Hi, I think I'm now confused, during that biceps exercise you said the biceps only perform flexion, if the person ends the exercise before the end of the range, is it not supposed to be the extensor-triceps that is having a problem unable to full shorten to extend the arm?

Yes Amelia, it can be very confusing. Are we speaking of the resting state of the muscle or the working state of the muscle, which is under tension (contraction). When a muscle is contracted fully, it shortens. And when it it is at rest it lengthens. The problem is when they are opposing one another to balance arm position. The best way to figure out where problems of concentric and eccentric imbalances is to pretend to cut the tendon off of one of the muscles. What would happen to the arm? What function could the arm do if the biceps brachii was severed? Could the triceps push the forearm into flexion? The answer would be no. Hope this helps.

@@hollandmassagereflexology2000 when you were demonstrating the biceps curl exercise you said that some people do it wrong, they don't full extend the elbow which might injure the biceps due to overuse how are the biceps overused here?

@@amelialanga1877 They don't want to use the most distal aspect of their muscle belly which would allow for a full stretch. They only want to use the center fibers which get overworked. Why? Because that's the most difficult part of concentric work. They don't allow for full rang of motion because it is difficult. Example: Ever see someone squat a barbell and not go all the way down? Its because the bottom of the hole is where the muscle is fully elongated and difficult to come out of. Thus people overwork the the proximal fibers and create muscle imbalance's.
