Adidas seem to be moving toward the right direction with acquisitions, time will tell if it pays off. Nike probably left Jerry out to dry because they didn't see the numbers being pushed as much as they hoped with the FOG line outside of the shoes (pieces stayed in stock for quite a while, even at a discount). It may also have to do with them focusing on their new Nocta line with Drake, who has a tenure with Nike for much longer than Jerry, and quite frankly holds more influence than Jerry. With Drake and Travis Scott as their spearhead, Nike might not think it is worth spending their resources on Jerry if the past collections probably didn't reach the expectation Nike had.

Nikes legacy products combined with their constant innovation for the serious athletes is just too much to overcome

Man as much as I want to have that Reebok Question x FOG collab , it may not happen. Because Adidas is selling Reebok to someone else (buyer will be announced in March). But whoever does buy the brand should not pass up on the idea of that FOG collab as it will give Reebok a good amount of press. Plus Kerby Jean Raymond (Pyer Moss) is the Global Creative Director for the brand so there is some hope there.

Bottom line, it’s about profit. To us hypebeasts (yeah I said it), this is groundbreaking news. However, ceding more control to Jerry to run an entire Nike department is a mistake to Nike. Regular consumer isn’t going to spend $250 plus for basketball or running shoes or $100 on a tee because it has FOG branding. Heck, they don’t even know who Jerry Lorenzo is. If a regular person has a choice between a discounted $15 Nike tee or a $100 FOG Adidas tee, they’re going for the $15 tee every time.

I know his stint is over but would you consider Errolson's role with Nike ACG parallel or close to Jerry's? I guess it's slightly different where Y-3, YZY, and I'm assuming FoG are sub labels, but I feel the idea is the same. Although Acronym wasn't actually a sub label, the aesthetic was present in the ACG designs. Personally, I don't think Nike is behind the ball on this too much. All they have to do is the same thing with Fragment, Undercover, and Ambush. Everyone is still playing catch up to Nike and I think in this day and age, collaboration is still king. Y-3 line isn't really for the masses. It's for a group of loyalists for the most part. YZY had a lot of buzz in the beginning but has died down the past year and a half or so. Jerry's line will probably follow the same path. A lot of buzz early on because it's new but I think the drawback is the repetitiveness of the aesthetic. IMO, it'll start off with everyone wanting to get a hold of everything, by the 4th or 5th collection, it'll be more for the loyalists. Either way, I'm excited to see what he comes up with.

I do think this is a big move by Adidas but we'll have to wait and see if this has a lasting impact. I definitely respect your opinion about Adidas being willing to hand the keys of the castle to creatives but I'm not so sure that's the way going forward. Do creatives have that much staying power? From what I have observed it seems at the end of the day people are more willing to follow the brand itself more than the creators attached to them. Signing Yeezy, Pharrell, Beyonce, Ninja, etc. hasn't made me any more interested in Adidas as a company or their products at all. And I think this is true across everyone I know. I think Nike overall, apart from the collabs and creators that they have in their fold, is a much stronger company overall across all of it's products regardless of what it is. Fear of God may bring more people to Adidas and the apparel that comes from this deal might be interesting but I don't think this is going to have much of a splash beyond the initial buzz that it's creating. Nevertheless, it'll be interesting to see how this unfolds. Keeping It Casual.

I say this with love, but my dude just say “Adidas” whatever way you like. Saying “Adidas or Adidas” throughout the majority of the video breaks the flow of your dialogue. And we all love the natural flow of your dialogue. Just keep it simple. Say “Adidas” whichever way you like. By the way, I like the simple backdrop.

Not one Adidas shoe was in the shoe of the year discussion.. Nikes too big to care about this.. if Jerry moved the needle they would have kept him.. they got Virgil and Travis the 2 most popping guys around.

I just think Nike and Adidas have different cultures, and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Adidas has been way more collaborative for a long time already, while Nike’s progress is much more technical and ‘skunkworks’. I don’t really see a need for Nike to change their formula. If anything, I appreciate the difference in culture.

Reggie, I always value your perspective. I’d like to provide my juju with you. 1: Nothing Wrong With Pronouncing it Right. Say it like you do and embrace it because you come correct. Big ups. 2: Adidas is NOT oceans behind. I’d argue they’re oceans ahead. What metric are we using to gauge this progress? # of collabs / sneaker silhouettes? People Collaborating x Materials Used? For me, Parley, Prime Blue, Prime Green and 4D are enough for me to put Adidas ahead of the rest. Space Hippie is cute and Nike’s commitment sustainability is admirable. (Side note, don’t say you are committed to sustainability and then release a shoe filled with TPE beads). If you’re measuring how a company is ahead or behind via any of the aforementioned variables above or elsewhere I’d love to hear your thoughts but my mind is on the environment and how the fashion industry will need to address their “business as usual” operations to even compete in the future. Mahalo my guy.

In terms of pure value of the entire brand. Adidas is an ocean behind Nike, despite being number two. 34.4 Billion for Nike vs 12 billion for Adidas. Nike has increased it's value year after year since 2010. Adidas has only increased it's value for 2 consecutive years following two years of decline.
