@mao-janlin6751
@mao-janlin6751 5 ай бұрын
In chess960, the king and the rook end up in the same position as normal chess. What you said is the castling rule of chess480, where king moves two squares to the edge and the rook jump beside the king. There are less possible starting position in chess480, because the castling is symmetric, so there are mirrored starting position. While the chess960 gets asymmetric castling.

I really think castling should not exist in 960. It makes no sense in so many of the variations. I do not know the origins of tge rule but I assume it was made as a kind of time saver as both players would use 3-4 moves to get their kings to safety. Half of the positions tge king is already in a corner or gets there with one move. I just dont like it.

This Tounament is exactly the proof we needed that chess960 is the better chess. Games cannot be ruined by opening theory, you have to think from the very first move. And this comes from someone who study openings a lot btw, the reason I study the openings is so I can punish those who neglect it. But if both players can’t prep an opening then the game is always leveled from the start as it should be

Yep. All it would take is a few marquee players to form a 960 league/tour for a year or so and it would take off. Just needs some money behind it. Opening theory and engines have mortally wounded standard chess - for me anyway.

The heart rate monitors are completely bogus. In physical sports, at the elite level (i.e. NBA, Premier League, NHL, etc) even at maximal exertion, the HR hovers around 150-160. That's with max. physical exertion. Absolutely NO WAY you can get the heart rate that high, sitting down, and playing a chess game.

2nd: agad what's your opinion of classical armageddon w/ auction as tiebreaker? Part1of2 - main idea Both Magnus & Wesley agree that chess960 is not suited to rapid/blitz hence why freestyle chess exists in the 1st place. Therefore, the tiebreaks must be not - rapid then blitz then blitz armageddon ( but it's good your armageddon even for 5min white has auction! I wish st louis chess club did ) - but - classical armageddon w/ auction like white gets 120min or can be just 60min and then they bid for black. Generally I'm known to have a huge bias against Magnus Carlsen, but this tournament for me is the 1 thing Magnus is doing right: Magnus is setting up classical with minimum 120min+ without consecutively repeating starting positions ( as fide had hypocritically insisted on doing ). I hope Magnus will make the right decision for this tournament. An armageddon with 120min+ for white might be too long, but there IS precedence of a 60min+ Armageddon won by Gata Kamsky in an old USCC in 2010 and even in 2013.
@nicbentulan
@nicbentulan 5 ай бұрын
Part2of2 - Why I think Bobby Fischer would like armageddon Well Bobby Fischer was preaching about pre-arrangement but I don't think increments & 9LX are enough to solve this. I think we have to look to xiangqi where their armageddon has auction and was invented by a player named Ronghua Hu known as - surprise surprise - the Bobby Fischer of Chinese chess! So I think Bobby would like Armageddon (w/ auction) w/c makes every game fair & decisive. - Plus in particular, bids for black in 9LX go like 12min/15min while in chess they're like 9min/15min since 9LX doesn't have as many draws or as much white advantage (except in computers). - Both Magnus & Wesley believe 9LX isn't suited to rapid/blitz. So all the more classical 9LX should have classical tiebreaks. Armageddon w/ auction makes every game fair & decisive. I believe this'd mean - A - no more draws but in a good way not in a no stalemate way. And a fortiori no pre-arranged draws - B - no more rapid tiebreaks. You can play chess w/o Armageddon and then settle classical matches w/ classical tiebreaks - C - Can have best-of-1 knockouts - D - All single round robins & single swiss are fair. - E - There's no more issue of drawing a best-of-4 by compensating for a white loss with a white win & 2 black draws like in 2016 & 2023 classical wcc's where Sergey & Nepo had more black wins than Magnus & Liren. I notice these 3 improvements of Bobby - 9LX - Increment - Armageddon (w/ auction) Are used more in rapid than classical but they should be used more in classical! They also eliminate the top 3 worst things about classical-time classical-variant chess: 1 - theory 2 - dirty flag 3 - draws
