I truly admire Aditi Rao Hydari as a dancer and actress. Aditi is abundantly talented, and she performs gracefully and effortlessly on screen. I feel she was meant to be in front of the camera. I thoroughly enjoyed 'HEERAMANDI: The Diamond Bazaar', and I feel the entire cast gave compelling, powerful, and moving performances. Being a Kathak dancer myself and having learned the classical dance form at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan (West Kensington, London, UK) for several years, I also learned about Courtesans and their way of life. Courtesans faced much prejudice and injustice within society because it was unwilling to challenge patriarchy or hold those who enjoyed patriarchy to account for their privileges and behaviour toward women - especially Courtesans. Whilst watching 'HEERAMANDI', I felt goosebumps, because the music and the dance sequences (mujhras) took me back to my Kathak class days, and reminded me of the dance sequences I had learned from my teachers. I adored the dance sequences as well as the music. I feel Aditi is spot on when she says that Sanjay Leela Bhansali who is an artist and visionary in his own right must be able to execute his vision and portray his stories on-screen in the way in which he chooses to do so as an artist. Every filmmaker has freedom of expression, and they must be able to tell their story in whichever format they feel suits the narrative, structure, and story that they're telling their audience. As an audience, it is our responsibility to show our respect toward the filmmaker, cast, and crew involved in the film or series created. It is abhorrent to make fun of someone or troll them because an audience member didn't enjoy their performance. You didn't make the film or series, so you are not in a position to make such comments. Also, the actor and/or actress has taken direction and followed the directors vision to the best of their capability. There are crucial decisions being made whilst the film or series is being made and then finally at the editing table. It is important to try and understand why those decisions were made. And, ultimately, it is about appreciating that film or series for what it has become when it reaches the audience. Every film or series has a life of its own. Much time, effort, and creativity are spent in shaping important elements during the filmmaking process. It's high time some audience members learnt to appreciate and respect filmmakers, actors, and actresses instead of ripping them apart. Those who behave in such a manner do not deserve to be a member of any audience! Stringent action needs to be taken on social media platforms to stop trolls from bullying behaviour - enough is enough!!!
