In this video we take a look at some of the adventures upgrading the lab to 2.5GbE 10GbE networking. This is done with a mix of copper cables as well as fiber optic. I have a few computer for editing and data storage that we wanted to get on the 10Gbe networking. I also needed to move a LOT of data temporarily so needed something faster than a USB cable. So diving in to the deep end of the pool and getting some things working. Ran in to quite a few challenges in this one.
** Repair exposes the Tech to mains electric and should only be done by trained personnel. Errors can be fatal. **

Thanks for the great content. Minor correction at 8:18s. You mention 20km over multimode. You will only achieve a few hundred metres with multiimode. 20km links require single mode fiber.

The biggest problems with DACs is not so much the limited length, but the amount of heat they generate, which can trip some cards, especially if they're passively cooled. In some cases, you can even burn the SFP+ port.

I'm looking into above 1g speeds for homelab stuff as well, and I think I'm gonna go down the SFP28 path and try to jump straight to 25g networking instead of jumping to SFP+ or QSFP.

I had lots of problems also with Windows 11. A few months back I also went back to Windows 10
