Hello,
In this video I take a look at the different sleeping bags and sleeping mats I use to get me through the 4 seasons here in the UK.
Mountain Equipment Helium 250 - www.mountain-e...
Rab Alpine 400 - rab.equipment/...
Rab Ascent 700 - rab.equipment/...
The Exped mats I use have now been updated and are no longer available, the new range is called 'Ultra' and the colours are a bit naff but they are quality products - www.exped.com/...
Although the down bags are expensive, I managed to get them heavily discounted by buying the summer bag in the middle of winter, and the warmer bags in the middle of summer when retailers are looking to shift stock.
Thanks for watching,
ATB,
Ben.

thanks again an excellent video. Explained great. Maybe you should use a quilt for the summer months. I love this one, I'm a side sleeper. And saves weight. And yet wonderfully warm.

Love down , nothing like it ! I’ve had a bag made by a company here in the U.S. called Western Mountaineering , the Antelope model , great winter bag. I love those exped mats too.

A few retailers sell the Western Mountaineering bags over here, they look very high quality and really lightweight. Thanks for watching mate 👍

Very informative as always, I find wearing merino wool top, bottoms and socks when I'm in a down bag works a treat and never feel the cold - its a nice warm thin layer to wear. First wild camp went really well, beautiful calm weather on a fell in the lakes (about 2200 feet/pike of blisco/) surprising how popular wild camping is now - but yes very addictive and so good for the soul.. looking forward to planning the next one. Atb mate keep um coming 👍

Hi Russ, I also have a full set of merino base layers; excellent for keeping warm. Glad the wild camp went well, it's great being high up as long as the wind isn't howling! Atb mate 👍

Good 1 Ben! As I have said before you have more gear than anybody I have ever met - where do you park the vehicles now the triple garage is full?😂 Now I have moved over to hammock camping I have actually cut back on a lot of equipment but as you say you are better off spending money on what you are on than what you are in. So an inflatable DD mat for spring, summer autumn + an underquilt for winter in conjunction with a DD 3 season x-tra large sleeping bag and various weights of liners. Thanks again. ATB mate😉

Hi Paul, aye the storage situation is reaching critical levels, a shipping container for the drive might ease the pressure for a few years 😂. Your DD set up sounds the same as mine except I use the under quilt all year round instead of a mat, but I guess night time temps over your way will remain high in the summer. ATB mate 👍

Cheers mate. I'm looking for a bag for winter camps. Firstly for Scotland at the beginning of November but also some in the snowy Pyrenees which can get super cold. I've been looking at the Ascent 1100 as I sleep cold and once I have it, it'll last for years. I think your exped mat is the one. I have the klymit one and while warm enough, I think it's 4.4 or something, it's just not wide enough and I need to upgrade eventually. It'll do though for now. Cheers for the video. Off to the Pyrenees in the morning and looks like it's going to be great weather, not too cold. Cheers Ben. Martin.

Hi Martin, I think the Ascent 1100 would be a good choice if you sleep cold. They're very well made and will easy last 20+ years, not too bulky or heavy given the level of insulation either. The Exped mats are also great, they do a down filled winter mat with a 7.1 R rating, 690g for the long and wide version and rated down to -30, it's called the Ultra 7R mummy, they cost over £200 so out of my budget but I bet it's like sleeping on a radiator! Have fun in the Pyrenees mate 👍

What sleeping bag & mat does Trish use out of interest please?
@Adventure-Outdoors

Hi Caroline, she uses the Mountain Equipment Helium 250 in the summer and the Rab Ascent 700 in the winter, both are the women's version (they seem identical to the mens version but smaller). She uses the same Exped winter mat all year round and often wears merino wool leggings and a top when it's going to be really cold. Hope that helps!
