Your podcasts are brilliant, Anna. I'm someone who lives in northeast England and here I struggle with the accent the most. I always listen to your podcasts, and some others, to enhance my vocab as I'm now entering a new setting - I just got a job as an interpreter, and guess what - your podcast is one of the best podcasts to enhance students' English grammar, learn new phrases and idioms + new vocab all the time and that's from my personal experience. I'd love to see you upload more pocasts (Learn English With a Short Story type of podcasts*) like Luke on KZfaq. It does tempt a lot of people to your channel. Thanks

Funny podcast. Here we don't keep a queue in our lives. Question of culture and nature. But in Tenerife, the roads toward little towns are so narrow, and buses enormous. It is a tricky job for bus drivers, furthermore, climbing up to Mountain Teide could be a restless journey. The last time I caught a bus you weren't born. But when I was in Oxford I caught the bus at 6.30 in the morning and the windshields were with mist and I had no idea how the drivers could see the roads. lol

Today was a rough day Anna! First, my mother-in-law was hit by a bus I was in; Second, I lost my job as a bus driver! Third, she was quickly transported to the nearest hospital where she could be saved.

So sweeet. I subscribed your channel yesterday to improve my English listening.Madam please do me a favour.Please please make a video about directions and maps. I took IELTs exam a few months ago. I got a 6.5 band in listening and which was way less than what i really needed. It happened because i could not understand the language related to direction and maps.

~~~~ A Tricky Tetragraph ~~~~ When I come across 'ough', tricky tetragraph I sigh and though tough, hard to not have a cough! Give it a try guys and take a good PUFF! [/ʌf/] And to rhyme with it, follow me to Hough The stroll won't be tough, you'll be strong enough And I promise you the ground's not too rough Around this village, we could meet a chough Just to clear your voice, make a little cough [/ɒf/] Don't forget that one is rhyming with 'OFF' Let's have a lil' drink before you taper off Come and dip your hands into that pretty trough Near it stands a cow, perfect to learn HOW [/aʊ/] Resting over there, you should say that plough Under the blossom that hangs on the bough Making light of drought inside the cool slough Now we're refreshed, (some even massed their TOE), [/oʊ/] That is how these sound and this even though Better hit the road, we're not quite on furlough Some roots we might grow if we rest here like dough End of your tether?, I hope you' re still NOT [/ɔː/] Think what you've caught, will make you a dreadnought 'know it's a true fight, when you give it a thought But try to enjoy what so far the trip's brought Then, there's the 'ough' makin' you feel in a BREW [/uː/] For you have those that can be said like 'true' Brougham, the carriage, or town if you went through The case is also of the quite tricky 'slough' Have you heard of 'schwa' and the sound which is /ə/ [/ə/] The one in alive and again and mother That's how you'd hear it in a British Borough U.S. might protest, they say /oʊ/ in thorough After the ballad, you might fancy a CUP [/ʌp/, /əp/] of tea but before, I'd like to speak up That in fact 'hiccough' is said like hiccup With a /əp/ or a /ʌp/; to you it is up! North of Perth; with /əf/, of /ʌf/ close enough Two lines will suffice for the river Greenough [/əf/] Ever thought of a link between 'knee' and 'CLOCK'? [/ɒk/] For sure never but, that's how's pronounced 'hough', As in Irish town 'Clough'! Even if 'Ness' you mock, The same goes for 'lough', irish cognate of 'Loch' The latter is 'Scot' but Irish is 'Turlough' Oh guys, look o'er there, you've seen the brown FOX?! ... [/ɒx/] Funny cause I was about to say, folks, That lough for a lake is also said /lɒx/ And Turlough, therefore, is uttered /Turlɒx/ But 1 remains though... weirdly rhyming with 'STOPS'! [/ɒp/] And it is 'Ough's Road' where the 'Ough's' is said /ɒps/ We now touch the end of the quite tricky path You're still there? Congrats! I know...English is tough! Fabrice. december 2021. English pronunciation is tricky, but It can be understood through tough thorough thought, though! 😂 Notes: Sough : [ Verb= make a characteristic sighing sound (esp. of the wind); Noun= a soft continuous murmuring sound OR a sewer or drain or an outlet channel] can be pronounced /sʌf/ (like in 'puff') or /saʊ/ (like in cow) "Slough" has three pronunciations, depending on its meaning: 1- /slʌf/ (for the noun meaning a skin shed by an animal, and for the verb derived from it) 2- /slaʊ/ (for the noun meaning a muddy area, and for the verb derived from it. Also for the noun meaning a state of depression) 3- /sluː/ (alternative US pronunciation for the noun meaning a muddy area, and for the verb derived from it)
Hello Anna, I've just known you since 1 week via Luke English Postcast. I like your style. I've finished almost 4 postcast on KZfaq. But I prefer to see your face on the screen. Anyway, one week after we'll visit to London with my two kids (age 10 and 4) for 5 days . While listening to this postcast I wonder something about London public transport. Do we need to get oyster card for the kids or are they charged? Thanks in advance. Sending love.
