I was basically told that I wasn't "bad enough" to enter detox too even though I was coming off cocaine and a 7 year stretch of opioid/heroin addiction. Ended up having to do it at home. I'm now 94 days sober.

This is insane. I’m from the UK and I’m shocked at how the US prescribed opioids in the first place and how they have no real system in place for heroin addicts!!! Absolutely crazy...

Wow, im used to criticism, rumours, vile lies and defamation but seeing this Gentleman actively research and make it his mission to highlight the shameful statistics and truths about the availability of detox facilities, to show genuine empathy makes me believe there are honest to god good people out there. GOD BLESS YOU X

Ron Calhoun You deserve this. I am a Mental health nurse and drugs councillor because two of my beautiful daughters were Heroin Addicts. Now four year's clean. You talk sense. Here there's no rehabs, no detox centres. Methadone has saved so lives. Quick reduction course then off. Welcome to our world. 💗 Its a sad place for parents. So well done to you my friend. 💗 We have to.

Big pharma should have there own recovery center. How many people go from meds to heroin! I've watched countless addiction stories and sooo many that went from painkillers to a needle full of heroin. Thank God for anonymous programs. Great video cheers.

How long did you use? I’ve been in active addiction for going on 10 years plus now in fear I’m just too far into it to get clean?

Ron I have just come across your video. It made me cry. My stepson Josh is a heroin addict. He’s been to four detox centres (paid) including outpatients facilities and detoxed with his dad over a week, only to go straight back to heroin. We are from the UK and I totally agree with you. There is no immediate help out there unless you pay. We have the nhs (national health system) but as you say you have a long waiting list and your loved ones could have died in the meantime. It is so sad and frustrating for parents to go through this. We are living through a nightmare that we can’t wake up to.

I never realized how hard it was elsewhere.. Here in NY you have no problem getting into a detox. But even with those places available , kicking heroin is the hardest thing I have ever done. Its with me all the time. I dont have this beat . Ive fooled myself so many times. I have to be careful

The world needs more people like this man. It was a struggle to find a place that would take me in but with persistence and an amazing family supporting me, I'm not a year and 5 months clean and never been happier.

A lot of people get fed up on their own and do it at home because they realize the business addiction brings and they get clean by themselves

God bless you for your work. The action fase is for the rest of your life! The hardest part in recovery is between detox and action because once an addict gets clean from detoxing they think their normal again and if they dont stay in outpatient they will relaps soon because they think their ok because they dont have physical withdrawl symptoms and what they experienced when they first became addicted draws them back! Your a blessing to many!

Just curious if anyone can relate, but everytime I've tried to quit and have actually gone close to a week but caved in because the family or friends that are around you in this process make you feel like a piece of shit for the odd things you do, because you do weird things while detoxing to take your mind off of the pain and the restlessness? My cousins accused me of relapsing and lying because I would go smoke (cigarettes) in my car while detoxing, they didn't ever walk outside to my car to get any kind of fucking proof, they just sat inside and assumed and then told my family who wasn't there that I was using and gone for hours upon hours driving around high. This is another huge problem, when someone is detoxing, let them do the weird shit they do because that's what they need to do to keep their minds off of the drug. It's obviously not "normal" to take a walk at 2 am but it's also obviously not normal to be addicted to poison. So be patient, and understanding. If you haven't done the drug and or detoxed yourself, then you have no idea at all how fucked up it feels physically and what level of depression and anxiety you go through.

Jason Ivea family can be very triggering. Don’t let them get in your head man and make getting better priority number one. Also know that they’ve been lied to for a long time and are still paranoid for a good reason. It’s still frustrating especially in early sobriety but you can’t change someone’s mind. Good luck

Six-month waiting list? Every single detox that I've called or entered has always said so it might be a month but somebody leaves their bed or leaves detox Ama or something and a bed opens pretty quickly. I wish he had known that at that time
