I’ve used the M1 Macbook Air as a student for the last 3 years - the best purchase i’ve made my whole life. I love my mac so much, it’s so fast and can handle everything, from 30+ tabs open at once to photoshop. Also the battery is literally incredible. After a whole day of using it at school I come home with 60% battery. Really, if i’m just watching youtube, I could go an hour and it’d still be at 90%. it’s simply amazing. My favorite laptop ever.

Feel so much the same about my M1 Air! Best computer I’ve ever owned, and I’ve built some relatively powerful gaming PCs in my time. I run it in clamshell mode at 4k 144hz and works perfectly for anything I need it to do. Only 8gb but honestly has been more than enough for my needs

What the bummer is...if they didn't gimp ssd in M2 comparing to M1 I would upgrade in a heartbeat this year but I can't see paying more for less pretty much. Such a weird decision to sell these setups every year now.

The M1 Air has a good chance of bring considered the best all-round Mac of all time. Such a massive jump from previous Intel gen, such a great balance of size, weight, performance, value. For the use cases of a typical computer user, it's near perfect, and will be for years to come. Lightning in a bottle.

Well said. It is truly the GOAT. I recently switched from it to base 16" MBP, because I needed more screen real estate. Apart from great display, I hardly noticed any significant performance difference.

This might be an odd point for most people but I LOVE thats it's also fanless. I specced mine with 16gb of ram too and I don't see myself having to upgrade for at least another 3-4 years

I have an M2 Pro Max 32/38 and upgraded from the M1 Air. My wife really wanted the Air and so I was very happy to give it to her. You know, when we travel or go to Starbucks I literally feel jealous of her. I have this monster brick and she has this beautiful, sleek machine. The M1 Air is still fantastic. She uses her iPad Air as a 2nd monitor with the Air M1 and is a total boss.

I went from pc to macbook pro in 2014, and was constantly upgrading to newer models, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019. My last mbp cost me $3500. But, in 2020 i bought my wife an m1 mb air. after seeing her base model m1 air not only out perform my expensive mbp, but do it quietly and with way better battery life, i went out and got one myself. Apple probably regret making it so good because I havent once thought about upgrading since and I dont forsee a need to anytime soon. 100% the best laptop ive ever had. And yes the camera is a potatoe but continuity camera makes up for it.

I'm convinced the M1 MacBook Air is the pinnacle of MacBook Air design. It's everything that 2014 14" MacBook wished it could be but it was hobbled by the pathetic intel Core M CPU. The I/O limitations of Apple Silicon have felt limiting on the iMac or MacBook Pro but it's exactly what we've come to expect from the Air. I think that the original Air had only one USB port. In October I got the model I have been dreaming of since it was introduced. Mine is silver, just like all the previous models of the MacBook Air. I got mine with twice the base RAM and storage because I expect to be using this for a while. My sister got one on a Presidents' Day sale at Best Buy. She's a teacher and is thoroughly delighted with it. "Light creative work"? I use this for ALL my creative work and it handles it like a champ. This Mac is quite capable of anything you want to do with it. Heck, that M2 MacBook Air doesn't even LOOK like a MacBook Air.

Got one in 2022 for my last year in college and it didn't dissappoint at all! Such an upgrade from my previous HP with an I7 6500U lol. I still use it as a media consumption machine and it's great to have on the bed since it wont overheat due to vent blockage

Have an 2015 i7 Macbook Pro and use it mostly for some hobby lightroom photo editing. The M1 Air has been really tempting. Running Lightroom denoise takes 4-5min on my MBPro, so having an upgrade over that would be very welcome. I do question if buying one now would only give me a couple years worth of use, as they're 3 years old now, and finding one with 16GB ram is increasingly difficult. That price tho...sigh

I got an m1 air like 5 months ago at Best Buy$749 I am blown away by it performance I can easily have multiple tabs open and Logic Pro with multiple plug ins and light room and I’ve had no beach ball or hiccups though I will generally close apps if something working on music! The way the unified memory works is fantastic! like someone’s said beleive the m1 air will go don in history as one of the best Macs ever. I love it.

I replaced my 2014 MacBook Pro 13 inch that I had for nearly 7 years with a 2020 M1 Air back in 2021, around 3 years ago and I couldn’t be happier, I plan to have it for 7 years like I had my 2014 MBP or maybe I’ll upgrade to a 15 inch M2 Pro later this year, let’s see.

i found even M2 AIR 15 also doesn't have default 2x integer scaling by default. When i enable that, the screen working area gets limited and even smaller than MBP 14. Only Macbook Pros comes with default retina scaling.

I've had my MBA M1 for one year and it's battery life is still 100%. I use it almost daily and for light work use, too. I upgraded from the 2018 MBA intel version. It is the best laptop I've ever owned.

The M1 Air coming into 2024 and the era of M3 is only good value if you can get a 16GB 512GB model for less than 1K USD. The base model pricing at apple are garbage

Apple themselves have the M1 Air permanently on offer in the refurbished store at $849 for the base spec or $1019 for 16Gb RAM so if you prefer to buy direct, as I do, you can still get a bargain.

Bought a beefy desktop for gaming and video editing aswell as an M1 that I intended to use as a chromebook, only for web browsing on the go. The air has become my main machine, even for editing.

I mainly use my PC because I game, but I absolutely love my M1 Air still. Battery life is phenomenal and it has plenty of power for what I use it for (web browsing, video playback, some Lightroom editing).

I really wish somebody would try is macs on a hot tropical like climate ON THE LAP before commenting that having no fan is not that bad

Sensible people who have no aircon and sit out in the blazing sun in a hot climate would instinctively know that MB Air is not a good choice. You cannot be force-fed; you have to use your own sensibility. If you are doing intensive work and need sustainable performance, then the Air should not be on your list. That applies to people who sit in the sun in a hot climate expecting miracles.

I find it hard to recommend M1 MBA these days. While being good deal for the price still in terms of speed and such, the reason I find it hard to recommend is because of it’s age. 3,5 years. Macs typically receive between 5 and 7 years of software support from Apple. Meaning that in the best case scenario the M1 MBA will receive about 3,5 more years of updates. That’s about 250-350 ish USD per year of software support instead of the 140ish USD per year when it came out. So with that in Mind, it’s not that great of a deal anymore I think. While still being a fast machine, in terms of longevity I have my doubts about recommending it and I always try to prefis this when I do recommend it.

You say that, but my partner's early 2015 MacBook is still receiving updates from Apple. And how do you know Apple's plans for Apple silicon OS support longevity?

Apple never qualifies for the length of support. Some iOS devices get 6-7 years. Maybe because it is Apple Silicon, they will support it longer. Of course, Apple may increase support as they are still selling them new in 2024 (for Q1 anyway). But in principle, it is a downside and worth factoring in that risk. I would also hesitate to recommend it if the buyer's budget was limited to only the M1 MB Air.

I have the 16GB model that I bought early when the refurb models became available. I use it with a Thunderbolt dock and I get around the 1 external monitor issue by using a DisplayLink Adapter, though that takes up CPU resources and makes it so that copyright protected content is not viewable, neither has been an issue for me. If I really want to watch Netflix I'll simply turn off DisplayLink, and as for CPU, I use Final Cut Pro and I haven't felt it be an issue. Many times I've been tempted to upgrade to an M2 or M3 but I keep coming back to: why? This more than meets my needs. Battery after nearly 3.5 years is at 87% health now.

$750 for a device that old is still high. The used pricing is closer to where it should be new. Apple head's preferences for Apple tend to bias opinions. Stop buying the stuff at those higher prices allowing companies to get away with the .... higher pricing. 😊

Really good review! I’m a bit of a spec whore and ordered a m2 studio max with 2TB and studio display and it’s fantastic but I only have basic tasks! I’d presume most hobbyists like me are in the same boat when really a lower spec machine would work for me! My man maths just got the better of me ha

A few months ago Jonathan posted a video describing the health issues that he's been dealing with for most of 2022 and 2023. He said that the channel would be changing and that Travis would be helping out a lot more. A week or two later Travis began putting out videos and cadence has been much higher and steady ever since....without Jonathan though. I've searched for updates but it seems they're keeping Jonathan's status under wraps for now. All we can hope for is that he's recovering and that he will make a triumphant return soon. That being said, Travis here is pumping out some fantastic content, so it's not like the channel is suffering in Jonathan's absence, just different.
