On behalf of all LS430 owners, THANK YOU! This young man did his homework on what is arguably the best Lexus ever made. The secret is out, this is a GREAT and reliable car that’s still better than any new Camry or Accord you can buy, even greater than its successor, the LS460. Well done TFL, you’ve won my viewership!

Hold onto your LS430 - there’ll never be another one like it. Over 250k miles and still going strong - amazing. As I said in another comment, I wish Lexus would have just updated this model with newer tech and more efficient drivetrain components when they were creating the LS500 we have today. But they didn’t - they took their eye off the ball. And that makes me sad.

Wonderful ride and handling. I’ve also owned a VW Phaeton and Audi A8. Both fun to drive and sickening to deal with when they break. LS fun to drive too but you’re not going to have the excitement of wondering where it’s gonna break. You get to your destination. Every time. Main function of any car.

This is a cool car. The whole “grandma car” and “not cool Gray Lexus” I hate when reviewers make silly statements like this. This is an incredible vehicle. A lot of young people are buying these now that they are cheaper. This car actually did beat the S class and everything in its class back when this was on sale. Had one of these for many years. White with the "peanut butter" saddle interior. Let's be honest here... It was a very boring car, but it was meant to be boring and extremely luxuriously smooth. For an early 2000s car, it had soft closing doors, oscillating vents, dynamic cruise control and cool vented seats. Those options are for $200k cars even now lol. I think I would still have it if someone didn't T-bone her. Could've easily gone 500k miles.

I attended a General Motors sponsored multiple car testing event held in a football stadium parking lot, 1990 something. One surprise was a Cadillac with one of their smaller 6 cylinders + a manual transmission. Surprisingly well mannered and enjoyable on a tight obstacle course. A BMW 5 which handled well but downshifted when I didn't want it. Corvette, what can you say? But I was surprised by the LS400 - excellent handling, good power, comfort, no surprises. The LS430 is one of best car ever made. They are not boring, The 4.3 engine is good enough to be used in planes..!! The quality is amazing. I have one and really enjoy it..

Awesome review indeed! I own a 2006 ls430 and its not as bad in the snow as you might think due to the weight of the vehicle. I live in Minnesota and it gets cold ! I have a second set of wheels/ tires -Michelin cross climate 2 and they are awesome in snow/ice.

Transmission failures on these are mostly from lack of maintenance. In 2004 they switched to the 6sp sealed unit. In other parts of the world, they had a 60k miles service recommendation. In the US they just said it was lifetime fluid. That was common practice at the time to make maintenance cost appear lower.

The dealer service replaced 1/3 of our transmission fluid every so many miles. If you did that, you were fine. My 430 was rock solid at 160K miles and I replaced it with a 460.

@@texlad04 how are you liking the 460, compared to the 430?
@texlad04
@texlad04 2 жыл бұрын
@@takenpictures mixed bag. The Sport Edition (not F sport - the first of the sporty attempts) is good as a package but not great. The sport tuned air suspension has somewhat aggressive damping from the perspective of poorly maintained urban roads and vibrations do travel through the chassis. On the highway however it's great. But the problem really is the chassis doesn't support the tuning of the suspension. The better buy in the 2007 to 2012 model is the standard car. Even then, it's more complex and has way more known problems. The self-making gasket material fails and must be replaced. The suspension is more complex and the front bushings fail. The brake system and fuel system are prone to needing work as the car ages. I had all of that done. Even the standard car (without air or sport air) doesn't ride as luxuriously as the 430. I live with horrible urban roads and this reminds me that we're often putting lipstick on a pig when fitting sport anything to a car like this. Whereas the 460 has EPS, and it's extremely vague and dead on center, the 430 is old school and requires fewer turns and has a tighter turning circle. While the powertrain in the 460 is clearly superior and gives you a much better driving experience, there's plenty of torque in the 4.3 L engine which honestly is what really matters with a car the size and weight. Speaking of weight, the 460 also weighs more by a good measure so it's still doesn't exactly feel nimble even if it feels quicker. The eight speed transmission also tends to hunt quite a bit more under certain conditions although on the highway it is excellent especially for downshift speed. Keep in mind that I have a special sport version of the eight speed which came from the IS F of the same generation, but the regular transmission is more than adequate. I am a big guy and I like big luxury cars so I think going forward I am going to be looking at all the completion. I would consider getting the second generation of the 460 if I got the right options and price but I probably would not go to the 500 in part because it's much more cramped inside. Just don't expect the same level of reliability from the 460 models as you would have with the 430.

I have made the ES my choice over the years. I look for one with about 160,000 km. (100,000 mi.) then check the glove box for the owners manual. If every service has been stamped by a Lexus dealer, I am confident the unit is as good as new. Old people remember the day when a car was pretty much used up at 100k, so they trade it in. I buy a very reliable used car for the price of a new econobox, drive it for at least twice as far as that econobox would have survived, and sell it very cheap to someone who will use it for a few more years.
