Before you post something dumb from another branch, remember we serve the SAME country. With that said, keep the bashing classy. I wont ban/block funny/legit bashing branch to branch. IF you are just in here to be a turd, you will be removed.

I mean cintia was clear just sharing something funny that happened back in bmt to them and I was just making a joke about the fact that the mti told that trainee to keep chewing so id say you think about what you said here because it make you look very fucking stupid lol.

From someone from an abusive childhood, I'd say you learn to mentally zone out and follow orders really quick when someone is screaming in your face. I'm looking into joining the airforce and I feel I'll be mentally prepared to get screamed at constantly all day. Update as of October 2021: For anyone who's interested, I'm actually going through the enlistment process with the national guard instead. I take my ASVAB next Tuesday!

Join, just get a good job and it'll be worth it. But yes, after the first week it's not even stressful... You just take it in stride and improve. I'm currently Active duty in the Air Force and I enjoy it. Some days are fucken ass with my AFSC but it's still worth it

Reminds me of one time in Army Basic we weren't allowed to have cheese burgers (or anything from short order line). The DFAC ran out of what ever the entree so that's all that we could order. So I got one, got to my seat took one bite and a Drill Sergeant pop up and started screaming about how I wasn't supposed to have a burger. I kinda tried to explain why I had one, but he didn't want to hear it so I had to throw it away and then chased me outside for a good 'ol smoking session, hit the sack that night listening to my groaning stomach. The next morning our senior Drill Sergeant was at PT and he came to me and asked, how it was going, when I last talked to my family and did I enjoy last nights chow. So I told him I didn't have chow. He wanted me to explain why, so I told him what happened. He then went over to my Drill Sergeants and gave them a talking to about the "importance" of eating especially for my scrawny ass. After that, I wasn't fucked with in the DFAC.

I remember chow being the most entertaining part of my day. Especially with new trainees coming in. I remember a male trainee kept eyeballing a female and they went back n forth with the looks. And EVERYONE caught it. One sergeant was like “I don’t wanna see you making googly eyes at her again and instead eat your damn food!” And a female instructor said to the female “You and I are gonna have a serious talk after this. If I catch you looking at him again or he starts looking at you, both of y’all are getting paper work!” Never got to see who it was because I didn’t wanna get my ass chewed out too. Good times.

USAF basic 1969. never even saw a female until i got to tech school. I did see the screwups get hit, choked and kicked. after 4 weeks we did get a 10 minute in the break area for candy bars, cokes and smokes. we consumed all three at once. made ya dizzy afterward. wasn't the boyscout camp the recruiter told me it was.

I went to AF basic training 4 Nov ‘75. Arrival night, we spent most of that night under the canopy getting yelled at “Pick ‘em up! Put them down!” I brought nothing but my enlistment form so I kept picking it up and putting it down while others brought heavy luggage. Then about 4:30 am, we had to go shower and get in a bunk. Once in the bunk, Sgt Carranza came in yelling that we did not clean the showers so everybody ran in and cleaned them. Then back in the bunks by 5:30 am. Then at 6 am he rolled a garbage can down the center isle, and for those who did not get out of the bunk immediately, he helped them by flipping the bunk upside down. The center isle belonged to the TI’s. If you stepped a foot in it, there would be hell to pay. The thing I remember most about basic was the sleep deprivation. It was daily and constant. As for the chow hall, we were greatly harassed before eating but I think more so today. I thought our basic trading was pretty physical but I’m sure it was not Army physical. The mind games were unbelievable. Before the 1.5 mile run, we had to run in place for a half hour to “warm up” until our legs were like butter. Then we ran. And no belt buckle could touch the ground during push ups, but when the count got to 19 of our required 20, the TI would always hit the keys in his pocket and say, “Start over till you get it right. I heard a buckle hit the pavement!” After finishing basic training, I was in incredible shape. I could run like the wind and did 100 push ups every morning for about 30 years. I feared no one. At the age of 67, I still do 40 push ups each day on my knuckles as a reminder of basic training. The Air Force changed my life. I was a poor kid from an alcoholic home but the AF gave me direction and self confidence in life. I began as a 906 Med Admin lowly Airman Basic serving at Yokota Air Base Japan (loved it there), got out of the military to pursue a degree in Accounting and then an MBA following my four years in the Air Force. I retired from healthcare in 2019, after 28 years as a hospital CEO. When I meet a fellow veteran today, I feel an immediate connection. There was a day when we would give our life for a fellow service member. My prayer is that we never lose that.

I went through AF bmt many years ago. And yes, it was a peice of cake compared to the Army or Marines. I was lucky, never once did any of them get in my face and yell. I was never singled out. I just did what I was told, answered any questions they may have for me, and put forth 100% effort. Others were not so lucky and seemed to always attract the DI attention. Spent 6 years in the AF then got an early out to finish my college. It was a good 6 years and I’m proud to be able to say I served my country.

Watched this, brought back memories. I was in the USMC 71-73. Enlisted in the USAF 74, and bypassed BMT. After an overseas tour, upon return I requested MTI School, and got it in '77. Made Master MTI in '79. Looking at these videos, I truly believe it was a lot tougher back then. We were NEVER allowed to abuse the trainees, and had to go through a 600 question psych exam every 6 months to prove were weren't "evil." Nevertheless, I do remember a lot more mental mind games played by the TI's. I drew upon my USMC time and added it to the USAF's curriculum, and turned out outstanding flights. Chow runners, road guards, dorm guards, etc...none escaped our wrath if infractions were noted, but I must say we were a little more devious in approach. After my tour as an MTI, I was selected for recruiting duty, go figure. One day I had a former enlisted airman come in, to inquire about joining the ANG or AF Reserves. He saw my name plate on the desk, saw my MTI hat hanging on the back wall, realized I was his MTI years ago. He turned around and walked out. Guess I made an impression on him...

Much respects for my Air Force Vets. This part is so stressful for the young men trying to be part of the military. It is hard to not take it personal when you are going through it, but the truth is that it is not personal, and they are just trying to make you an exceptional man. So my hat is off to those drill instructors as well for how hard they work to make our recruits worthy of honorable military service. Semper Fi!

Brings back memories. I had a blast in AF Basic. I had been in Army ROTC in University, on the Ranger team all three years. I had to drop at the end of my Junior year after shattering my ankle. After a year of rehab and getting back in shape...I decided to go AD, but switched to USAF. So I was obviously made Dorm Chief, and actually got to run my dorm and the baby dorm across the hall for their first 2 weeks. Their TI got hurt on vacation and everyone had to fill in, so my TI asked if I would help out. I got a LOT of slack and freedoms, actually felt bad for most. I was 22 and married, so was allowed to call my wife every night. This was in 1998 and was the only troop with a cellphone. I ran my dorms the way I was trained by the Army. Organization and structure. At the end my TI said no one ever screwed with me in the chow hall, because they were a little scared of me LoL. He told me after the first week, he would turn on the microphones in the doorms every morning and have the other TIs listen to me scream and yell at everyone and get them going. We were his last BMT flight and he thought I could handle it. We became friends and still talk 25 years later. But the trust they put in me during Basic and even in Tech, really made me feel good to have chosen the Air Force over the Army and proud of my Service. Don't think I ever slowed down after that. Long career of right place right time. And some awesome deployments and TDYs. Three wars and a fucked up body later, I wouldn't change a thing.

Yes, I remember when I was in AF BMT back in June,1983. We actually had time to consume our meal! I believe it was something like 7to 10 minutes max. We had brief time to socialize before filing back into formation and drill/marching off to our next assignment of the day. All and all BMT was a rewarding experience for me. I made it through 4 of 6 and a half weeks of BMT before some medical issues sent me home on a medical separation. Now,37years later I wish I could do it again. ***** Our brother flight had a DI that went just a bit off his trolley when he was trying to gain access back into the dorm and would not provide the information the dorm guard asked for. So, he punched the window out of the door and it became a physical confrontation. He was never seen again by anyone on our side of the base. I don't know if they discharged him or just sent him away. No one would tell us. Ours were great, both DI and TI. Our DI was a rookie and we had worn out his voice by the second week of boot. All he could do was whisper at us after that, for a week or so. Our TI took over for him. He was tough, never raised his voice but would give you a look that would freeze water. At graduation, he was really cool with us.

What I recall most about the first days and weeks of basic was thinking “What did I get myself into???” I went the National Guard route, so I still went to basic and AIT like everyone in the Army, I came back home and go to my unit 1 weekend a month. There were many days in training when I questioned whether or not I made the right decision or if it was all going to be worth it, but now that it’s over and I’m at my unit, I’m starting to believe that it was a good decision for me. Definitely not for everyone, though. Also, Army is waaay different than this. No such thing as a silent DFAC in basic (IYKYK).

They're definitely holding back for the camera. They go full on spazzfest on you. I'm yet to find a video of a proper Air Force Training instructor. I have to say that Army also seems tame in these youtube videos. The marine corp Drill Instructors are the ones that my Training Instructors seemed to be molded from.

I wish these videos were around to learn and be familiar with what came to you around 1989. 9 out of 10 people told me the discipline and mental part of the training were harder even if they gave 3 times more physical training. That was the only thing they were not prepared for.

I went in late 2013. Missed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the new year. Actually I was door guard at midnight when 2014 came around. Could only sit and imagine what my friends back home were doing. The first 2-3 weeks were terrifying for me but the further into basic I got the more I enjoyed it. It does get a lot better after the very beginning.

Sootball I hate to see what Air Force BMT is like toward the end if it's this relaxed in week zero. In my Army BCT in week 10 our drill sergeants even though they got somewhat more chill with us, still hollered and screamed at us worse than what Air Force BMT had here in week zero.

That shouting and having to do things over and over again reminds me at home. I realised my mom and dad gave me a military drill every day of my life when I was young, without me ever noticing it. I hated it, but now I love them for doing it that way.

Anyone who thinks this is incredibly soft, yes the Air Force is a bit softer in bmt but they are dialing it down for the cameras, both of my brothers served in the Air Force and they said it was much more intense than this video, maybe they just had good Drill Sergeants? Idk

This was my flight (yes, I am in the video, getting yelled at). To answer some questions I have seen: It was July of 2009, 331st TRS, we are still in our civilian clothes because it is breakfast of our very first day ("Zero week") after getting into our dorm very late the night before, I believe we went to get haircuts and uniforms either later this same day or possibly the next day. So we are all tired, confused, and of course some of us may have been questioning our life choices at that moment. The TIs were probably a *little* restrained due to the camera being there.I grew up as a Marine brat, and life with my dad was honestly more difficult than Air Force BMT for me. Heck, my experiences as an 11 or 12 year-old kid in the "Young Marines" for a few hours on Saturday mornings was tougher than these 8 weeks as a 24 year-old. I learned how to march, do facing movements, call commands to a formation, shine boots, etc... all skills that served me well here. The most important skills are paying attention to what you are supposed to do, doing what you are told, paying attention to detail, learning how to keep a straight face when either you or someone else are being comically yelled at, and staying awake when in class or formation. For those saying it was so long to eat because it is an 11 minute video... for one, this video has been edited from at least a couple different cameras, and isn't completely in order. Multiple things were happening simultaneously that are shown here sequentially. Secondly, by the time the last people in the 45-50 member flight are in line getting their food, the first table to sit is usually already done and out the door. Let me know if you have any questions.

I went through in 2003. I remember the day Warrior Week started the MTIs would generally let the recruits have a few more minutes to eat. One chow hall closed due to mx so they pushed everyone through the one. I literally sat down and grabbed my fork, took one bite of my food and was kicked out of my seat because everything was behind schedule. The MTI looked at me and I could tell he felt horrible but he was following guidance. They seem to generally have more time to eat in this video. I never once was able to finish a meal.

This is the closest to what it's like. You become so under pressure that you can't think. I became a zombie to what they said. But yet, I wish I could go back and retry but I can't. I have the highest of respect for the instructors. They train people every single day into quick critical thinking. Let me ask y'all a question; how do you think you would act and feel, when you can't think, to pick up a simple tray, or to even walk in formation?

This, it's supposed to simulate the stress of combat. You have to train your mind to think in an environment where you are constantly under attack, have no respite, and where everything you do seems to be wrong, but where you still have to perform.
