My friend got equipment like this preactically brand new at a fraction of the price from a startup company in NJ that went out of business. He uses it for the business he operates out of his home. He is in another industry, but I do know there is a demand for replacement parts for antique cars being restored for which factory parts are not available. People find a working model of a car in a collection or museum, scan the part in 3D and then can reproduce them exactly. Some 3D printers can even manufacture metal parts. Some of the videos on Jay Leno’s Garage channel on KZfaq address this topic. You need the skill of generating/tweaking the 3D models which can generate the files for the 3D printers or CNC machines. My friend has both types of machines and is doing some amazing work.

@@tg_ny That's awesome. Yeah, Jay Leno's Garage has done some really cool stuff. If I had "billion dollar" lotto funding, my first goal would simply be to start cataloging all the NOS and other "good" parts that I could find. There are some ways to get good scans even of internals. Pipe dream, but still exciting that someone is doing it.
