In this video we Diagnose and fix an Airbag Fault.
The car came from another workshop that had already changed a sensor, but that didn't fix the problem!
Enjoy the video!

I hope the other shop pays for the sensor, because they are not really cheap, and it was not needed. Great fix again, sometimes it can be so easy and cost-effective. Soldering the wires, though, can give you new trouble later. I learned that the hard way with seat wires for the Airbag seat sensor. I used lead-free solder, extra for that, no flux, and it still went green after 4 years and I had to put in a new connector. To connect the cables, I used a crimp style connector for it, and that holds to this day. My cousin is driving this old fart of a Golf MK4, and it's still running fine :D

Great one as usual. It amaze me how quickly the other shop gave up especially since they had a really fat clue of where and what is wrong after switching the left and right sensors and noticed that the fault code stayed on the left. Seems like they rather pay you what ever you charge for that kind of diagnosis then spending thier time on it. Keep up the good work, you rock 👑👑👑

Hey Dan, still enjoy your videos. Got rid of my 750li BMW phew. Now i have a Toyota Camry, not sure if you have diagnosed Toyota. Just wanted to say, that my AC wasn't working. The interesting thing was the flow sensor attached to the compressor was only reading 3.5volts when scanned. Needs 5volts to work, clutch wasn't coming on. Purchased a new flow sensor, removed old one and there was much corrosion under the sensor perhaps causing magnet to fail or lowering electric volts? Voila my AC is working great again. And because i listen to Diagnose Dan, diagnose John fixed it again. Hope this tip helps you one day like, you help all of us!

another "workshop"? Something like that is not a workshop for me if it doesn't find this quite simple error and then leaves behind such traces and missing screws. That's what my cars from the specialist workshops looked like, since then I've been doing everything myself again.

I'm buddies with another automotive electrician/diagnostician. He says the amount of guys that don't know the functions of a meter beside "V" is staggering. I myself find that many technicians don't know when to STOP using the meter, it also has limitations. I guarantee you this "simple error" would stump all the guys at my shop, but they can run circles around me doing heavy-line. Not digging at them, there is simply a specialty for every subject of a car.

That was a very interesting area where the wire was corroded. Covered by the split loom it should have been well protected. Having the sound tool really helped. Good one Dan!
@SeanBZA
@SeanBZA Жыл бұрын
My guess it was there from the assembly on a jig by the loom maker, where it was cut as the sharp ends of the sleeve were put on. Passed the initial testing, and worked on the line, and worked till the vehicle was driven in water, which leaked and was held in by the loom there, and then the wire, combined with the voltage on the sensor, caused it to slowly corrode away. Best trip for doing those kind of joins is to use adhesive lined heat shrink over the solder join, and shrink it down to bond the hot melt adhesive to the wire, making sure to lightly sand the insulation at the area to get clean fresh non damaged plastic insulation, making for the most waterproof join possible to the sleeve and insulation. Liquid electric tape is also good, cover with that, then 3M insulation tape over, tightly wrapped, then again liquid electrical tape over that. Works well on boats to keep stuff in good shape.

Perfect diagnosis plan. The air bag sensor part was not needed so it seems fair that the customer doesn't get charged for that. I'd also hope that Dan gets to evacuate, replace the A/C condenser and recharge as a tip for getting the real problem fixed. This car likely had a collision repair and that condenser is on the estimate but not on the car ! The wire got pinched and the green plague took over. Great review....I love those sound generators....they do come in handy in many cases.

Yes the circuit tracer! I tried a very cheap one and it has worked very well on breaks that are a short distance away from the connector you’re probing from! Very cool to see you using a cost effective tool like that when I’m used to seeing big elaborate scanners, scopes and computers. Good video again Dan!
