Petrucite has been determined to be too valuable to be used outside weapons development, Tiberium is a No-Go as we don't want the Scrin showing up Again on another planet (and it's also too slow) and the Life-Eater virus is is too quick, too unstable to transport safely and we don't have enough of it for a planet killer event, yet.

If 'r-type' sounds familiar it's what the Bydo Empire used in the R-Type games - the R-series of fighters, of which Humanity only had a handful of ironically represents k-type reproduction; having a small number of offspring and investing care into them.

it's pretty easy to imagine the thoughts processes: If it's smaller than a god, there is hope, so we only need to fight hard enough to kill it. If it's a god there is no hope. so we lose nothing by fighting as hard as we can and just maybe something we do will harm it.

We're predisposed to feel affection towards, or at the very least protective of, small child-like creatures, which is also probably the reason dogs have "puppy dog eyes". Ultimately makes sense when you realize that as a species, we don't breed that rapidly, so every small infant is to be guarded fiercely. And if something kills a human child, then responding in kind, while it may not save that tribe of people, will send a message to whatever did that, which will increase the survival rate of other tribes. T'is truly a fascinating thing.

I don't think they have watched enough human entertainment media because I doubt it will be enough. Unconditional surrender should be the first part that they send out if they are truly serious about wanting to quench the rage. Then when can discuss who is going to be put on trial for war crimes and writing up a proper treaty.

..every single Human colony would then mobilize to "Vape the bastards!" and the story would be quite similar. Except our alien allies wouldn't be bothering to try to stop us Humans from having our revenge - they'd be worried about 'getting any on them' and just hoping we'd calm down after the Bad Aliens were all drifting wreckage and colored splotches on the terrain.

I find it odd that these alien species just disregard the value of children so much. It makes me wonder what biological processes they must have that would influence their culture to where they just say "eh, make some more, no big!" Must be a creature used to insanely large clutches of offspring that have a high mortality rate.

They might be R-type breeders. Or they have shorter gestation or rearing times. Or their young are better equipped to take care of themselves. Plenty of potential reasons.

Most animals are pretty well self sufficient within hours or days, if not immediately. But for humans especially, our heads are so big due to our brain:body ratio that we have to be born early in order to fit. So, technically, *all* humans are born premature and that's why we're so helpless as infants for so long, compared to other animals. As a result, we developed a super strong bonding process to compensate. Even other animals on our own planet don't have quite as ramped up young bonding as humans. There's a rather well known video of a deer that gives birth and immediately bounces when a panther jumps in, abandoning the newborn calf in the process.

Hive minds just wouldent care. losing one member of ther rase. Is just like clipping a fingenale to the hive mother. As for pry animals death would be such a consent that they wouldn't bother morning. Or they could be like reptiles with a binary brain. Wile living, the baby is a fellow whatever. But the moment it dies its just so much meat. Their psyche doues not allow the two separate thoughts to co mingle.

I wonder at what point they start caring? The POV character talks about people knowing their name and deeds, so they clearly have individuality and some sense of self preservation. How old do they need to be before a child becomes something worth protecting?

Whats funny is that Khorne actually would send hounds to murder a baby killing xeno. Khorne is also the God of Justice and Honesty... He seeks the blood and skulls of the greatest champions, killing something incapable of fighting and still calling yourself a warrior is one of the greatest insults to Khorne.

@@Makorze Nah, Khorne hates everyone and everything. The reason why combat interests him is because he can watch those he hates (everyone) destroy themselves. Though he would indeed disapprove of murdering a defenseless baby, it wouldn't be because of a sense of justice, rather, it would be because the baby wouldn't be able to try and destroy the murderer back. Thus, the baby would die without rage and bloodthirst in their heart, freeing their soul of Khorne's grasp, something Khorne would seriously disapprove of.

@@sethgilcrist8088 Depends on the gun. There were a lot of pistols specifically designed to be used as clubs when empty, and they aren't that bad at it. Bayonets were not initially adopted, for hundreds of years firearms were instead carried with an arming sword or saber for close combat. Also, I think you missed the point of my comment. Any civilization with guns could eventually stick a blade at the end of it. But to still be doing that while being involved in interstellar warfare? People thought they were no longer useful in the year 1900, could they still be used in the year 2900?

Couldn't help but shed a tear myself imagining the crying, shot, and screaming that ensued. Thank God they provided ships, otherwise in sure we would have found a way to ram their home planet with earth itself. Edit: I still think about this story over a year after first hearing it. Simply imagining the screaming audio coming over the loudspeakers and communication networks would be more than enough to make me see red as the dropship doors open to disgorge it's feral cargo.

It's that part I love in humanity. "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorn" is a mere dip in the sand compared to what we will do to defend our young. We as a species cherish the next generation in hopes they learn from our mistakes but also willing to repeat our actions to ensure the same for the generation after them. If you kill our young, you threaten our species as a whole and thus mark yourselves a danger to our survival. Consider it like this; When in the middle of a baboon troop, don't scare the babies.
