Wow, thank you for this video. I am currently completing my undergrad at Ryerson in Biomedical Sciences and I am planning on applying to OVC next year! There are so many things you talked about in this video that I am currently going through on a daily basis and it’s really nice to know that someone else is/has felt the same. My biggest fear right now is that I won’t have competitive enough grades to be accepted. It’s very comforting to hear that you experienced the same thoughts and that it really is still important to take time and care for myself. I also constantly worry about being rejected the first time I apply, sometimes I even feel ‘embarrassed’ about not being accepted even though I haven’t even applied yet!!! It’s really nice to hear that I am not a failure if I don’t get it the first time and that it has nothing to do with my ability to be a vet. Thank you so much for sharing!!

I feel like the application process for vet school is very stressful especially for undergraduate students. There can be potential veterinarians that are bad at doing tests but amazing at practicals. So I feel like it’s unfair in that way. Also there should be more opportunities/vet program in Ontario as well as across Canada. The vet programs in Canada is very limited so everyone is super competitive and it becomes less about “following your dreams” and more about “i have to do better than so and so.” I feel like the system of becoming a veterinarian in Canada should be better.

I agree, it's really interesting to see how vet schools around the world go about their application processes! A lot of the schools take into consideration experience and that plays a huge role in their application, instead of it just being based on marks and an interview!

Heyyy I'm in high school right now. I want to become vet because from my childhood we have a lots of pets in my home(cats and dogs) and I think that's make me in love with animals . My grandfather is also a vet but as you know that there is lot changes in applications . I'll be in England for my undergraduate and for vet college as well. My vet college should be Royal veterinary college London as I decided earlier. I wanna know that in undergraduate degree which are the subjects apart from biology and chemistry (I don't want to take maths).... Your videos are very helpful.. 😊
@yourvetamanda

In my undergrad I had to take a wide variety of biology, chemistry, physics and calculus courses. Later on in the program I got to take courses that were more specialized like wildlife nutrition or companion animal genetics!

Everything you said is exactly how I feel right now! I'm in my 2nd year of Bio at Uwaterloo and will be applying to OVC in 3 years (since I'm in the Coop program). I'm wondering, did you apply in your 3rd year when you got rejected to OVC? And what did you do in between getting rejected and getting accepted to OVC that you feel improved your application and got you accepted? Thank you for the video! They are so incredibly helpful and give great insight into the program and process.

I applied in my third year and that’s when I got rejected! I didn’t get offered an interview that year so I knew my marks were the biggest thing I needed to work on. I debated upgrading some of my prereq courses but at the end of the day I just decided to focus on my overall semester average and bump that up! I took a couple courses that were mark boosters and the rest of the courses I took were courses I knew I was really going to enjoy. It ended up being one of my best semesters of undergrad and I think that made the biggest difference on my application! Hope that helps ☺️

Hi! My name is Haylee I am in 8th grade and I have wanted to be a vet since I found out they were a thing. When I turned 12 I noticed I was squeamish/was not able to look at things that had to do with surgery/cutting and animal/human open. And I still can’t, but I still want to be a vet. I have always wanted to help dogs and cats especially dogs. I have loved dogs since I was 6 before dogs it was a kangaroo.😂 Anyways I was wondering if you had any tips to help me to concentrate in class. Right now I am so stressed because I almost didn’t pass 7th grade. This is off topic to this but I am taking care of my dog, my grandma’s dog, both of my cats, and one of my cats just had kittens so now I am also carring for 5 kittens.

Hi Amanda, thank you for filming this incredible video! I love it!🥺❤️ I am a grade 11 student from Toronto and I want to become a veterinarian since I was a kid. Yet, during COVID I don’t have a chance to volunteer in some animals organizations or even animal hospital. What should I do now? Also, I have one more question. It’s that I am struggling if I should only apply to Guelph Animal Biology program or could you please give me some suggestions on what program should I take a look🙌🏼 sorry for the really really long question 🙇🏻‍♀️
@yourvetamanda
@yourvetamanda 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching!! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! In terms of volunteering, I wouldn't worry too much right now! Hopefully once you get into university things will be a little more back to normal and volunteering will be a little easier 😊 Now for programs, you can honestly take any program as long as you complete the pre-reqs you need to apply to vet school. I personally liked animal biology because almost all the courses I took in my program could be used as pre-reqs for vet school. But with that being said, I would definitely apply to a program you're interested in! Hope that helps!

I was just curious on what you feel or how it would look if you apply for more than one Vet School? I know OVC was your dream school but is it bad or frowned upon applying at more than one?
@yourvetamanda
@yourvetamanda 3 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely not frowned upon to apply to more than one school! Unfortunately, ovc was the only school I could apply to without going international so it was the only one I applied to! If there were other vet schools in my area I definitely would have applied to them too!

Amanda, this puppy has one question. Is Ontario Veterinary College(OVC) allowing nowadays international students to apply also? This puppy now is studying English to enter Credit school first then qualified to apply OVC. Can you please give this puppy your precious advice for me?

I’m in 9th grade and it’s been my dream to become a equine vet , I don’t know what the steps are when becoming a vet and going into vet school. Like do I just get out of high school and go to vet school or is it more complicated than that?
@yourvetamanda
@yourvetamanda 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on where you live and what the application requirements are for vet schools in your area. In Canada, and specifically for OVC, you have to do at least 3 years of an undergraduate degree before you can get accepted into vet school! I would recommend looking at some of the schools near year, or find a couple veterinary programs you're interested in and see what they require for admission into the program! Hope this helps 😊
