Adjusting my Rear shock - suspension setup. Rebound, fast and slow speed compression damping adjustment on WP Rear suspension shock.
Basically I haven’t been able to get out on the weekends due to lockdown so I thought I’d adjust the suspension and film as I go. It’s an easy setup to adjust especially with the manufacturers specs in the manual, but do keep in mind the sag of the bike and your weight in relation to the spring rate.
Thank you for watching!!

Nice little vid, are you limited to using that exact number of clicks? or can you vary the amount between say standard and sport? Also congrats on hitting 600!
@MALVSMACHINE
@MALVSMACHINE 3 жыл бұрын
Cheers dude. There’s only a click in between each setting but when you look at how many clicks there are between comfort and sport, you can see that it doesn’t take a lot to change the dynamics of the shock. If someone isn’t getting anywhere with the standard settings, changing the spring for a stiffer or softer one is always an option, or you can go down the route of paying for a suspension company to change the internals. For me, I think the current adjustability of this shock is plenty but I am tempted to change the spring to see how it behaves with my fat-ness. Thanks for the thanks, but thank you for being a subscriber 👌🏻

You need to set your sag, and rider sag first with all your riding kit on. The manual details this. My ktm is 37mm I think.

This is me adjusting my rear suspension, as the title suggests. It’s not a ‘how to’. I filmed it and just added a bit of information in the hope it helps someone in the future. If it does, please help a fellow biker out by dropping a like and subscribing 🙂👍🏻. Front Suspension Vid will be linked at the end card.

I don’t have a 17 mm nut where it should be and shows in the manual. I do have a a low speed adjustment but where the high speed nut should be it just a circle with two long flat sides about 21mm. Anytime I tried moving it I would just start to round the edges. Any advice?

Hello my friend. Unfortunately adjustments in this video are specified for this suspension through the experience I have with adjusting it. I cannot comment on the suspension modifications that have been made to your suspension so cannot advise on what you need to do. I really do wish I could help but on this occasions I can only comment on what I know with regards to what I know about my setup.

Remember this bike was built from a country that's average height is 5'11" it's good suspension.
@MALVSMACHINE
@MALVSMACHINE 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you’re right there, I’ve got no issue with the suspension or the height, it was just too soft because the weight of me and my gear combined were higher than what the standard spring is rated to. I now have an uprated spring to suit the weight of me and my gear as well, so I’ve got the feeling that I like 👍🏻.

Discovered my high speed nut it locked solid against the larger (22mm?) nut behind it. If I try to loosen the high speed nut, the larger nut moves, not the adj nut. What to do?
@MALVSMACHINE
@MALVSMACHINE Жыл бұрын
Hi Doug, the only thing that comes to mind is to spray the adjustment nut with some penetrating fluid to try and get some lubrication in between it and the larger bolt behind it, then use a spanner to hold the large nut while trying to work the adjustment nut loose.

@MALVSMACHINE
@MALVSMACHINE 2 жыл бұрын
There is a guide, I’m hoping to make a video soon but as soon as I get back home later, I’ll reply with the info and hopefully it will be the same way to adjust yours as well 👍🏻
@MALVSMACHINE
@MALVSMACHINE 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, so, I’ve got the info for the forks which I’m hoping will be the same as yours. The white adjuster which is on the top of the left fork is for the compression and the red adjuster on the right hand fork is for the rebound. Turn the adjusters clockwise as far as they can go and the settings are as follows: Sport - 12 clicks Standard - 15 clicks Comfort - 18 clicks To adjust the spring preload of the fork, you have to raise the bike off the floor. The outer adjusters on the top of each fork are called T-grips and they adjust the preload. Turn those counterclockwise all the way and marking +O should align with the right side T-grip on both forks. Comfort and Standard are both +O according to the manual. Sport is +3. I hope that helps - but I will make a video for it soon as I haven’t really played with my front suspension yet, and it feels quite dead so I need to do something with it. Thanks for your question 😊👍🏻✊🏻

Hello dude. I don’t have an 85 SX but the KTM Manual has everything you need: www.ktm.com/en-us/service/manuals.html Hopefully that link will work, if not, type ‘KTM User manual’ in to google and you can find it through there - then type 85 SX in the box. The manual is free 👍🏻.

So I always thought that the more counterclockwise you went on the rebound the faster the shock was going to rebound
@MALVSMACHINE
@MALVSMACHINE 3 жыл бұрын
It’s always been a bit of a dark art to me to be fair, but I had a good read of the the user manual and compared what they have in that with some other guides online and once I got a hang of the different meanings, it was quite easy to understand what I was doing with that particular shock; other setups may differ though. I’ve recently changed the spring so will be good to see how the ‘Race’, ‘Comfort’ and ‘Sport’ settings fair with a spring more suitable for my weight and gear.
@rfunk8198
@rfunk8198 3 жыл бұрын
I only say that because the clockwise motion should restrict the flow of oil and make the rebound slower. But the husky manual says go the opposite for comfort which implies soft or slower rebound. When I go in with mine, it does feel weird like maybe it’s opposite of what I think.
@MALVSMACHINE
@MALVSMACHINE 3 жыл бұрын
@@rfunk8198 yeah it’s a strange one isn’t it, they must have their valves set to open when turning clockwise. Suspension ay, absolute dark art 😄

@motovalleyenduro
@motovalleyenduro 10 ай бұрын
@@rfunk8198the reason it says that is because adjusting rebound can have an effect on compression. Going counter clockwise will speed up rebound but also makes the suspension feel more plush as well. Many riders get compression where they want and then only make slight changes to rebound for different terrain types because of its overall effect on suspension feel.
