It is, I often just bravely play some weird king moves (by normal standards) and normally don't even castle when I was younger... But after I learn how people prefer castling and applying to my games, I'm playing weaker chess than my younger self lol (I'm never getting used to playing positional chess lol, I can, but I play too solid and too slow instead lol)

Reminds me of that variation in the Fried Liver Attack where the king has to trot out to the center of the board just to hang on to his material lead. The objective at that point being to consolidate while thwarting the enemy onslaught and then mobilizing his own pieces so he can finally enjoy his material advantage.

It should have worked. Also it should have had a final bail out option. If all else failed, Vidit should have been able to turn it into a knight and 2 pawns vs 4 pawns ending, which may or may not be winning, but it would still be better than getting slaughtered by queen, 2 rooks and a knight

At 7:12 I would have played Rag1 forcing the black queen to Qh4, then sacrifice the rook with check on Rg7, and after Kg7, Rg1 check again. No way back for the black king, so it has to come out to Kf6 or Kh6, and I would attack it with the white queen and the remaining rook.

Is it possible that something non-chess related was responsible for the 45 minutes that Black spent on his seemingly pedestrian Bishop move? Like, being indisposed in the restroom or something like that? If something like that does happen during a game, I'm assuming there's nothing in traditional chess annotation that would show the reason for the long delay? (I guess the reason something like this occurs to me is that my wife has Crohn's Disease, and through a Crohn's charity she volunteers for I've met some well-known people like Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, and I've heard a few stories about how unaccommodating the world can be to someone who needs to run off to the bathroom on a few seconds' notice, and spend like a half hour there-- even someone famous.)

Nodirbek had something planned after his dxe5, which offered a queen trade and a give-away of his castling privilege. Vidit spent a lot of his time calculating what would happen if he accepted this line. Im surprised Agad did not cover this unplayed line. It seemed significant.

#Suggestion 1950 game between Bogoljubow and Trott Featured in the 11 minute animated film "War Is Over". It was inspired by John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1971 peace anthem "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)". The short film was created by son Sean Ono Lennon and director Dave Mullins. It is set in an alternate WWI reality where two soldiers on opposite sides of the conflict play a game of chess. The game used in the film was suggested by chess historian Edward Winter, and has a highly unusual ending.

Obviously the rook couple is at 100% power (both attack and defense) if they are connected and the king will eventually go to d4 to hide under Nd5 so there is no point to play Ra4. Fairly speaking, it's still a playable move but a Grandmaster will never think that way.
