When we first planned our road trip to New Mexico and beyond, Oppenheimer and what would become an epic blockbuster was the furthest thing from our mind. We were initially drawn to White Sands National Park, one of the world’s greatest natural wonders and the largest deposit of gypsum sand on earth. The 275 square miles of bright white sand dunes is mind-boggling, especially when you consider how it all got here and that 800 different species of animals survive in this hot, brutal environment, many not found anywhere else on earth. Little did we know our hike through this national park would be interrupted by MISSILES blasting off around us! We learn more about the massive missile range that surrounds the park and the world’s first atomic bomb that was secretly tested here.
Our road trip through New Mexico and Southwest Texas is full of surprises. We visit an observatory where scientists study the brightest light on earth -- the sun -- and then we tackle the tallest mountain in Texas at night; only to discover we’re in mountain lion country and that Guadalupe Peak is NOTORIOUS for wind gusts up to 80 miles an hour. Join us for an unforgettable road trip full of sand, sun and explosive history!

Nicely done. Next time, try a wooden sand sled. You won't be disappointed! 😀

Thank you so much for these videos. I have been a fan for years personally, and now I use them to teach my 5th grade class about the national parks!

The technique is, wax the board, streaks all in the same uniform direction, cover the waxed side of the board in sand, dust as much off, apply a 2nd layer of wax, same direction and then you're good to sled! The speed one catches is amazing!
