Please join me in this video, From Classic Cinema to TVs Gideons Way - John Gregson.
We take flowers to the famous grave of John Gregson this wonderful vintage actor and look at his astonishing career.
Harold Thomas Gregson is better known by his stage name John Gregson, he was an English theatre, television, and film actor who appeared in over 40 films and was particularly noted for his roles in crime dramas and comedies.
John Gregson starred in the popular 1953 British Classic Genevieve with Kenneth More, Dinah Sheridan, and Kay Kendall and also worked with Diana Dors and all the major names in the business!
John Gregson's film career declined in the 1960s as the type of film and character he was known to play became outdated but he soon found fame in the television police drama Gideon's Way.

It’s quite rare to find a video which can keep the viewer interested all the way through. And far more rare is to find ALL the presentations from this fine channel of the same high standard. I’m certain that many will agree that the narration is perfect.

John Gregson was a great actor and Genevieve was a fabulous film. All the actors just seemed to work so well together Dinah Sheridan, Kenneth More, and kay Kendall. It was as though they all really enjoyed themselves making the film, all have sadly passed now. Talking pictures TV often show Genevieve so if you have not seen it I would highly reommend it!

Hi this is great I also visited John Gregsons grave after asking his Son .also named John Gregson he runs the John Gregson website in brackets (Actor). He does photos of his dad John Gregson if you would like 1 or 2. I spoke to his son on Web page and asked if i could lay flowers there and he said absolutely. I left flowers with a little message saying how i loved their Dads films also I left my phone number incase family wanted to see who this stranger was . It was close to his 50th anniversary of the Day he passed . Anyway a few weeks later I received a call from his eldest daughter Kathy who was absolutely lovely and enquired what films I liked ,I asked who his friends were that he could relax with and one was Ian Hendry actor.who lived on Pharaohs Island around the corner from John's Creek house .Kathy also said after each film Daddy brought them presents as he missed them so much .One film that Kathy loved her father in so much was Genevieve.and named her daughter the Same. Hope any fans like this .have a great day loved the video. I also stayed in the hotel by the King's Head Shepperton a famous pub .

Genevieve is a classic film that featured Kay Kendal who died at an early age and is interred in a graveyard located at Hampstead, London. I remember watching the original series of Gideon’s Way from the early 1960’s and John Gregson was the lead. A favourite actor of mine from those early days. @@BeautifulBadandBizarre I saw the piece you mentioned on TP television celebrating what would have been John Gregson’s 100th Birthday. His wife mentioned that they married at a Catholic Church in Kilburn (she could not remember it’s name) but that would have been The Sacred Heart Church in Quex Road. North West London is my stomping ground! I guess you already know Kay Kendal was married to Rex Harrison and the terminal nature of her illness was kept from her. Afternoon Shar, its a warm sunny day, just right for nostalgia and a stroll down memory lane 😊 and no better companion than John Gregson. For me he was truly the actor's actor 😊 The body of work he left us,bearing in mind how terribly young he was,is nothing short of miraculous 😊From the delightful Genevieve ( close run with Kenneth Moore ❤😊) On the bridge of a Royal Navy Warship 😮so stiff upper lipped 😊 The little pot boiler " Train of Events" just a company player. He gave each part all the writers and directors wanted. And in some cases more.I've not seen Value for Money, but will seek it out😊As for the TV's Gideon's Way he matched up very well against Jack Hawkins from the movies. But to be fair to Mr Hawkins, John had more time to flesh out the roll😊 Speaking of which, I'm oft to make a nice crusty ham filled one & a small glass of crisp white wine. And to you Shar,I'll raise my glass with the toast. Thank you and carry on 😅😅😊❤❤ as ever Allan&Family

'Genevieve' is a movie I'll never forget... starring 'John Gregson' and also Dinah Sheridan, Kenneth More & Kay Kendal. Featuring a couple of veteran cars and the above actors during their London to Brighton shenanigans. The movie an end of year / term treat for kids at the Jo'burg primary school my late brother and I attended around 1970. It was shown on 16mm format in our school hall. In the movie, at some or other club, Kay Kendal's character gets tiddly and demands... "I wanna play the plumpet!" Then astonishes everyone with a solo performance (mimed I guess?) To a couple of boys, this punch-line was uttered over & over, ad naseum, accompanied by our raucous laughter. As it turned out, this was the very last movie, as brothers we saw together.

I have recently been watching the old episodes of Gideon's Way which don't quite remember only being a small child when it was made in the mid 1960's. I like Gregson because his film and television characters typically seemed very grounded, restrained and natural. I didn't know he had died so young (i.e. younger than me!) I viewed 'Scott of the Antarctic' yesterday evening and it was a reminder of how easily he always seemed to be able to blend in with other actors without the desire to upstage any of them. You are right that many of his films have dated quite badly, but of course that's no reflection on his acting ability but more because our values, particularly in Britain, have changed so much. Also, I feel in many cases that's a large part of their nostalgic charm. I am also a big admirer of Glynis Johns and having vintage Diana Dors in the same film makes it compulsory viewing for me.

I've conducted family history research for decades and relish tracing lost family links and uncovering the records to confirm them, I'm pretty good at it (even if I say so myself), but most of your research on the subjects you cover is absolutely TOP flight stuff. I'm fascinated with British stars of the post war period, so to find them exhaustively researched, and then to see respects paid, and flowers laid on their graves is manna for my hungry mind. BUT the youngest child, a 3 year old simply disappeared from the records, after failing to find any reference to her in the marriage, death, and local electoral registers I assumed that either there was a gap in the records, or that she had been informally adopted by a friend or neighbour and had her name changed.... one last roll of the dice that occured to me was to check the 1911 census records for the local orphanages in Liverpool, and incredibly I found the now 11 year old little girl as an "inmate", her DoB matched exactly, and from there on I then reconstructed her descending tree and traced the current generation within Liverpool, took a chance and contacted them, and guess what? They weren't in the slightest bit interested in their family history.... Hahaha You can't win them all... but the feeling of reuniting the 7 lines of children (on paper at least) was such a fulfilling moment.

My all time favourite film and also my daughter's is ,' Hobson Choice.' The acting from Brenda de Banzie Charles Laughton and John Mills was outstanding but de Banzie had the edge on them in my opinion. My other most treasured film is ,'The Quite Man', with John Wayne and Maureen 'O'Hara. A lot of the movie was shot in Co Galway and in 2011 Ms O'Hara came to Cong village to celebrate the films 60th anniversary. She stayed in Ashford Castle and as luck would have it my husband and I booked in to Ashford for that weekends festivities. I had the great fortune to meet Ms O'Hara and she signed her book ,'Tis Herself 'for me which I treasure. Beautiful Bad and Bizarre do you ever review Irish actors?

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! I'm thrilled to hear about your love for 'Hobson's Choice' and 'The Quiet Man'-both absolute classics with stellar performances. Meeting Maureen O'Hara must have been an unforgettable experience! She was one of my favourite actresses - I particularly love her in Jamaica Inn (I'm a huge fan of Daphne Du Maurier too) Maureen was so beautiful! I'd be absolutely delighted to featured more Irish entertainers - I've every intention of visiting Ireland at some point (my great-grandmother was Irish!) it's just about planning a trip if their resting place is in Ireland. Thanks again for your support and sharing your delightful experiences xxxx

Thank you for an interesting, and respectful video.🎥 “Genevieve” was my parents favourite film 🎞 I watched “Genevieve” many years later, and it is a lovely gentle comedy 🎭 John Gregson also starred in the Ealing Comedy “The Titfield Thunderbolt.” Another film my Father enjoyed, as it was about Steam 🚂 Trains.

@@BeautifulBadandBizarre Thank you for your reply🙂 I have watched many old 🎥 films over the years. Here are some of my favourites: “Brief Encounter,” “The Third Man,” “The Quiet Man,” with its glorious Irish ☘️ Scenery. The only John Wayne film I have actually watched!! The fight scene is a bit silly, but the beauty of modern technology is you can fast forward!! I have also seen “Strawberry Roan,” a film 🎞 my father enjoyed seeing at the cinema in 19....! It is an interesting film about a farming community in Southern England. It’s a bit sad towards the end. A more modern film, with an old fashioned feel, is Ladies in Lavender.” Starring Judi Dench and Maggie Smith. Again, a bit sad towards the end, but you can’t go wrong with these two actresses. 🎭👩
