Aerate the Lawn. CORE AERATION. Raise a sprinkler head

I am getting ready to top-dress my lawn. This core aeration process is done right before top-dressing so I can backfill the holes with the sand from the top dressing. I am also showing how to raise a sprinkler head easily and very quickly.

Funny, my construction friend was telling me about you. I am 72 and love my yard. I have worked on it for 12 years. I am no where close to your excellence. We were laughing because I just ordered my lawn sprinkler system. It will be installed in 2 weeks. This will be a game change for me. I am obsessed with my lawn. It makes me happy!! Thanks for sharing

They keep sand moist because most applications of it need to be immediately compacted for various construction purposes. Plus if they drove down the road with dry sand, you'd pay for 15 tonnes, and have 2 tonnes blow away out the back before it got to you! All that said, I was still waiting to see one of those slabs just pop in two. Tehee!

I agree with everything you say in your video, especially since it is your lawn! One awesome compliment is using the type of aerator you used, it is chain driven (I believe) but has much more of the effect of hydrolic pressure. If your rental place has maybe a toro stand on available for rent, or since you are so loyal about your toro equipment maybe they should send you a shout out and send a rep with one to use for the day. Crank that pressure up and go deep (at least it would likely go deeper than Allyn, that is what she said). Time is always a concern for all, but aerate in two to three directions. The % of surface you are removing is so small that those who try to say don't remove the cores are idiots, plus about half of the total is organic material, the nitrogen you have used is absorbed much deeper than at about 1/4 inch (only Ryan has absorption problems in the 1/4 inch or shallower range, that is also what she said). Only thing I would do differently is aerate deeper and multiple times... if putting in the effort and especially following it up with the topdressing, aerify in three directions at least and if possible with hydrolic pressure twice a deep. It is a shame you cant find a topdresser in your area from a rental.
@wayneessar7489
@wayneessar7489 4 жыл бұрын
It is a reciprocator. The Billy goat models have a choice of two solid and two hollow tines. It will aerate hot asphalt roads if you let it. The Toros and other don't allow you to choose tine type or diameter.
@andrewkirwan517
@andrewkirwan517 4 жыл бұрын
@@wayneessar7489 at no time is he using a solid tine.... solid tine, or pencil tines should only be used in sports turf applicatoins with a PAT substructure or a USGA spec green, tee, or fairway. Homeowner application of solid tine is useless.
@wayneessar7489
@wayneessar7489 4 жыл бұрын
@@andrewkirwan517 I am guessing that your information comes from reading advertising about machines and from companies that don't offer needle or solid tines as an option. Or perhaps your area is not on sandy soil because Sir you are incorrect. Solid or shatter tines are an excellent fall choice in warmer winter areas as they aid drainage without surface disturbance. Mr. Ward is seeking to remove organic matter so of course he will hollow core. Please come and see how we use them here, if your allowed to travel outside your borders at some time.
@andrewkirwan517

I can travel anywhere I would like sir. I don't read advertising about machines. I have a masters degree in sports turf management and have done grow in an opening of 14 different golf resorts (total of 17 courses in those 14 resorts) in 13 different countries.

Right now I run it through a iron breaker but the water is so hard that my sprinklers are rusting after 2 months of use or less. Keep up the good work!
