America’s national parks protect wildlife and ecosystems but they also preserve history and share stories that otherwise might never be told. Jean Lafitte Historical Park and Preserve in southern Louisiana is a great example. Named after a notorious smuggler and buccaneer -- this unique park is scattered over six different locations that are miles apart and each with their own tale to tell.
From the French Quarter in New Orleans to a battlefield seven miles downriver to a bayou teeming with alligators and snakes; Jean Lafitte National Park is a treasure trove of nature and history. The park tells the story of how a pirate who was regularly arrested and thrown in jail teamed up with a future US President. Together, they saved New Orleans and won a war. Join us to see how a rag tag mix of soldiers and armed pirates who were outnumbered defied the odds and emerged victorious. And explore the swamp where Lafitte and his fellow pirate hid out and ran their smuggling operation. Whether you’re a nature lover or history buff, this off-the-beaten-path adventure is unforgettable. Subscribe to our channel for more travel tips and exciting national park content!
