If your want to have more acceleration on your forehand then you should do this toe position. If you change your toe position when hitting an open stance forehand it can add more power and acceleration without having to change your swing.

Hi Kevin You are not wrong The problem I see repeatedly is that 90% of most players cannot focus on their feet position & orientation AND still track the ball well and time and maintain a good swing. The student will typically be adamant they are doing what you explained and demonstrated to them and then repeatedly fail to mimic what you requested they do, even when they agree its better for them and they do get a better result this way. Good players like yourself Kevin, take it for-granted that you know pretty well what you feet are doing without it costing you much mental effort to do so. In my experience your footwork is the exception, not the rule.
@dioscurity
@dioscurity Жыл бұрын
Yes true but this is why we isolate the footwork for a few min no ball involved and eventually muscle memory takes hold
@Whisper555
@Whisper555 Жыл бұрын
@@dioscurity In a perfect world you should be correct. In reality most people do not have the underlying foot function to build good muscle memory.

Hi Kevin, awesome channel! Question re: this video at 05:10, what grip are you using?
@NamesAreRandom
@NamesAreRandom 2 жыл бұрын
I think the point of the motion is to rotate your hips until they face the direction the ball needs to go (by pushing foward with your legs in that direction). They then need to stop to transfer power to the arm. If they don't go far enough you or if they go to far you can't hit in front properly. You can try this out by planting your off leg on the ground and having your racket leg on your toes then pick the foot angle that allows your hips face forward but no further.

Excellent tip, Kevin! How do we create upper/lower body seperation on a neutral stance ? Or is it that the main power source on the neutral comes from shifting body weight from rear to front moving into the ball?

i know this toe footwork works because i used them when i was learning tennis, but i sprained my ankle twice because of it, so i had to train with my toes pointing my inertia. any suggestions to fix this footwork, or another way to generate power? obviously, if there isnt much running, i would still use the toe footwork.
@Whisper555
@Whisper555 2 жыл бұрын
You need to work on your foot function, ankle mobility, stability & strength. I would bet money you cannot move the little toes of your feet or spread your toes far apart easily. The same muscles and nerves that control your small toes also assist in maintaining lateral stability. By the time your feet send a signal to your brain that you are going to fall over, you are pretty much close to spraining your ankle. When that happens often enough you almost inevitably will, especially when competing hard.
@TotalTennisDomination

You can still pivot on the balls of your feet to help the hips rotate. Thanks
@mariodorado2680

Great lesson! Shouldn’t the right foot (curled toes,) for right handers, be slightly behind the left foot when you “load,” in the open stance? That way you can transfer your body weight forward as you swing, in other words “land” on the left foot, not backwards, if your right foot is slightly forward, as you demonstrated repeatedly on this video.
@Whisper555
@Whisper555 2 жыл бұрын
Kevin is talking about a full open stance There are many stances and footwork patterns that can be used, and they all have a place for a well rounded player
@mariodorado2680
@mariodorado2680 2 жыл бұрын
@@Whisper555, I see what you’re saying, that’s if the loading foot is slightly in front, you explode, and then land but not before the “landing” foot hops forward a bit

No doubt this adds power to the forehand. If one has a choice by getting to the FH and set up from the open stance and hit the ball by pivoting on the left foot and landing on the right foot, which is more efficient and or powerful?
@Whisper555
@Whisper555 2 жыл бұрын
It depends What ball are you receiving? How much time do you have? Where will you be making contact? What is your intended target? Neutral to semi-open is typically taught at the beginning as these footwork swing positions then translate into many other options. Open stance has its place, but there is a very good reason why full open stance down the line forehands are so prominent in highlight reels of professional tennis, and it is not because any idiot can do it.
