Wow that was some attack you can tell Petrov was very talented player confident in his abilities to checkmate even with a Queen sac love the way he involved all his other pieces in the checkmating pattern Bishops Knight and Rook even pawns helping out taking escape squares away from the white king Thanks for the Game Enjoy your Day Agadmator

Seeing the knight maneuvers around the e6 pawn during the mating sequence before going for the queen sacrifice was the most impressive part imo. To see that you can give white a free move in the middle of all the checks after the black knight captures on e6 and still be forcing a checkmate is wildly strong.

HOW DID HE SEE ALL THAT! WTH
@StupidusMaximusTheFirst
@StupidusMaximusTheFirst 4 ай бұрын
Ok, while I can't know for sure, nor the time they had available, chances are he didn't. This is kind of a myth, where chess players see so far ahead and calculate things in precision. That's not really how it goes. Obviously sacrificing a queen is quite the odds, but chess players especially at this level, they can tell there is a checkmate there, whether it's in a few moves or 12 as in that case, it doesn't matter, you kinda know. Also, those long move checkmates... if you know there is a checkmate with less moves, then ok, you might check a couple of more moves whether the opponent "escapes", it's usually gonna be either way too costly for them or maybe there is no escape. not to mention that they would need to play super accurate to get checkmated that late, and they know they are gonna be checkmated as well, so there. Psychology is not gonna be with you if you are defending this, as for attacking, most chess players don't really calculate that far, they are relying on intuition and yes, sometimes they take risks. Michael Tal used to say "There are correct sacrifices, and mine." as if to say his attacking sacrifices were wrong if the opponent was accurate, and maybe that's true, who knows. Or maybe he wanted to emphasise what I am telling you, that they don't really calculate anything or not much at least. I realise people don't really like to attribute anything to intuition cause they don't understand it, and can't calculate it, truth is, it's in everything you do or don't do, including chess.
@venpaii4562
@venpaii4562 4 ай бұрын
@@StupidusMaximusTheFirst I mean that's really interesting thank you for the read haha. It's true that chess players also rely on pattern recognition for example which atributes to the intuition you mentioned. Anyway the game still made me wonder!

@lukemarks3281
@lukemarks3281 4 ай бұрын
@@dan7291able king would not be recaptured on the next turn when capturing a piece protected by a pinned piece. There's no actual danger of king capture, which Check symbolizes... sort of. If, say that pinned piece is pinned to its own king, and captures the opponent's king, then the opponent would then capture their king. So the real reason your king can't capture a piece protected by a pinned piece is not for your own safety, but theirs... lol
@marshalmoyo2408
@marshalmoyo2408 4 ай бұрын
It's illegal to capture a piece protected even by a pinned piece and it is in fact for your own safety not your opponent's. Say you take the opponent's said piece, then your king can be "captured", even opening up their king to your own attack but guess what, it doesn't matter and you lose because by the time your king is captured, the game is over and it doesn't matter if their own king is exposed. Simply put, if all pieces were freed and a king could be captured, in this situation yours goes first. So legally you cannot actually capture such a piece
