Adam Driver Tries on a Bomb Suit in Kuwait (Extra Scene from 'Arts in the Armed Forces')

Marine-turned-actor Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Girls) is the founder of Arts in the Armed Forces (AITAF), a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing thought-provoking and impactful contemporary theater to American military personnel. VICE News followed Driver and his fellow actors (including Joanne Tucker, Natasha Lyonne, Gibson Frazier, Saidah Ekulona and many more) on their first trip to the Middle East, where they struggled to broaden the offerings of on-base entertainment beyond country-western cover bands and the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.
In this extra scene, Driver meets the explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait and finds out what it’s like to get suited up in one of the “bomb suits” used by the US military in 114-degree heat.

This is a guy who very well might have stayed in the Marine Corps if he hadn't been injured and medically discharged, and chose to make supporting service members a personal pursuit...what a fucking awesome dude. There are plenty of actors that support the armed forces through USO and stuff like that, but Adam is just that little bit more genuine. I can see him being on the level of Gary Sinise throughout his career.

Black IsMyColor Mountain bike accident of duty, not combat related. You can find somewhere online, he has said, the biggest regret he has ever had in his life is not being deployed to Iraq with his unit.

I totally agree with you. He said he was disappointed not to have deployed with his unit right after he was injured. He seems like a very genuine, humble man who is trying to do what he can for our troops. God bless him.

For real! It's funny how my anxiety creeps out in dumb ways when I'm back home. But when I spent nine months at Camp AJ it felt blissful most of the time. The routine of it all and having brothers and sisters who you knew had your back. And the work we did together was amazing. I respect some of the celebrities and artists that came all the way over. That Kuwait heat ain't no joke! I respect this man for going out an doing this. Marine or Army it doesn't matter they all wear the flag on their shoulders.

In theatre, as long as it isn't any crazy face paint or design, everyone does their own hair and makeup. So you probably get pretty good at doing your hair the way you like it if you been in stage plays as often as Adam has.

I highly recommend everyone watches the full AITAF documentary. It sheds a lot of light on what Adam and Joanne are accomplishing, and it's such a sincere and positive cause. Plus, apart from on the big screen, i've never seen Adam as relaxed and in his element as he is in that documentary. Please watch, it's a treat!

How is he not even sweaty? My husband is a Marine Vet and that just made me really proud. I believe Adam Driver was at Camp Pendleton, my husband was at Camp Legune. Marine basic, from what I understand is almost superhuman to endure. Seriously 90 extra lbs in the Kuwaiti desert and didnt break a sweat!

A bit of back story...there's apparently a tradition in the EOD community that if you are seen on TV and your name is said, you have to buy everyone who sees it a drink. That's why a couple of guys were trying to avoid camera.
