HOW TO Fix Lawn Mowers Playlist: bit.ly/2oYau9g
Step by step guide to perfectly fix a mower by cleaning out the carburetor. Covers both Briggs & Stratton and Tecumseh carbs. Guidelines here can be used on most float style carbs. For best performance use carburetor cleaner, WD40 lubricant, and compressed air. Replace the black rubber float bowl gasket surrounding the carburetor as deemed necessary (mostly applies to Tecumseh).

The assembly of the lawn mower could be done without any problems kzfaq.infoUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend I just puzzled something about the red strange “key”. However, it quickly turned out that this creates a kind of contact bridge between battery packs and lawn mowers. An additional backup as a father of a 1 year old nephew is great!! :-)

Your step by step for taking the carburetor apart, cleaning it and putting it back was one of the best on you tube I've seen. Cleaned the jets with the wire from the bread tie, blew it with some compressed canned air, rinsed in some clean gas , assembled it back and it started on the first pull. Thanks for the video

Adam, this video was AWESOME. I have a Yard Machine String Trimmer that has not ran in more than 2 years. I followed your instruction in this video and my trimmer started on the very first pull. I was about to take it to the repair shop which would have cost me atleast $80.00 - $100.00 to repair, with your help I repaired it without spending one cent. I already had all the items you mentioned in you video. AWESOME!!! Keep post GREAT video like this

If one can soak the carburetor for several days in a submerged container of gasoline ( make sure the gasoline completely covers carburetor ) it always seems to do better for me in the past and a much easier process when cleaning it . Worked on an old Honda carburetor and it just wouldn't run right after I had cleaned it out once already . I soaked it for three days and blowed it our one final time and it must have loosened up something - for it started running perfect . Food for thought - when all else fails .

Thanks for saving me a chunk of change. I'm not a mechanic and was somewhat intimidated about taking apart the carb on my ready-start pressure washer that wouldn't start. Cleaned it per your instructions, and put it back on. It started right up on the first pull. Incidentally, I thought I lost the rubber needle seat; I just want other viewers to know that some seats are brass.

Thanks for the vid. I have a Simplicity tractor that I bought new ten years ago and used it one summer. Then I sent it to my dad's place and he never used it....so it has been parked for nine years in the garage. Just got it back and finally got it to turn over....however, it will run for 5 seconds then shut off. My guess is I need to clean the carb. He did empty the fuel...but I'm sure it's pretty dan gummed up.

Thank you for this video, I didn't even think to clean the bolt that holds on the cup - it was the culprit!
@exinanition2307
@exinanition2307 6 жыл бұрын
That bolt holding on the cup on most small engine carburetors is the main jet. The tube which Mr. Pennington referred to as the jet is the emulsion tube. It is important also to remove any gaskets (especially rubber ones) because the carburetor cleaner will distort and misshape them causing them not to seal correctly.

you actually can spray down in the seat if there is varnish but make sure u rinse it out right away with a penetrating lubricant like wd40 or pb blaster because it will swell up. even the bowl gaskets if you get it on them it will swell up in fact I already did before and I winded up with a bowl gasket about a half inch too wide in diameter haha nice demonstration people should learn this alot of mowers and others things get throwbout because of this reason and they are often fairly new mowers
@AdamPenningtonadamcpennington
@AdamPenningtonadamcpennington 10 жыл бұрын
true true. Lately I've found it easier to stay away from the seat altogether. That is unless it's already swollen making the float sit at a higher angle, or varnish is present. In both cases it's good idea to replace the seat.

I learned that old carbs on lawnmowers didn't have brass jets and instead used adjustable valve screws so when the lawnmower ran weak or surged you simply just opened-up the screw hole. Thanks to the EPA for making everyone's life difficult.

I know this is a old Post but hoping I can get some help. The only way my Briggs will start is if I squirt carb cleaner into the intake side. It will fire up then literally die. I found there was no gas in the bowl even when gas turned on. Luckily that part was a simple fix but it still won't start. Any ideas?
@AdamPenningtonadamcpennington
@AdamPenningtonadamcpennington 6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a straight forward carburetor issue. If you've thoroughly cleaned the carburetor as the video depicts, replaced the bowl gasket, mounted it correctly and snug, and there is now actually fuel in the bowl- It might be time for a new or used replacement. Having been through hundreds, some carbs go beyond reasonable repair. Cheers!
@Ottee2
@Ottee2 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, Adam, glad to see you're still helping people on this video. I've taken the carburetor off of my B&S lawnmower engine three times now, to clean it. I was getting surging, difficulty starting, and sometimes engine dying issues. I'm using carb cleaner, and this last time I used welder's tip cleaners to really get into those tiny holes. I've also cleaned the fuel tank, which was filthy, and I replaced the fuel line and added an inline filter. Additionally, I've replaced the float bowl gasket, the air cleaner housing gasket, and the primer bulb. These cleanings have always helped for a little while, but then the engine goes back to its old malfunctioning ways. I'm thinking my next corrective action might be to replace the rubber seat that the needle sits on. That's about the only thing that I haven't replaced, so far. What do you think? Could that be causing the issue?
