The three bracelets were KIA bracelets for the three he lost. I have five. I wanted to go back, but after the IED strike, I went a little mental and was refused return and retired. There are 22 veterans a day committing suicide, depicted in his basement scene, but they didn't stop, unfortunately. Appreciate your reaction; I really do.

As a veteran, first, it's hard enough with personal depression and suicide. But it's even harder because you have survivor's guilt. Way back in 2012, my brother came home, after serving 4½ years as a United States Marine. It was all good at first. Then I got to talking to him -- and he was hurting more than I expected. While serving in Afghanistan, he and his Battle Buddy, his best friend, and their platoon came under fire. During the firefight, my brother dropped down to reload, and his best friend took a Dragunov sniper rifle round to the chest -- a bullet meant for my brother. He bled out in my brother's arms, and died. My brother came home with severe survivor's guilt, because he had promised to get his best friend home to his friend's wife and child -- and he thought that he had failed. I told him that you don't know when the bullet meant for you on a battlefield will find you, if ever it does. The only thing you can do is live your life, how much remains of it, in honor and memory of the ones you lose, remembering how they lived their life. Something I have never forgotten is this Bible verse: "No man has greater love than this, than he who would lay down his life for his friends." ~ John 15:13 Edit: Bisscute, I have a song that is along this line called "We Died For Honor" by the band Ravenia. It is a beautiful and touching tribute to those lost in combat. Lest we forget. Those who know: Gone, but not forgotten.

The original song that this is a remake of is about the main singer of The Offspring his girlfriend at the time dying when he made the song. I forget how or why she died but that's what the original was based on. This one hits with veteran loss very well and I love both versions of this song so much. Both have tons of emotion and are great versions of this song.

Growing up in the 90's (born in 68) knowing the original Offspring versions this cover carries so much more. My dad did three volunteer tours in Vietnam. No generation of soldier has been disrespected as they. Our veterans deserve better of us. We are free because of them. 🇺🇲

He had 3 friends. Now he has 3 black bracelets. It is inconceivable that you will be sent back to war with post-traumatic stress syndrome and suicidal thoughts. Nobody wants to have someone like him in their team, because you would like to come home alive. You need people in the team who want to live and can hold their thoughts together. He can't do anything for the loss of his comrades, but for the next losses you have to question that. No one in our country would get through the psychological test and should go back to endanger the lives of their own men. My problem with the video is that for me it seems like returning is the only way. Instead of helping veterans, we send them back again and they are happy to do it. Because the army is family. You can see that this is not the case for the state when they return and live on the streets.

This is his way of dealing with it. The story shows him getting out, but then reenlisting. The suicidal tendencies aren't just the result of PTSD, it also goes with survivor guilt and not feeling normal in the civilian world. I lost a lot of friends from suicide, because they had a hard time adjusting, when we got out of the Marines.

From my understanding, it's a simplification of life in general. Despite the fact that a warzone is hell, it's also easier to make decisions, because you usually know who the enemy is. It's easier to know where to go and what to do -- not necessarily true in life as a civilian.

I'm a Vietnam War veteran, and I'd like to say Thank You for doing these types of songs. I must say that, even though you are young, you have a better grasp of what war means than many older people. There is nothing heroic about war; there is no epic music playing when these people die - they just die, alone and afraid. Unfortunately, war is sometimes necessary, but let's never glorify it; it is only about brutality, death and destruction. You seem wise beyond your years, and I appreciate you immensely.

When you lose loved ones there will always be the question of why. Why were they there? Why then? Why them? Why did someone else survive? (like in this case) It does not usually matter if it is for war, or due to a car accident that happened. There will be the pain of having them ripped away. You being able to empathize with the families who have lost a son, a husband, or a father shows you are very emotionally mature, especially in comparison to many people that are growing up in this current generation. To be able to express your feelings so well when English (I am guessing) is not your first language. I am impressed

To me, even though they have the same exact lyrics, they are almost two totally different songs. The original, despite the song being written about the death of the lead singers' girlfriend in a car accident, still had their upbeat punk rock background to it and could get lost in the sea of every other punk rock band song in the 90's honestly. Not that it was bad, but for what the song was about, you would think they would have wanted it to stand out more than that. It creates a very different atmosphere that almost doesn't fit if you learn what the lyrics are actually about. That said new 2021 Offspring slowed down piano version really nails the atmosphere you would expect for why the song was written and you get way more of the expected emotion in the vocals from Dexter Holland the second time around. Highly recommended.

Great reaction. Liked. The bracelets are the only jewelry you are allowed to wear in the US Army, besides a wedding band. They are memorial bracelets for someone killed in action. He convinced his three buddies to join the service because of what they saw on the news. Some explosion. Then he was walking point to scan for any explosive devices & missed one that killed his three buddies he joined with on the buddy program. This video deals with survivors guilt on a magnitude that is unfathomable, but does happen. That's why he re enlisted for another tour. Many soldiers with survivors guilt do that. The only one who can really understand what a soldier is going through, is another soldier. I salute ALL who serve. HOOYAH!

Their cover and Offspring's original are great songs. Even though how they did it compared to Offspring originally did it, it really makes it feel like 2 different songs that share the same lyrics basically. Instead of just a cover of the song, it became like a "new" song instead. Yep its about basically survivor's guilt. From what I've heard of it all when comes to military vets with it, is lots will go back over and over if possible in attempts to die as they feel it's the only way. Along with if they don't go that route sadly commit the unthinkable instead over it all. It really ruins the person and many can't or won't get help over it all leading to horrible outcomes. Though due to many don't want to commit the unthinkable they use going back as a way for them to have it happen. One of the list of things that they really need to do more to help with people who end up with those from war/etc. They gave everything for us and, we are failing at it still, but really need to give everything to help them back. Five Finger Death Punch really does let it all out in their songs.

Thank you. As a veteran, I thank this band for so powerfully portraying the tragedy of war. The families of these soldiers suffer as much or more than their loved ones. Sometimes, those who die are the lucky ones. Their families and the wounded warriors who come back home, face a lifetime of challenges. War should only be necessary to defend your country and your family from attack. The German military theorist, Karl Von Clausewitz stated that "War is politics by other means." I say, screw politics.

Notification is one of the hardest jobs inside the military. I wish that upon Noone. Not only do you feel the loss, your news is going to destroy a family, their friends, everyone involved. It never leaves the one who does the notification. Each one stays with you. To my brothers and sisters keep your heads up, never outta the fight. Also, thank you for watching and trying to understand.

Someone's probably mentioned it before but the bracelets are for how many men he lost. His friends at the start that all signed up for the military, but he lost all of his friends to the IED explosion the vehicle crept over. So he wears those bracelets as a tribute to them. So he never forgets them, and so others know he has suffered horrible loss.

Bracelets are for POWs/MIA. They have name, rank, etc. U can get on of a friend that u lost in battle. And the proceeds go to organizations that help veterans.

Each one of those bracelets are a close friend (soldier) who've died. The medal bracelet club is a group of people that I wouldn't wish on my own worst enemy, but they're worn for their memory/honor.

Five Finger Death Punch right to the feels. They are good for that. Very powerful. Another good song they've done is a cover of Bad Company's titular song, Bad Company. It's not a tear-jerker, but it's still very good. Liked it better than the original, if I'm honest. It's the one that made me a fan or FFDP.

I agree that the original by the Offspring is more personal and more of a lamentation. The original is not about loss due to war. It spoke to those of us who lost friends and family throughout the 80s into to the 90s. For us it was about death that was unexpected. The pain and sorrow that follows and the guilt associated with an unexpected death.

My first thought was: this song itself hits you like a truck, your reaction hits you like a tank. I cried at my usual parts of the song but your analysis gave me some more parts where my vision got blurry. I am so glad I suggested it for you.

Being a Notifier (In this it was the 2 females you see walking to the door.) Is one of the hardest things to do. Usually it's 2 officers, one of which is a Chaplain. However the military is pretty understanding with letting a Team leader notify the family of their fallen soldiers. It's very difficult and something that stays with you for the rest of your life and you remember in vivd detail forever.

As a currently homeless veteran, this song hurts in so many ways. I appreciate your reaction.... although I wish more felt that way. Even some people who understand this video do nothing to help those who sacrificed everything so you don't have to. It is said the US, who spends the most on "defense", treats it's veterans the worst in all of the word. Yes, even Russia at least has a better veterans program and general populous appreciation of those sacrifices.

I agree with you brother, anytime someone tells me “thank you for your service” I tell them don’t thank me or my brothers and sisters, instead be the type of American worth fighting for, instead physically help us get back to normal, help them with a place to stay, a bed to sleep in, help them find a job! A lot of us when we get back lose our sense of worth or usefulness, which is a huge piece we need to stay functioning! The American people need to do better, stop relying on the government that doesn’t give a shit!

The 2 notification officers showing up in formal uniform is a real thing that's been going on here in the U.S. since at least World War2 and they still do it to this day. That's how your family is notified that you died in combat. That's a nightmare scenario for your family.
