As a 5 time combat retired veteran, the things we have to do weighs on us heavily but what we can't understand is how 1 second you can be sitting there joking with your buddy, the next they are gone, and we wonder why we survived it. Survivors guilt is what really gets to us because in our minds, it's not fair and we think we aren't good enough for their sacrifice and would rather it have been us. Thanks for your respect and to all my brothers and sisters, I love you so much!

I'm not a veteran myself but that line, as you said, stings. I can't fucking imagine what that guy goes through. "Please, let me trade", because in his eyes *he* should be the one who's gone. *He* should've stepped on that explosive. It's heartbreaking.

Both versions are obviously different but they have the same message. I love both versions and can relate to both of them. Two combat tours with loss of life are enough for anyone. BTW, in 2003 I was on the military security detail in Afghanistan when FFDP met the troops. I know firsthand that they back the military 110%. They're some awesome guys and treated everyone with the utmost respect.

My Husband is also a Veteran. Took him awhile to integrate back into normal society after 21yrs. 1997-2018. The reason he joined was to provide for a Daughter he had coming, and growing up poor, he really had no other good options. He has been to Iraq, Afghanistan, but that's all he really says. He gave ALL of his uniforms, medals, and letters from her Mother, to his Daughter. He very rarely talks of any of it.

Its interesting how the video shows so much about what happened to the one soldier. How friends he had good times with, and he joined the service together with the same purpose in mind. How all but him were killed in the convoy, and how much it was destroying him. Then his realization that he get either keep feeling bad all the time, or he could stand back up and go back to the war he and his friends were in ...and keep fighting the battle they all pledged to each other and our country to fight. When looking at the end of tut he video he gets out of the vehicle as we see some new recruits... ...very young men in the service. It eludes to him being a seasoned soldier who will be helping the younger soldiers in ways only a seasoned combat soldier can. The seriousness on his face, and the fear on theirs. It's as if he was meant to go back to train them better on the battlefield, and be a mentor...not only a commander. One might also(if one is religiously minded) note that it gives a renewal of spirit for him to return to finish what he and his friends went to fight for. The video has quite a bit of forethought to it. Very well written and performed.

While I agree with many here that "Coming Down" from FFDP has a great message and it's a good song - massive trigger warning. For you but also for potential viewers. In Germany, where I am, there are restrictions in place before you can start the video and there is a link to a helpline. It's there for a reason and please take it serious in case this could be relevant to you (I don't know you well enough to judge that).

As a former combat medic, and veteran in the second gulf war this song hits really close to home. I still struggle with thoughts of self destruction. I still struggle with substance abuse. I cry at times when it's inappropriate. I still seek pain and penance for the sins I committed. When you have time and distance you realize you weren't human then. You were an animal. Driven solely by survival. And you did what it took. But that makes it no easier I still seek pain...I still seek numbness, I still seek an end to it all. I go to therapy a few times a week. And you know you have guilt. You lived and they died. You have to fight for your place to live every fucking day. It's not easy.

I'm a vet myself but I thankfully have never seen combat. Two of my best friends growing, one went Marines and one went Army Special Forces and while both thankfully came back they came back haunted by what they saw and/or did. I can only imagine. But I do know the words "gone away" resonate on the level of just being away from ones family. I'm sure it resonates on a different level with those that would never see their family again. This song to my knowledge was originally done by The Offspring on their 1997 Ixnay on the Hombre album. I don't think they covered it from another band but FFDP covered it from them. Anyways, I used to have that album and they never did a video to the song (to my knowledge). So riding around listening to it in the CD player.... associating it with loss in general definitely pulled on my heartstrings.

If you don't understand the meaning of that song it's about two brothers who want the war because of 911 and he lost his brother and this band wrote a tribute song we always got remember the following remember the ones who fight for free they do not just him because they can't live with what they did cuz they did for everyone it takes a special kind of man or woman to put their life on the line every day so we can be free and will you meet them on the street when you become homeless shake their hands say thank you

The big reason they do these videos and speak up about the issues veterans face is because the lead singer Ivan Moodey was in the Marines himself, so he has seen this first hand. They not only send out a powerful message but also donate a lot of their proceeds to veteran organizations. Great respect for them as a band and big respect to all the veterans.

Thank you to your father for his service! It is a source of great pride for any of us that come from military families or those who have served. I have said before and I will say here, being handed that folded flag is an experience no family should ever experience. For those of us who have risked coming home beneath the flag, we take it very personal when anyone disrespects that flag. This song and video hit me incredibly hard as I actually lost one of my best friends to suicide after they served. It is such an incredible sacrifice they make to keep us safe and they tolls it takes do not go away easily.

My father is a Vietnam vet. I love the way you talk about the current situations that your own father has been in. My Dad only refers to Vietnam as the place he was.

Have to fully agree 👍 I'm a uk Veteran. My son served in Afghanistan. Also I attended a good friend's funeral this week. Music is the best form of emotional expression and can say it all.

Young lady, your dad has done an awesome job of instilling in you the sacrifices that the military does. As a veteran, I really respect young people like you. I have raised all three of my sons to respect the military and the flag for which they fight for. Thank you.

This one really hit for me. I heard it first on the radio and sometimes I like to think of a video I'd make for it when I'm listening to a song. For some reason, I imagined almost the exact music video they made. Blew my mind the first time I watched it...

As a veteran of 12 years and 2 deployments for me and most I'm still in touch with there's always a longing to go back despite what we went thru...I was a gunner for convoy escort and I've never felt normal since returning home and it contributed to my divorce after I returned. My kids give me purpose but not a day goes by that I dont wish I was back for some reason.

@@TexasVeteranPatriot Slava Ukraini! Putin is the real Nazi. Zelinsky and his Prime Minister are both Jewish so we know who the Nazi is. My Grandfather and Grandmother left Ukraine in 1939 to come to America because Hitler was about to invade Poland. He left 3 weeks before the invasion of Poland! If not for that I'd have been born in Ukraine and probably suffering with my brethren. I wish I was physically able to defend Ukraine. If you do go do me a HUGE FAVOR - COME HOME ALIVE!

And don't sweat the divorce I'm on divorce 3 right now (this one lasted 20 years before my girls told me to leave her). You are not alone reach out if you ever need to. NEVER FORGOTTEN USMC

The beginning is exactly what happened to a friend of mine. He was in a vehicle that hit an IED, just moments earlier a vehicle in front went right over it, where they hit it. My friend and 4 others were killed instantly.
