This really opened my eyes to the importance of pronation in tennis in general. When I had seen some of my friends spike, I just always assumed they were able to generate so much force because of arm talent/strength alone. Now I realize that pronation generates a lot of the power on spikes and serves. Undisputedly the greatest tennis teaching channel on KZfaq.

Ok, your explanation of “Finish him!!” - wow!! This one thing has literally took my serve from a “basic nothing special serve” to a “serve that pops!”. I now get an ace almost in every set! A massive change to the level where I am (recreational club) A huge thank you! You are the best!

I've been a recreational player for 1 year and half. I really tried to learn to serve the right way but struggled since August last year. Your explanation of pronation and the kinetic chain from leg to hand improved my serve in the most significant way. The right serve motion is now clear to me. Now is just practice. Hats off to you!

As usual, great lesson. And you are so right about "serve + 1". I want so much to improve my serve that I get caught up watching my serve when it's good and I am stunned when it's coming back. Sometimes I'm even pissed off. Bad habit! :( So many things to think about when we play tennis. One of the most cerebral sport out there.

Super video... thank you!! On 11:39 didnt saw raquet look from you right side.. more like it covered the ball vertical like to take it down.. may be cause it was fast i couldnt see... I also have a good serve like yours but what makes me feel trouble more often is the toss and the height of ball...

Amazing video. Your pronation drill has already helped my serve a ton. I’ve been having trouble implementing the “back and down” technique though. 1) my knees bend a little late for some reason. I have no problem bending my knees or bending them deep but my knee bend lags behind my toss for some reason; adding a pause/hitch to my motion 2) it’s hard for me to rotate to my back leg because I’ve got some hip and low back stiffness. Do you have any exercises or stretches I can do to work on these muscles? Thanks!

I thought you said, after you hit the ball. You twist the racket, and when you drop it, go to your right side, cause your handed. But in your demo, racket down to your left side.

The 60-40 loading of the back leg is worth exploring. Right now, it feels about 50-50 at trophy position with heels off the ground (platform stance), and then of course weight shifts to front leg. I am thinking this 60-40 loading of the back leg will occur just slightly before the trophy position, perhaps in the instant just before the heels lift off the ground i.e. while the back leg is still flat-footed?
@AndreS-of4gp
@AndreS-of4gp 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, very good video. But can you also show your idea about loading your backleg, and 60/40. Pin point stance or traditional platform stance for maximum effect? And what distance between feet is your recommendation? When I try to serve a "Roddick Servce" I've come to the conclusion that a tighter distance between feet is optimal for a lot of power, but with the original backswing you've got (looks like Federer) I'm not sure about the stance. Cheers André Sweden :)

Should I try to sync up shoulder pronation with the hip rotation so that body weight contributes to a heavier impact ...or maybe hips go first followed by the kenetic chain of the upper body ??

With all the respect for the whole information solid and sound, the headline was "serving bombs" and was left unveiled.... For bombs you need the instrument too, I mean you must prepare an especial heavy and specially balanced racquet which is camouflaged like the ones you play... Then in the match you feel that you are ready, the serve is ON and warmed up .. and you take out the very racquet during the changes of the sides.... Now you have your bombs . Don't forget to change the racquet to receive the service... One with attentive eye can notice that process done by pros

You’re a great coach Kevin, love watching ya. But do you remember in English comp class you’d turn in a paper and the teacher would hand it back and tell ya, be concise, cut it down by 300 words? So you’d take the paper back, cut out what you thought was too much repetition and you’d turn it back in. The teacher would say, GREAT, even more, and hand it back. You’d turn in frustration and scratch your head wondering what to do. So you’d go back, edit it out another 200 words and add a picture or diagram. Yada yada…you get the point. Just like my comment here I could have easily wrote…less talk more hitting…be more concise with your words. I like your vids…just cut the talk by about 500 words and replace it with hitting examples rather than word examples 😊 (just my humble advice! Check out Nikola Aracic’s vids at Intuitive Tennis. He does it really well…and you’re really close to what I think are the 2 Top TouTube tennis instructional channels)
