Your handle bars provide the contact point which sets your body position on the bike. Depending on what type of riding you spend your time doing you may want your handle bars higher or lower. In this video we explain how your bars effect your body position and which body position is best for which type of riding.

Buy spacers. Metal rings you slide onto the fork bar. If you can't add anymore spacers, you might need another fork that hasn't been cut. Like the video mentions, a stem with a steeper angle might help. Also, handlebars with increased angle. 3 options at least

If you want to adjust your bar height the easiest way, use a threaded headset and a quill stem. Cut those bars down and add some brightly coloured anodised bar ends for good measure. Don't forget to fit your cable stop if required, so that you can have your cantilever brakes running mint.

The only thing I don't understand in the A-Head system is, why is it superior to the old "steerer tube slides in the fork tube" system. It was a more logical system, easy to adjust the bar height and the bearing clearance independently, no need to play with spacers, and offers much more height adjusting range.

Can higher bars cause the front wheel to wash out? I find that with my new frame which is bigger, more travel longer and slacker, that on turns going downhill and berms that I don't have enough weight on the front wheel. I have a xc mtb with the stock long neck and 650mm handlebar and the forward position it puts me in makes my back arch and give me neck pain on the trail. I'm 6'1" btw. Should I get a wider handlebar with a shorter neck for more stability and make my reach shorter so my back and neck are more in line? Also with the extra weight on the front it fatigues my arms and hands.

Hello guys. need some advice. I recently installed a stem riser onto my mountain bike, and it doesn't seem to be stable. Let me explain: before every bike ride, I like to test that everything is in tact to prevent any injuries, you know, things like the seat, handlebars, and peddles. I've tested the handlebar too by trying to move it side to side, and after installing the stem riser, THE HANDLEBARS MOVE. I need to know whether this is normal? Should I return it? PLEASE NOTE: Its not super lose, so requires a little bit of strength to get handlebars to move out of position. BEFORE installing the stem riser, this did not happen....EVER! what should i do? Thanks

@mrvk699
@mrvk699 6 жыл бұрын
Go for a road bike. 100/100 recommend. You're gonna outrace other kids. I used to go on an ATB or all terrain bike to school. It did have fork and mid spring suspension and 21 gears and good enough grip. But i wish i also had experience on a road bike because in less efforts you go huge paces. Bmx are very very in efficient and forget about long rides like 10-15 or even 20km. These long rides in a group maybe be justifiable , but when you're alone, a road bike is the best, with lowest Rolling resistance and Loads of kilometres that you can pile up !
@mrvk699
@mrvk699 6 жыл бұрын
By the way, you can buy a Stem Riser Kit, That attached to fork and you can raise the bar height. It's all cheap not very expensive way and you have to experiment yourself for your body type and Feel by riding atleast kilometer or two on your way to school daily. There's nobody which can make you feel better than yourself, out of enlightment. Try every spacer daily and which one feels better.

XC - more weight to the front wheel? Seriously?? Could you give me any source that explains it? I've been riding cross country a lot and on flat terrain there's much more weight on the rear. I would say: XC - 40 front/ 60 rear, enduro - 35 front / 55 rear, DH - 30 front / 70 rear and I think I actually heard it somewhere. Confirms with my observations as I do a little enduro.

@peterkelly7937

marlon cordova Do you have any room to move with your stem spacers first? If you have any above your stem currently you could try moving them below first, but if that’s already been done and you still want more height, then yes a riser bar will definitely help. It’s all personal preference really but something around 25mm rise is a good spot to aim for.

can't you get the best of both worlds by having a longer stem and a riser bar? so your weight is over the front wheel but also in a downhill position due to the high bar??
@vaikeaaon
@vaikeaaon 7 жыл бұрын
Kye Wilson It's not that easy. With longer stem your steering won't be as nimble as with shorter stem. You need to have narrower handlebar with longer stem or steering will feel really weird. With longer stem it's harder to unweight front wheel for drops and jumps even with higher riser bar. I think 50mm stem is pretty good starting point for a modern trail bike. Maybe even 35-40mm if you're cycling with Mondraker or similar long reach bike.

+toasty bear The fork travel changes how high your head tube is, and how slack the bike is. Spacers on top of the stem will mean you have more of your body weight further forward on the bike. Watch the full video, they explain how the spacers effect cornering, climbing, and descending.

Samorak's Technic Vehicles my point is that carrying extra spacers is a waste of time, because you should never have exposed steerer tube, and you can move the spacers from underneath to on top and visa versa- adding an extra spacer would require you to have a longer steerer tube right?

It's hard these days to get riders to believe the physic of handle bar rise because they don't buy it literally. Fad rules them all.
