Here are our first impressions of Tirana, Albania - Europe's funkiest and certainly one of the cheapest capitals in all of Europe.. Great success!

You have some really uneducated opinions in here, you think all of a sudden you know it all about what Albania was, or is. Calling Plis a Muslym hat, what an insult to our tradition and culture. Albania had Plis for thousand of years, well before Christianity and surely before Islam. Its a SECULAR multi-religous largely non practicant country. If you take it upon yourself to talk about Albania at least out of respect try to learn a thing or two, don't spill nonsense that you have heard on Hollywood movies.

I used to work for an international airline, and we had one passenger that was short on funds to cover their ticket. We were holding the reservation for 3 days, and hoped the individual would return before we had to release the booking. A man walks into our office with full payment for a roundtrip ticket, and was there to pay the full fare for a total stranger. He said he was sent to our office to pay for the booking we were holding for a citizen of his country, because his community collected sufficient funds to help a total stranger. He arrived at the office with the person that needed the ticket because we required proper i.d. They are a good people and we did a lot of business with the Albanian community. They're also amazing chefs.

I'm from Tirana, thank's for choosing our city to make this beauty video, we are a small country, perhaps the poorest in Europe becouse of the 45-year dictatorship that left us far behind, but in recent years tourism has grown a lot and through tourism Albania is becoming known all over the world, here besides Tirana there are other cities to visit, especially the coast is very beautiful, I love my country and I'm proud of it ❤️❤️🇦🇱🇦🇱

Met so many travelers and their pictures/impressions were so stunning. Visited Croatia a couple weeks ago - it blew my mind how pretty it was and how many unconscious bias I had towards the Balkans. 🙈 Heading to Bosnia in a couple of days.

Hey Elliot, I am from Colorado and New Mexico . In Spanish we say "popo" , which means the naval or umbilicus. Thank you for showing the prices at the restaurant and showing us around. That is amazing how cheap it was to fly there from Milan! We are really enjoying this video food and all.

Great video of your travels! Hope you enjoyed your stay. The white cap at 6:20 isn't a muslim hat as you asked. It's a traditional Albanian cap woven from wool and made locally, which explains why it's a bit pricier than the generic flag caps (probably from China). It's incredibly uncomfortable and although I'm sure there's some cultural significance to wearing them, I could never get past the itchiness :)

Those are traditional men's hats, and the shape ( round or flat top) identifies the region the wearer is from.

During the Yugoslavia war boat lads of cigarettes would travel in huge amounts to Bari in Italy which were flown in giant aircraft from the US. Here in the UK at the time our streets were flooded with not just a lot of black market tobacco but also heroin(same happened just after 9/11) and the Albanians became the leading importers of heroin at the time. They had close relationships with the Turkish here already who were among the biggest importers of drugs at the time. There are still many Albanians here who are heavily into heroin and coke importation. At the time the Albanians worked very closely with the Mafia from that part of Italy.

You’re right.. unfortunately a lot of Albanians are into the illicit trade and trafficking because of geography and past history. I think the root of it all it communism and poverty.. we will explore that topic in the next few videos.

That’s Illyrian hat not Muslim hat . Ancient Europeans used that hat aka Illyrians . Thus Albanianns aren’t define by religions since we liberated Europe from the ottomans at a time NON of Western Europeans dared to come to our aid instead hid like petrified bunnies on the bushes , we gained west 25 years of time to prepare against any foreign invasion.. We Albanians did so much for Europe, kinda of what Ukraine is doing today but with western help unlike us that didn’t receive any.We did so much for Europe something Europe hasn’t done to Albania . @@AdventureElliotyeah, same will be in my case. If you have money Albania is wonderful. It is safe, the weather is great, and the food is excellent. What else does one need? Hard to find these things together in one country.

@@londyc maybe a light jacket for the mountains in the north which had snow still in April. Otherwise you should have warm weather on the coast and in Tirana

we are not majority muslim we are like 50-50 but not many practice religion a muslim is called someone who prays 5 times a day albanian muslims dont do that they drink marry christians and we never even ask eachother what religion they belong we dont care our religion is albania and what god we pray to we keep it personal originally am orthodox christian

Albania is not Muslim country.... Albania is a secular parliamentary republic, in which the state guarantees freedom of belief. we are Catholic Orthodox Muslim Bektashi Atheist ...and 70 % are not practical and Respect all. So stop saying Muslim Country

Majority of albanians are muslims, 60% in Albania, 95% in Kosovo and 99% in albanian part of Macedonia. We are NOT christians at all.
