I'm glad that he said he felt like a hero. So many people who are heroes say "I'm not a hero, I'm just doing my job" Yes, you might be doing your job, but that doesn't mean every situation is the same. Had he not been there, this would've certainly ended tragically. He's 100% a hero. And let's not forget how much credit the passenger deserves too. This was a team effort. Amazing story.

Further details are starting to emerge on what the passenger had to contend with. The whole thing started with a 300mph dive losing 6,000 feet per minute as the pilot has slumped forward over the controls, and this passenger was sat in the back at the time! It's a phenomenal story.
@enthalpy
@enthalpy 2 жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure 300 mph is above Vne (never exceed speed) for a caravan. If you pull too hard you can break the plane at that speed. So phenomenal job by the pilot and controller.

@GeekOfAllness
@GeekOfAllness 2 жыл бұрын
@@spudmint You just pull back on the yoke. Gees will shove you into the floor, but it's not that crazy to manage if you're pulling back without too much force. Ideally, you'd drop power to idle to avoid overspeed and breaking the aircraft into pieces, but the most important part is pulling up moderately (pull back too hard and you can break things, especially when you're going super fast). Getting the pilot off the controls was probably significantly harder.
@GeekOfAllness
@GeekOfAllness 2 жыл бұрын
@@chadurbanski3468 A proper certification also expects you to understand a lot of tedious rules about where to fly, when to fly, how to inspect the aircraft, etc. And how to plan a trip, where to get resources, how to operate the advanced controls, etc. Taking off and landing in calm conditions is pretty easy with minimal instructions. Flying safely around other vehicles in the sky, flying in worse conditions, communicating in towered airspace, and knowing how to read the manual to fly your aircraft properly takes a lot more practice.

Congratulations dude! Well done! I'm not so sure I would be able to stay calm. Bless you, your incoherent pilot, and the one who guided you through safely landing... Captain Morgan. Amazing guys!

It was incredible how calm both were. The air traffic controller save his life but he also saved his life. Maybe he could get his own license and never be in the same situation again.

The passenger/ pilot-to-be, was by any measure extraordinarily composed. The only way I could have been that calm was to have had several brews before returning from that fishing trip.

I'm so proud of both of you. The non licensed pilot. You better get one, but know it's not required when you are in the middle of saving lives and your own. Congrats future Dad and mom... as for The captain on the tower, 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏. Wow!!! I hope the hired pilot is feeling better too. The passenger....thanks for staying calm 🥰

I was awed by this story when I first heard about it but after seeing this video I am even more stunned! OMG, Flip Flops, sitting three rows back, plane in a nose dive, pilot slumped over the controls and a blacked out screen and.........................cool as a cucumber! Just incredible! 🩴🩴

I want to hear from the passenger. As a pilot myself when I have been in nose dives typically you go into negative G's and trying to climb over seats and pull a man from a strapped in position would be very difficult. Especially if you have never experienced weightlessness. Did the aircraft spin or was it just a rapid decent because that would be two different animals. Either way the passenger should consider becoming a pilot.

The ability to climb into the right seat while in a dive and with the pilot incapacitated and NOT have panic take over is phenomenal. Then to be able to communicate and learn and not completely freak out at all the things you have to do to land that Caravan, amazing
@chris-hayes

Yeah I was a little confused about that part. I'm sure the screens were probably all gibberish to him and might as well have been blacked out, but for the screens to actually be dark, that wouldn't make sense.

The glass panels stay on unless the power is off. The pilot in the left seat and he had to be pulled of the control yoke. These screens are confusing to understand. The older style of aircraft panels had dials and separate radios and a transpond that is a radio so is easier monter. The ident bottom is also to find. These new panels you have to be oriented to them for each of them. This jerk reporter was sinsenualizing his report for ratings as all reporters do.

Just listen to the ATC tape; the passenger *clearly* says the electronic displays all blacked out during the nosedive/recovery. *YOU* are the one being inaccurate here.

Yes, incredible story, one in a million for sure, one of life's unforgettable moments, however, there is one point I think everybody hasn't thought of - what a fantastic designed aircraft , Kudos for Cessna , That high wing also made it a lot easier by not giving the "pilot" any blind spots. Sulley would be proud . He should take another ride with the ATC guy, just to see what he did.
