A production of my stills stitched together. I was stationed on the island during all of 1981 and it was just about the best time I had on shore while in the Navy.
It took a loooong time to scan and clean up the 105 negatives, slides and self-developed black and white 35mm images used in the video, the images were set to "Leave Thing Alone" by Rush.
KZfaq pulled the vid citing copyright infringement on the music, which totally sucked. All the "illegal" Rush concert videos out there and they pull MY audio?
KZfaqs audioswap choices were not to my liking, so here it is silent as I'm NOT going to redo it!.

CanonMan; that Rush tune in the background was sick. What a great instrumental to use for a nostalgia piece on Adak - the musicianship is unique. Thanks for sharing your photos!

My husband & I lived on Adak for 3.5 years in the 80's, he was MAUW I was in the Post Office NAS. I now it's not the same now but I would still move back to live my life out to it's end. Man I love this place.

Starioned there im 68-69..Supply rotable pool, ordering & picking up parts for the P -3s. There was a P -2 there that they would start once a month. sounded cool, but really smoked. Had a good time , but glad to leave!

Amazing place! my first duty station was there, 1987-1988. So sad how desolate and abandoned it has become. it was the most beautiful place! I worked at the Transmitter Site on Mt. Moffett. Thanks for sharing your pictures and memories.

Thanks for this vid! I was there '73-'74. Clam Lagoon was almost as quiet as this! If you didn't like the weather...just wait ten minutes and it would drastically change! The 'Gun is gone now.

73 - 74 worked at publics work center work center 20 also at the horse stables , took part in remodeling of the Bayview club , SPENT a lot of time at the Tundra Tavern , siempre fi.

I was there from January 1983 to June of 1984. I was just out of Navy boot camp, and the Naval Air Station there was my first duty station. I was almost 18 (I had parental permission to enlist at 17) and Adak wasn't exactly a glamorous place for a young girl lol. I have fond memories of it now 30 years later, and it saddened me to know the NAS was closed.

The cabin was one of the places where everyone let down their hair - I was the one who caught that huge halibut and owned the party cabin. -Tom M.

I was there 5/81 - 8/82 as the Asst Ops Officer at the NavSta. I got married there, to Navy Broadcaster Tacey Olson, in Oct 1981. As the Asst Ops guy, I ran the MAC Terminal and the Fire Department. Were you there when the Marine suicided at NSGA? There were a couple of NSGA female officers that got into dire straits over being lesbians while Tace and I was there. Our last night there, we had an earthquake. Reeves Aleutian Airways was the civilian line there... Great memories! Thanks for this...

Mr. Garrett, can you remember who was drinking the Jack Daniel's bottle, maybe Valerie Huegel ? was there from early 1980-1982...... best of times. I lived on Dolphin Way if I remember right. under the XO'S house. ours isn't there now. looks like it was demo'ed. Thank you SO much for the trip down memory lane !!

canonman1 - great photos. i was there in 82-83. best tour of duty in my navy years. i was a CTT stationed at NSGA. Lived in C dorm room 222. I remember that Volks too! must have seen her on the island driving around. great memories...there's a couple of your photos i'd love to have copies of, is that something that would be possible? i'm willing to buy them from you. i don't have as many photos of the place as i would like, have more memories in my mind than anything...it was a great place.
