I first chanced upon Addiction Tokyo when I went to Tokyo back in 2013- I was browsing the beauty floor at a departmental store and came upon the Addiction Tokyo counter. As a WOC, what struck me about the brand was how pigmented and inclusive their shade range was. I cannot remember their complexion products, but I remember that I got myself some eyeshadows and lipsticks and they were magnificent - creamy, highly pigmented, top-quality eyeshadows and hydrating yet long-wearing lipsticks. Of course, years have passed and I no longer have those makeup products, and so, it's really lovely to see you featuring them! Everyone talks about K-Beauty these days, but I don't find a lot of K-Beauty brands to be as inclusive as this particular J-Beauty brand. Thanks for the brand refresh - I'll have to get some new makeup products from them... I don't need another blush Alicia but you tempt me so!

I'm so glad you posted this. I discovered Addiction Tokyo, and many other Japanese makeup brands, a few years ago after seeing renowned makeup artists and Japan based bloggers rave about the brand. I previously purchased their items through Japanese proxy sites and I was relieved when the brand launched their U.S. site last year as I wasn't sure they would ever expand to the west. I'm a dark tanned WOC and everything I have from the brand shows up on my complexion beautifully. I have 6 of their eyeshadows, 2 blushes, 2 lipglosses (discontinued), and 1 lipstick. I love how soft and wearable the makeup is and the overall quality is amazing. I plan on purchasing their nail polishes next.

Alicia, I have a friend who's Japanese and wears very little make-up. This brand would be one that she would be very comfortable with using, yet not so much all of the cheek products nor any of the brighter mattes on the eyes. She simply likes to add a very light shade of sparkle dabbed onto her lids and that's it. She wouldn't buy from Suqqu as it's geared more towards the Western make-up wearer. I gifted her a Suqqu lipstick at Christmas and she initially was weary of it due to being a soft berry tone. Once I showed her how to sheer it out, she was happy to wear and accept it. We're looking at very different cultures here and the Japanese simply do not feel the need, in general, to wear colour or vibrant colour. I actually feel that Addiction Tokyo is much more subdued than Suqqu. I haven't seen the products available from Addiction Tokyo, but I'm guessing that there wouldn't be brighter shades such as blues or greens etc., or I think you would have tried one of these. I wear all different types of make-up from very soft to nice and bright, depending on my mood or what I'm wearing. As much as I like the lovely soft looks you created with these products, I already have many similar types of shadows, cheek and lip products in my collection that look exactly the same. I too, like a nice muted cheek colour and on my eyes too. As I have a small face and features, the last thing I wish to do is overwhelm with colour. An example of a few of these are the Mediterranean Quad from Chanel, Golden Bouquet from Dior and several other shades from a variety of products that will do the same thing. I like a nice soft brown on the cheeks, as it's all I need. I do add a tad more colour to my lips due to not having much pigment in them naturally. I liked just about all the shades you chose for yourself. I didn't like the yellow blush and would rather see it mixed with something else like an orange/peach tone, I felt the muted mauve highlighter was far too cool for your skin-tone and didn't like the matte lip colour. One thing I was curious about, was how the cream products, specifically the eye-shadows held up in the heat and whether they creased? I can get away with blending out an eye crayon, yet they aren't as soft as those eye-shadows. I loved the shades you chose in these cream shadows but worried how they'd go on my eyes. I have several of Chanel's Baume Essential Sticks and sometimes use them on the cheeks whilst dabbing some finally milled highlighter over the top to add a little more colour. I enjoy playing around with pigments, so really don't need anything more. I already call myself the mad scientist of make-up. I think you'd have fun with those products from Rabanne that are meant to assist in changing product around. I've been watching your older videos again yesterday and overnight. Do you still have the Backstage Dior Cheek Glow Palettes? I was desperate to get that Copper one but they stopped production before I could get it.😢 I also saw you with the two Burberry Cheek Palettes too and was curious as to whether you still have them, forgotten about them or never survived a declutter? You should go back and watch yourself in these videos to see how excited you were over these products and ask what happened? Do you still use them and if not, why? I also have the Burberry Cheek Palette in the Light-Medium and just love it! Still have the Dior Glow Palettes too. I've never liked brightly coloured cheeks on myself and happy to use the more muted tones like you've shown in this video. A favourite I like to use as a blush is the Chantecaille Cheek & Eye Palette that came in the fluorescent green packaging. I also love the Suqqu pre-Summer 2023 (?) blush in beige with the green marbled throughout that looks like the light brown you used. I'll have to see if Addiction Tokyo is available to us in Australia, as you never mentioned the prices of the products and that's something I'm curious about. Not happy about the products coming in plastic packaging when there are palettes that can be bought to place them in. In this day and age, we need to be more responsible. Okay, I'm finally done! I must admit that I have never heard of this brand. I’m also not proud to share that I had a preconceived notion that Asian lines (excluding the Patricks, of course) offered products that overall are far too subtle for me to even consider. Well, clearly I was wrong. There is definite impact here albeit with a softer delivery. I love the glow from within looks. I love how the formulas all work well with each other. The highlighters are screaming “buy me!” Watching them melt into your skin and offer serious glow without looking glittery is truly a presentation to behold. That yellow blush brought something totally new to the table. Wow! It was just gorgeous! Even the beigey blush had impact. Seeing the colors in the pan had me thinking I would not be able to detect them on your skin. I was wrong again. Finally, what you did with the eyeshadows… the blend, the textures, the easy application…. Beautiful!

Great video Alicia! I recently tried Addiction Tokyo a few months back and OMG this is a beautiful brand. I adore the pearl blush I got in Sky Flower and the lipstick extreme shine reminds me of Suqqu and Chantecaille, but better than Chantecaille bc of the shade diversity!! Can’t get enough of Japanese beauty!
