If you turn down the drive control on the Tonehammer it will sound closer to the AG.

Are you able to emulate the AG sound with the tweeking of the EQ settings on the TH? I like the sound of the AG better in your vids but if I can get the same tone with the TH that is less expensive that would be great. Thanks.

Thanks a lot, i have TH500 for one year now with DB410 8o, fantastic combo but it still missed something that i need in my sound. And AG700 has it !! Great!

No, you need to find the OG Aguilar 410, the GS410 that is no longer in production due to the extreme weight; 148lbs. But it killed my 810 cabs when comparing the volume alone and being ported the cab goes much lower. Those are reasons enough to justify the weight for me but I don’t know of any other cab I’ve played through that has the bottom end and the hifi tone in one single 4ohm cabinet. Seriously you won’t regret it..if you can find one.
@ethanlancaster764 жыл бұрын
Or add another 8ohm cab you really like to get your amp down to a 4ohm load. These amps really like being at 4ohms and the tone is noticeable to me. ✌️

I wish they would put the direct out in the back of the amp .. it’s weird for it to be in the front in the way

which type of cabinet can be paired with the AG? or must i say, how much wattage need a cabinet to be paired with the AG 700?
@ruslanshalintsev4793 Жыл бұрын
The AG700 + Warwick = the best pair for me. The Fodera with AG700 sounds sterile, dont like it. In passive mode in the bridge pickup Fodera sounds the most interesting. To me The Fodera sounds With the TH500 better overall. The passive jazz bass sound wick and chip after Warwick. Sonds like rubber strings with not pleasant dirt. Great playing and great comparison! Thanks!

Mornin Can you tell me what the fan noise is like? Using a svt head now, and the fan is silly loud for micing the cab… looking for a bass head whose fan noise is negligible…. Thanks for any info on that.
@dr_bassius3 жыл бұрын
Morning! On my th the fan is present but not annoying. A simple, gentle, noise gate would eliminate most of if not all interference. Since this video, I have sold my AG 😅 and got the th700
@ethanlancaster764 жыл бұрын
Check out the GK Legacy! It’s more expensive but you can get the GK tone of the 800rb and the tones of both the TH and the AG as well. Best new amp on the market imho
@CheckDaClaws3 жыл бұрын
How do you figure the GK legacy get's Aguilar tone hammer or AG tones?
@ethanlancaster763 жыл бұрын
@@CheckDaClaws because I do it with no problem at least a few times a week doing session work 200+ days out of the year and I have more experience with the GK circuitry than the average person but I am not alone in getting any tone that is needed for the engineers to work at the board with a blend of a mic’d cab and the DI because I see every other bass player doing it that is experienced enough to make a good career from studio work
@CheckDaClaws3 жыл бұрын
@@ethanlancaster76 I see your point. But when I tried a Legacy and a Tone Hammer 500 at the store, I found the Legacy to be considerably dryer (thinner) sounding and basically just had less mid content. I haven't tried the AG 700 yet, but it seems like it has more of the politeness that the Tone Hammer has.
@ethanlancaster763 жыл бұрын
@@CheckDaClaws well I think it ultimately comes down to the player’s ear and tone is absolutely subjective but it’s also absolutely possible to get a tone from the Legacy that is not too dissimilar from the Aguilar TH but the way that you can most easily find it is maybe not the most obvious or common unless you have a good amount of time to get used to tweaking it with the contour switches instead of depending solely on the EQ section. Also the gain staging is extremely important if you are looking to get in the Tone Hammer’s wheel house and especially when you’re using the drive knob that is after the gain setting in the preamp of the TH. I find that the TH is more colored than the AG and it is really good at getting that slightly saturated tube amp bite but very much like the GK it has a naturally scooped midrange that is more present as it gets louder and the AG is more flat with more headroom and even less similar than the GK thing in my opinion. But I still have no doubt that I can make any of the three amps do whatever I need to get a tone that will work in the majority of situations that I would be in either live or in the studio. I also use an active DI box for my passive basses and I also have used the Sansamp RBI in the studio for the past two decades so I have a few go to options for the situations that I need something that may not even necessarily be what I would like for my tone personally but I think is best for the song which may not be anything but getting my signal up to line level before hitting the console and let the engineer take it from there and get the tone that fits the situation best afterwards. Regardless you can’t really go wrong with any of those amps honestly and whatever gear you have the most confidence in and you feel the most comfortable with is what you should use and if you find something that it’s not working on you can fall back on using a good direct injection box for a tone that is easy for the engineer to use the tools and gear that he has. And it may just be a different amp that most places are likely to have anyway. I guess my point is that there are many ways to an end and that the majority of the modern amps can get you there or pretty darn close at the very least.

Do you have to have a cabinet or load box connected to the amp head when playing?
@dr_bassius Жыл бұрын
No. You can go direct. The circuit can detect if there’s any load and disengages the power amp. It’s just the pre etc now
@Jim_Cox Жыл бұрын
So, if you had to get rid of two, which would you keep? Or which would you recommend for a first purchase knowing you could add another later? AG700, TH500 (or TH700), DB751

At this point, because I’ve owned them all, th700.

@@dr_bassius thanks! I made an offer on a used AG700 but if that's rejected I think I'll grab a new TH 700. I have an old Ampeg B5R but it's got some weird noises, low output, and scratchy pots. I'm just not sure it's worth sending to a tech. I might have to make it a project and just tear it apart myself. In the meantime everything about Aguilar seems positive. 🙂
