Making this more of an accident, or something that Aemond wasn't actually trying to do but couldn't control Vhagar, was a great choice. Instead of writing it as Aemond did it on purpose.

Literally. If we go back to GOT, it has the same effect when in episode 4 of the eighth season, Euron Greyjoy connects a spear to Rhaegar's chest and then shoots through his neck with one or two shots. It was shocking.

“Battle” - a battle implies both parties are fighting each other. This is not a battle - it’s a man on the largest dragon in the entire world chasing a teenage boy on a dragon that’s only just big enough to ride. That’s not a battle, that’s Aemond hunting and “accidentally” murdering his nephew.

You can tell by the size difference of the dragons. Because he was raised in the Dragon Pit for the better part of a Decade, Arrax didn’t grow as large. Vhagar had the Dragonmont on Dragonstone. They had much larger space for the dragons to move around. The Pits in Kings Landing confided the dragons to small cramped caves.

Arrax was young and Vhagar was very old. She was the last dragon from Valyria so it's no wonder why she was very big. Arrax was just as young as Luke and I think Vhaggar is around 60? So that's a big difference.
