choices. By all means reflect and post afterthoughts. I really value your artistic insights and perspective.

The general saved his life when they were children, but when they grew up, the general went in a direction where he took the lives of thousands of people, including Dimash's character's daughter. Dimash's wife was expecting another child and to save that child and all the other children and people, he had to kill his childhood friend even though he knew he would also be killed. He needed to do what he could to stop the slaughter. "We're choosing life" is what he's screaming in the end and sometimes that choice requires self-sacrifice. And you can tell by the slight smile on his face at the end, before he turns to walk towards the light with all the others from different religions and cultures (Christians, Buddhists, Muslim, Jews) who also (presumably) made similar sacrifices, that he felt he made the right choice. Dimash composed the music and wrote the story. At his level of fame, he could easily sit back and say nothing but he's using his position to promote peace. At his recent concerts in Dubai and Prague, he spoke to the audience, obviously angry about the war in Ukraine although he didn't mention it specifically. He said "I love all nations, all people." and went on to say that we should be more like children because they are smarter - they don't kill each other. He ended by saying "I want a world without war." Then he sang "War and Peace", another song he wrote a few years back. Ironically, his best performance of this song was the one he did in Kyiv, Ukraine before an audience of Ukrainians and Russians. He has friends in both countries and I know the war is breaking his heart.

Beautiful analysis, thank you ❤️ There is such a lot to be said about this, but one thing I find fascinating is the theme of rebirth that he continues to explore. The baby can be the hero reborn, but also the dictator. What will he choose to be in this lifetime? I'm fascinated with how he ties it in with the Stranger myth. The traveller who finds a new land where he nonetheless has been before. During the Almaty performance of Stranger we saw a traveller (Olzhas) find his own instrument buried under the sands of time. And here we see a pilgrim (Dimash) being & remembering someone he has been before. It's breathtaking how he takes on the big themes of death & rebirth, free will, destiny. Look at how little drowning Dimash has the cord of his shorts resemble the umbilical cord. The depth of him, I just can't. Where will he take us next on his vision quest?

The name "Piper" has two similar meanings: The first is a reference to the legend of the "Piper of Hamelin" who had the task of hypnotizing the city's rats and drowning them in the sea. But the flutist, unpaid, hypnotized the entire population of the city and took them to their death! It is, therefore, a seductive message that leads to death! The other meaning tells the true story of a World War II battle where insane Canadian soldier Bill Millin, called "Mad Pipper", played bagpipes at the front, dressed in a "kilt", while his comrades were killed. ! The sound of the harmonica served to muffle the shots and motivate the companions and became a symbol of the "madness of war"!

Thank you for an excellent review and analysis of this wonderful short film. The General was his childhood friend. The woman having the baby was the young girl grown up who was also his wife. The child that was killed was his child. The shepard, at the end, was his baby grown up leading his peaceful cause. The live performance of this song can be found about 23 minutes into his Almaty concert part 3. The live performance is the most moving performance that I have ever seen from a vocal artist. Bring tissues...you will be crying.

I was looking forward to your reaction to this particular MV, as not many reactors delve deeper in the meanings behind Dimash's songs. What fascinated me the most is the ending as it generates a lot of conclusions depending on who the person watching is, his culture or religion. For example: the 1st thing that came to mind after seeing it is, all those people are those who are victims of war and that's their after life. 2nd explanation was maybe he got reincarnated and led people to unite and be peaceful. But then I remembered his Dimash's religion and I crossed off those options. Which brought me next to think that could be his son that was born the moment he died and continued his father's legacy of bringing peace to people (a conclusion that I made after watching and connecting the scenes many times). Those are my thoughts and of course I saw many people have other beliefs on what that ending meant. Regardless, it's all the same in the end, the character of Dimash leading people to peace, perhaps.
