Afghan horsemen play in the grand final of the buzkashi championships. Buzkashi, meaning "dragging the goat" in Persian, is the country's traditional national sport, in which teams of horsemen fight for possession of - traditionally - a beheaded animal carcass. These days a 30-kilogram stuffed leather bag resembling a carcass is used instead, but the skills required to compete remain the same.

Buzkadhi is really spectacular sport in Afghanistan. It really gives you excitement and energy when you watch it closely on the ground. It is most popular gsme in the north.

I love how some of them are wearing Russian Tanker helmets! Got to watch a game when I was in Kandahar, you'd be shocked at how brutal it is!

Its streamed on a channel called RTA Sports and on KZfaq. RTA is Afghanistan's state owned television channel.

Yes, you are right. Buzkadhi is really spectacular sport to watch in Afghsnistan. I really enjoyed from nearby in the ground while horses running swiftly in a speed you get more enjoy ,it is really amazing game.

They don't use a real animal anymore, it's a 30kg stuffed leather bag that resembles a sheep. The Taliban banned the use of a real animal.

Not the Taliban but its federation. It wanted it to be more appealing to other countries. It also has rules while in the past in was very informal

They allow it now, because they replaced the carcas with a leather bag. It is not allowed in Islam to make an animal suffer for entertainment.

This sport was banned in 2001 but now they have allowed it but they have banned the use of a real animal. Now it's a 30kg stuffed leather bag that resembles a sheep. The Taliban banned the use of a real animal.

@@aeton7511 If riding a horse is cruelty riding a car is 10x more cruel to the nature. Horse are born with the ability to carry weight. And, we riding it from very very ancient age.
