Bout time this comes out! Lol I did the stage 1 cam, springs, pushrods, lifters from texas speed and the che trunion upgrade along with an e85 flex fuel sensor and got the truck tuned. Runs awesome and very happy to have removed a faulty lifter from the stupid dod/afm 4/8! Good luck with the truck!

My 2013 Silverado started making the clacking sound from a failed lifter and after talking to my brother (GM mechanic), he told me to do an AFM/DOD delete. I watched your videos and decided to go with the stage 1 from Texas Speed. I'm waiting on backordered parts currently (been 3 weeks now), so hopefully they will get my parts out soon. They recommended I send the ECM/PCM to a guy down in Texas to re-flash for the specific kit I bought, so I still need to do that as well. But looking forward to having my truck back (hopefully soon) and thank you so much for all of your information in these videos!! You guys are awesome!

Happy the videos helped! I personally would recommend funding a local tuner for your truck that can actually measure your Air to Fuel ratio coming out of the tailpipe or with a wideband if you have one. You will get much better tuning results that way. If they just do a stock flash they are just guesstimating how your truck will behave based on other tunes. Now, I am not as familiar with the previous gen before my truck (2013 and older) so maybe there is a reason the modules need to be pulled in which case that sounds like a good plan.

And here is my big question - in the comments I saw this is with the "second motor". Sorry if I missed a video, I thought I watched them all. But I got a 16 silverado 5.3 that needs engine replacement (It's knocking hard, sometimes doesnt start). Did your initial 5.3 from the intial build videos work?

The motor worked but I was sent the wrong heads and they damaged the block :(

Wish I would of seen this video sooner lol ! I cammed my truck 2 years ago watching your video and it’s been about 2 years now since I’ve been having that knocking sound coming which I thought was the water pump I’ve looked everywhere to find a fix well now I know I have my head gasket backwards I hope i didn’t do to much damage to my engine I’ve added about 10k Miles since the cam install… Do you know if he had both on backwards? Or was it just one side ?

Very informative video. This sure seems like an expensive and complicated to delete the AFM. I would have to let my mechanic do this for me if I ever decide to do this. He has 47 years experience as a mechanic.

Put your truck in L then shift to 5…that turns it off

@@maxhardy3549 Yea that’s the only issue is when on the interstate doing 80 or so, then I shift into L6. I think I might get the Range AFM delete it’s only about 200 bucks

@@TheSundaeDrive Long story short, put the BFD Cam by TSP and and have vowed to piston clearance issues ever since and vacuum issues news which led to another rebuild and cam. This engine is a nightmare

Stuck in between a Rock and a Hard place. My 07 Denali XL Lifter failed on me few weeks ago. Tryna decide to buy a low mile motor, or just have the shop install Ls7 Lifters. But they want $3,000 to replace lifters on Driver side. That is where tick is coming from. She got 350k but I bought her at 280k Havent even really put alot of miles on her with the 5 yrs Ive owned her.

Hmmm that's a tough decision. 350 is a lot of miles but 3K just to change lifters is too much. Are they charging the camshaft too?

put good oil in it and do changes on time and DOD won't be a problem

I wish that was the case but while it can help, sadly doesn't prevent the failure several commented that they did oil changes ever 3K miles and still had failures.

Thanks for showing me this stuff. I was wondering if all these things you have done will be mostly the same on a 2012 chevrolet silverado 4.8L crew cab truck as well? no problem at all! thanks for following along! It will be similar but pretty sure there are some differences. There are some other videos linked in the descriptions of the other videos in this series and they show and older engine being deleted. That channel has a lot of good content when you find those links. Should be in the first few videos in the series under reference / source material.

Quick question Is it possible for a brand new engine to have the head gasket installed incorrectly? Have a 2022 6.2 with a few hundred miles and the sound on the video sounds identical to what I can hear on my truck. Just my knocking sound isn’t as loud yet.

I suppose it is possible, that would be pretty crazy if it was the case. Most likely a lifter collapsed tho and you are heading that. Definitely let us know what the issue ended up being !

And as for the shifting issues have you replaced your atf with amsoil signature series? Mine used to shift like hell and this stuff seemed to improve it quite a bit.

I'll throw something on our instagram in the near future for you. Not ready to make full KZfaq video on it but I can put on on Instagram. it sounds very stock at idle right now because the full exhaust including the cats are stock. I also swapped back to the stock airbox until I can Dyno it.

They work well and staying out of v4 mode, but don't replace the faulty design of the lifters which still fail :( I wish it was that simple.

Do all V8's with "fuel saving" features have this problem? started with my RAM and MDS, lifter failed and ruined the cam, I figured it was a 5.7 hemi thing, now that Im getting a silverado, it seems like every manufactuerer tried to bring in a system that can ruin the engine over time.

How many miles was on engine when the AFM lifter failed?

Did not fail. Failure often can destroy the motor so I was deleting it pre-emptively. If you are lucky it is just a lifter swap but many are not so lucky. I ran into other issues tho lol

@@TheSundaeDrive Funny, I lost my 2014 RAM due to lifer failer that ruined the cam, but literally nobody can really confirm if the MDS was the cause, it sounds like a very similiar system though. I wanted to pull it apart to fix it, but I traded it to a friend for a 2016 silverado, which is also going to need engine removal and help.. thanks to your vids, we will see how it goes XD

@@TheSundaeDrive yes was a spark plug issues but now it threw p0011 the ecm was sent out to get dod removed but I don’t think actual tuning was done but I replaced cam with stock non dod cam do you think tuning is still required

Not sure why they would have sent out your ecm since it can just be tuned out remotely unless it's a newer locked ecm. Tuning is a good idea whenever something major is changed. Need to account for the new phaser limiter as well

@@TheSundaeDrive yes new phaser was installed and I’m assuming switching out cam shaft position sensor and actuator would really do anything if it isn’t tune ? I’ll call around today to see how much it is to tune in my area

And the ecm was sent to ams racing they flash your ecm so that you don’t have to have disabler plugged in to your obd port but I know there is also other tuners like Diablo and others that you don’t need to have them plugged in but whatever the case I’ll call the speed shops in my area

Question if GM is making non DOD vehicles due to the conductors shortages. Are they just using the same parts and just turning off the DOD system. Knowing GM there not putting in different cams and lifters. So why should anyone else spend money on a DOD kit if GM is using the same old DOD parts?

You guessed it! Unfortunately they still came will all the DOD hardware but the 4 cylinder mode was deactivated. They just ran on V8 mode all the time as they didn’t have the program to run on V4 mode. I believe this happened in some of the 2019 models. Typical GM.

If I’m understanding it correctly the lifters will still fail. Even though the computer is running a non AFM DOD program. Personally I’m still trying to learn everything I can about this . But from my research just flashing the program is a bandaid. The lifters will fail and when they do it will send fine metal throughout the motor. Wiping out crank bearings and at that point your into a complete rebuild. Very messed up problem that I want to blame GM for. But as I have researched more GM wasn’t responsible for this change in the LS motors. They were forced into it via government regulations to lower emissions.
