I am a piano teacher on my free time (I mainly work as a programmer, but I studied piano from years 5 to 18). I can tell you that the look you have when you play reveals a very high commitment and discipline. You will get far, especially now that you can buy a piano with weighted keys. Keep it up ;)

Congratz on your progress bro! To Zanarkard sounds amazing EVEN without a pedal, truly excellent work! There are a few suggestions by other people regarding your hands position that I'd take into consideration just to prevent injuries and of course, if you can get a sutain pedal in the near future it'd be really cool. Keep it up!

I use the pedal when I play around on pianos at the stores, and yes it sounds much nicer. The cheap keyboard we got for our child's Christmas present (which wasn't played much until I started using it) doesn't have the capability to plug in a pedal. I'm trying to save up for something good, so hopefully soon!

Amazing progress ! Try to play bach prelude at the right rythm, it's a little bit slow. Try also to maintain the first two notes played with your left hand while playing the other ones with the right hand (but you're right to not use a pedal for Bach)

You're doing very well! Considering the limitations of the instrument you're working with (I doubt the keyboard you're using has weighted keys) and the less-than ideal seating position (much too low), you're showing a reasonably good hand position and relaxation in arms, hands and fingers, and good transfer of weight from the arms through the fingers and into the keys. Your foundation from your 7 - 8 year-old studies seems to have been somewhat retained and is serving you well. I'm sure you'll find it more comfortable to play on an actual acoustic piano or digital keyboard with weighted keys. Learning to play without the pedal is actually a good way to start -- at least for some pieces -- especially the Bach, while other pieces require use of the pedal to smooth the legato connections. Looking forward to what you do next -- keep up the great work!

Yes, it seemed the fundamentals were still there when I started practicing again. Since I kept it a secret from my wife (as explained in my 1-year progress video), I couldn't buy a good piano/keyboard. Now that the secret is out, I've been checking out some keyboards with weighted keys. Thank you for the support!

Nice man, great work! Have you thought about getting an upright? I started progressing a lot faster when I got a real piano. I'm not sure what it's like in Japan but in Australia there are free ones on marketplace at all times, and if you're lucky you can find a smaller form one. Keep up the great work, looking forward to hearing more, bless.

@@KyleinJapan It can be a toss-up between getting a free (or inexpensive) used acoustic piano vs. a reasonable digital keyboard with weighted keys. The acoustic piano is heavy, will require periodic tuning, and may need repairs to be fully playable on all keys, and cannot be easily silenced as your keyboard can. A good digital keyboard with weighted keys may cost a bit more than "free" -- but it won't require tuning, can be moved around much easier, can be practiced any time (with headphones), and will have additional features (different sounds, rhythms, etc.) which can be a lot of fun. If space and budget allow, I'd recommend also getting an adjustable stand and bench if you're planning to spend many more hours at this -- you don't want to ingrain a poor playing posture or tension which may be limiting to your playing and injury-prone I have a Yamaha P-125 which I thoroughly enjoy (I am a classically-trained pianist and organist); other choices are instruments by Roland and Kawai, with Casio being perhaps towards the less optimal choices in terms of durability.
@KyleinJapan
@KyleinJapan 29 күн бұрын
Thank you for the info! I'd love to have an acoustic piano for authenticity, but a keyboard is the practical choice for our current accommodations. Each time I've tried playing around on keyboards and digital pianos at the stores, I really like the feel of the Roland models. I hope to get an upgrade soon!
@aBachwardsfellow
@aBachwardsfellow 29 күн бұрын
@@KyleinJapan Looking forward to hearing what you get! I selected the P-125 because I was able to tweak the touch parameters to make it most nearly match my acoustic Yamaha U1 in feel and sound. Since Yamaha makes both, the transition from practicing on the P-125 to the U1 feels nearly seamless - :-)

I'm also an adult beginner piano learner (and a programmer :D). My piano teacher has corrected me several times regarding the correct posture and hand positioning. Initially, I was very excited during the first 4-5 sessions and made many mistakes. However, nowadays, I really enjoy playing with her. I learn a lot from her. I believe you also need a nice teacher. (first: your keyboard is too high)

@@deegaw11 Dee -- you ABSOLUTELY CAN!!!! Do yourself the favor of having a reasonably good instrument -- acoustic or digital -- and the proper seating. Take the time to pay attention to your sitting position and hand position so that you are not playing with unnecessary tension or discomfort. It's the small things that make a big difference -- especially in the beginning when everything is so new. You should be able to get used to playing correctly in just a few weeks if you pay attention to it and make it become second nature. Looking forward to seeing your first video! 🙂
