I have this memory of the earlier Type S marketing from Acura stating the car would be "over 400 horsepower", but if that was true, I can't find evidence of it now (it may have been youtuber speculation). But I'm still disappointed the car doesn't already come with 400hp. I was genuinely hoping for something that would compare well to a Lexus RC F (or GS F) with its 477hp (comparing well doesn't mean beating it, just in the ballpark). Instead, it seems Acura had their sights set firmly on a lower target. It's a very good looking car, and will likely sell pretty well for Acura. I'd love to see a jazzed up version too, with both an HP and a cosmetic upgrade of some sort (spoiler and diffuser, that kind of thing). They could make something that appeals to wealthier buyers who like the car and would like it to look more sporty (as opposed to classy). Shrug. Disclaimer: I own an Acura, but it has significantly more horsepower than this.

And I have my doubts that automatics are even as superior as they are claimed to be. I mean, the whole thing about better MPG from automatics doesn’t necessarily bear out in real world driving. I feel like, to a large degree, automakers don’t want to make manual cars because most people don’t want them. They then have to exaggerate the advantages of them in order to placate stick shift aficionados.

@@E82N55 apparently not. The testers at the press event weren't made aware that the car has an official launch control, even reporting that it didn't have launch control, so they all just did their best with the brake pedal and throttle. The Type-S launch control system likely improves the transmission logic on launch, and in fact uses the twin scroll turbo to increase then maximize boost pressure specifically at launch rpm. Then, I doubt anyone attempted to launch the car using the parking brake, a classic method known to improve numbers. It just hasn't been tested nearly thoroughly enough to claim the acceleration is underwhelming.

Considering coming back to the brand now and trying to figure out why I would purchase this instead of an IS500 or CT4VBW. I am disappointed by the lack of technical depth in this video, there are barely 2.5min (2:40-5:10) of real meat, everything else is fluffy marketing artsy-speak. The 3.0 liter Type S Turbo V6 engine is a double overhead camshaft engine which be exclusively marketed under the Acura brand. This is a big change because of the Acura V6 engines were of the J-series single overhead camshaft V6 engines which have been used since the mid 1990's. This is a production-based 3.0 Liter V6 turbocharged engine and it should be interesting to see if Honda Performance Development can use this engine in the 24 hours of Le Mans and World Endurance Championship as the Honda HR28TT twin turbocharged V6 and Honda HR35TT twin turbocharged V6. The Acura NSX has 3.5 liter twin turbocharged double overhead camshaft V6. I'm looking forward to see the what the Honda tuners have in store for this V6 engine.

@@omairsh8 Hey - Clearly I was talking about the implementation of VCM which had MANY problems on Honda's prior models including causing ring fouling / sticking, leading to spark plug fouling, misfires, catalytic converter failure, and led to countless rebuilds. Honda even got sued over it because it was such a disaster. That doesn't even include all the NVH issues, which as the mounts broke in just kept getting worse. Yes, I hated my car with 5k miles and Honda could only say "that's how it's supposed to run". Sadly that was how it was supposed to run with VCM. I'm sure the new engine is more powerful and responsive but if it's as remotely bad as what they did to the J35Z4 then it's a hard no from me.
