The Eagles Feud
Watch "The Full Eagles Feud" story here: • The Eagles FEUD - The ...
With some bands, the story of their infighting became as much, if not more so, a part of their history than the music. Such is the case with the Los Angeles-born rock band the Eagles. The Eagles formed in 1971 when Linda Ronstadt recruited drummer Don Henley and songwriter Glenn Frey as her backup players. It was on tour then that Henley and Frey decided to form their own group. Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner, who were also close to Ronstadt and played with her at the time, were included in the lineup. Then, in 1974, Don Felder joined the band.
From 1974 until 2001, the Florida-born Felder served as the lead guitar player for the group. But in 2001, he was fired. Felder had been called in for a recording session in 1974 to add guitar to a couple of Eagles songs. Not long after, though, as the band moved from its country twang, slide-guitar style to more rock, Felder was asked to join the group as a fully-fledged member. Not long after in 1975, Leadon, who introduced Felder to the group, left the band famously pouring beer over Frey’s head before doing so.
The first album the band released with its new lineup was 1976’s Hotel California. Hotel California is one of the best-selling albums of all time. It has sold over 32 million copies worldwide, making it the band's second best-selling album after Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975). It has been ranked as one of the greatest albums of all time.
And who wrote the title track? Well, Felder, Henley and Frey as a trio. Felder wrote the music and the other two wrote the lyrics. Felder also plays the iconic guitar solo. Today, the song is the band’s most famous, among many hits.

How is that possible when Glenn Frey started the band and put it together personally picking all the members? He hired Don Felder specifically to take the Eagles to the rock level and that is exactly what happened. Felder(as usual, as he was hired by Glenn to do) would send Frey tapes filled with Instrumentals. It was Glenn who chose the “hotel California” instrumental to work on. You guys act like Felder came running w the Instrumental when in actuality, he had no clue he had a hit in his hands. Glenn did. A lot of the solos on the album are being played by Glenn when you all think it’s Felder too. I can’t imagine creating something and hiring someone specifically to help me with it only to have that person want to assume leadership over what I created just because he helped me😂😂😂😂. The world is insane. Felder’s voice changes the Eagles’ sound. That’s why if you do a fan poll he is at the bottom of the list for who THE FANS prefer to hear sing. Thank goodness Glenn Frey was smart enough to know that. If it weren’t for Glenn’s decisions, putting the fans as the priority, Eagles wouldn’t be the No 1 selling American band of all time. It’s also because of Glenn’s decisions that Americans can say that one of our bands places in the top 3 selling bands of all time among tons of British ones. I love Felder. He’s a genius guitarist, but he is not an Eagles frontman and that is an actual fact.

@@lunarsabbatical7906no one, and I mean no one makes a song by themselves. Stop discrediting them. This isn’t a clubhouse. Their job was to bring you great music and they did. You have no idea what kind of humans they were. Glenn Frey was a man who hired ppl to do a job and many of those ppl put themselves and their egos before the fans and what the fans wanted. It was Glenn’s band. Bernie didn’t want the band to go rock, wanted it to go country, assaulted Glenn and Glenn’s the problem? Randy liked to get drunk all the time, developed anxiety and refused to sing a fan favorite song and was nervous about singing onstage period and that’s Glenn’s problem? Felder gets hired specifically to play guitar and all of a sudden wants to sing lead songs in a band that already has lead singers just because HC went big and Glenn is your enemy? Glenn was a winner, a genius. You just need to Google who is the best selling American band of all time to know that.

Never be another time like the PEACEFUL easy flowing seventies. Back then in the innocents of growing up and smoking of some grass, no not the mowing kind. The munchies and the laughing, quickly followed, visine was nice too. Those five guys were some of the most beautiful faces any of us young chicks as we were called them had ever seen in our coming of age years. In my opinion they were then and now still one of the most iconic groups of all time. Love will keep us alive is one of my favorites. I really liked all of their music, in the mix of all the changing and maturity we were experiencing it's so memorable to when you hear their music it takes us back to that coming of age error, that flees so quickly. Those times may be long ago but the warmness of our hearts and the thoughts that our minds were going through, it's nice to remember their music played a big part in that time of our life's

There are leaders and followers. Frey and Henley were leaders. Felder a follower. Many of Felder's submitted riffs weren't good enough to become Eagles songs. Frey and Henley CHOSE that riff w/o any specific urging from Felder. Then those 2 created the lyrics w/o input from Felder that turned a riff into a classic rock masterpiece.

I was in a band for 10 years and after the 2 or 3rd year all band members have disagreements and pick and choose up sides as to which ones will stick with each other. It's a job and when you bring 4, 5, and 6 guys together that are all wanting to bring their creative side to the table it gets hairy. Arguments ensue and shit happens. But it's a job that's fun which is why I stuck around for a decade. Other than my child being born and the year's I spent with my ex-wife, entertaining people was the best part of my life.

Henley is the greatest lyricist/songwriter of our time- Never introduce Frey as “the songwriter” and Henley only as the drummer. Even Linda Ronstadt identified Henleys voice the first time she heard him sing also. That band is Nothing without him. Even Felder said the way Henley just comes up with these picture perfect “post card” snippets like “on a dark desert highway…” the second he hears a tune is extraordinary.R I P Glenn R I P Randy

Sad mistreatment of the other members of The Eagles by Don Henley, and Glenn Frey. It was intentional, and did undo justice as each member added their own personal touch/ style to the band. Greed makes people do things that they wouldn’t necessarily do under normal circumstances. I think it’s wonderful that they wanted to reach for the stars, and I truly appreciate every musical moment / memory they provided to me as a music lover since birth. However, once a “group” is formed credit should be given to all, outside of the writers as that’s a different matter. If one is not happy with the direction of a band, then they do have the option of leaving and going solo. I know most of the members attempted, but it shouldn’t have happened in the manner it occurred. Egos often aren’t often something that you can control…

The root of their problem was greed. Henley and Frey were the only real members. They should have made the other three full members and split the money equally. But Henley and Frey thought they were better and wanted more than they gave the others. Kinda sucked. I wasn't impressed with them until Hotel California came out. Without Felder, they wouldn't have made Hotel California.. They owed him alot for their success.

Not really. Their music could never be outdone by anything. Their music will go on forever while their petty immature scrabbling will be just that. They themselves allowed it to interrupt for years and finally the normal physical problems of sickness and age stopped any further progress. Immaturity, drugs and narcissism was their bands choice of suicide but their musical genius will overrride their childishness, pride and life's problems and live forever.

I remember watching a very long and detailed documentary on the eagles a few years ago...Glen Frey came across as very bullish, driven, egotistical ,creative , at times very edgy and unpleasant to listen to. Don Felder was pained by him as antagonistic and petty. What was overriding was the egos of frey and Henley... but then thats what drivrs bands to create and strive for perfection...drugs , addictions and overinflated egis always are their downfall though.
