Old Korean lady drops exposition on the "Narf" as some kind of folk legend. There is no "F" sound in Korean.

@@kobayashi1194 another thing I like about the movie (besides Garth and Lily's subplot) is that in the end credits there's a slideshow of what looks to be concept art and sheet music, that's pretty unique and something that not any other animated film I've seen does. If only the story itself was as interesting then it would be known as an actually good film instead of mediocre furry galore, but at least it's a million times better than the sequels.

Having a stutter throughout a lot of my life and seeing it also in other members of my family, I've never heard a person stutter like Giamatti's character does. It's just so hammy, it has to be something M Night forced on Giamatti as he's far too good of an actor to screw up something as basic as credibly portraying a stutterer.

@alexandresobreiramartins9461
@alexandresobreiramartins9461 6 жыл бұрын
Oh, I believe you're totally correct. Look what he did to good actors in The Happening and Signs. They all act like they're defective emotionless robots, show facial expressions that don't match the situations (if any) and speak in low monotones. This HAS to be the director, because ALL the actors on those two movies do that. Hell, Mel Gibson is not at all a great actor, but he's far better than what he does in Signs. The scene where he's trying to decide what to do with Shyamalan for putting him in that movie (when the driver tells the priest he killed his wife), he looks like he's holding back a sneeze, not like the tortured soul he is supposed to be. Same with Giamatti here. The scene where he tries to display "childish innocence" is not merely cringey, it's downright embarrassing for all involved, the audience included.

It's so weird because just think about what's happening here.... Shamylon made up a story about not judging based on appearances for his kids with goofy kid story names. And then he turned that story into this meta commentary on criticizing tropes in films by trying to intentionally subvert everything. But Shamylon is SO fucking bad at meta commentary that instead of using existing tropes, he just used the elements of his own story that NOBODY ELSE knows and you're just expected to go along with this completely bullshit logic with no idea at all what any of it means or why this is even a thing. This is sort-of like if I was just like "Watch out, that guy's a goob-gabber because goob-gabbers are like this. But wait! He's not REALLY a goob-gabber, he's actually a jingoling frog-snuffer! Wasn't that a clever twist, guys?"

The fact that Korean characters know of the monsters make no sense because the 'F' sound doesn't exist in Korean. It's often replaced by 'P'. So it wouldn't be narf, it'd be NARP.

Whats so funny is that the premise of this movie isn't bad. Its actually kind of awesome. A group of characters find a girl from a lost civilization that was only part of a legend and they are all reincarnations of the character roles in that story! And the rest of the movie is them trying to figure out who fits which character role while fighting to save the girls life! Thats an awesome premise!

M. Night reminds me of my unmedicated ADHD self: great at coming up with creative ideas, but bad at follow-through and execution. That's fine if I have other people to help me or enough self-awareness and motivation to double-check my own work. the entire concept is flawed because it only serves as ego-christian allegory piece by Shamalyan M night loves to make jesus and christian allegory plots in his work and in this case he makes himself the chosen one who will inspire the future president but be murdered for mankind sins and of course his hatred of critics who slam him ,so he makes the critic the literal main/secondary villain of the film. The only reason for this film is an ego piece for the director.

EGO, pure and simple M Night was good with the Sixth Sense and Unbreakable because he was just starting out, and he wa exploring actual creative ideas But as started with signs M night began to put more and more of his christian ideology into his films Signs is not a horror film or a sci fi film it’s a “rediscovering ones christian faith” film with alines as a mere plot device This film literally has M night make himself jesus and even attacks criticism and critics The village was a great idea but the twist ruins it and was poorly executed, The happening is ridiculous and should have ended his entire career
