Just set up my first MOSFET, works great, had to substitute the 3034 FET for a 2395, the electronics store I went to didn't even have a 3034 in their giant book. The 2395 is rated at 50 amps max, and 150 watt, and has only .028 ohms resistance. Not using a LiPo, yet, but trigger response has improved, as has the rate of fire. The most expensive thing I had to buy was the Helping Hands, that was around $30, even with my military discount! Can't wait to play with this FET this weekend.

I love this kind of work. Is always easier when you have the right tools. For me, I choose to buy one, but I would follow your tutorial if I've had the tools. You deserve more likes!

I regularly use the mosfet with a big 11.1v and have also tested them up to 22.2v, not for very long though. As long as your setups good and the mosfet is well made you should not have any problems.

Would putting a auto resetting fuse in the circuit somewhere, say between the battery and motor affect this? No, right? And the purpose of the resistor around the two pins is to complete the circuit from the smaller black wire without shorting out the battery. It does that by putting a load, or resistance, right?

Problems with this tutorial: the drain pin is there for a reason. Don't say "but you could fry the mosfet", you already soldered to 2 other connections that are *more likley* to fry it because they are connected directly to the silicon. And also, the hole is for mounting the heatsink. 'Proceeds to put heatshrink over it.' I'm out! You're supposed to mount it to the gun's casing and use that as a heatsink! But now that you used the screwhole to attach the drain wire...

Mosfets in AEG don't need much cooling because the motor typically runs for a few seconds at most, and most AEG's pull way less current than what the mosfet chip is designed for. The wires will pull out enough heat to give sufficient cooling in AEG's, even my most upgraded AEG's barely heat up a 3034 mosfet. You're right about the soldering though, that's why I'm always very careful when soldering on mosfets. I don't use the screw method of attaching the drain wire anymore, I just solder it to the heatsink or drain pin, it won't cause any damage if you're careful.

***** I was a little bit too angry at the time of writing that comment. There isn't enough current to heat up the mosfet. Btw, for extra protection: when soldering you can grip the leads as they're coming out of the mosfet with tweezers/pliers so the heat from soldering goes to them rather than the silicon.

I have moments like that too, we're only human you know. I gently clamp the mosfet in a small vise so that it draws heat from the heat sink.

Hey would know about the mosfet specifications please, i went to eletric store and there are to many kinds, considering my battery is 11.1v lipo, motor g&p m130 hightorque, 7.2v~12v nominal 9.6v. Or just send me your specs of the mosfet thanks. There r a number in mosfet. Thanks

I got my mosfet all wired up. I checked it using an electric meter. When I plugged my 11.1v lipo in, I heard a short "hiss" and it did not work. Is it possible that my battery is too strong or that maybe I need to just replace the resistors or the mosfet? My battery is a 11.1v 2200mAh lipo. Please help!

the heat sink, seems kinda pointless, when you are encasing the entire mosfet in heat shrink tubing, without cutting holes, for the hot air to escape, i know its optional, but still.

No just a non ab simple mosfet, I am not keen on ab fets because it wears out the motor quicker.

František Škudrna For signalwire use as thin as you can get and usually people use 16 or 18 awg wires as normal wires.

It gives extra protection to the mosfet chip, but you can make the unit without it. The 3034 chip commonly used in AEG's have a built-in TVS diode, so it does have voltage spike protection. This diode isn't very strong though, so there is a small chance of frying the fet without an external diode.

You will want to put a TVS diode on it to protect against voltage spikes. Otherwise it is too easy to accidentally fry the mosfet.

mosfets are great and all but I can't help but think there is like 5 different ways you can avoid the relay switch without a mosfet

To be honest I have no idea. The 3034 is the recommended one and is used by many, id check the spec sheets and compare but other from that i do not know.

Man, you are fucking good, thanks a lot to share your knowledge with others, i i already watched all of ur vids, and waiting for more, unfortunately we dont have or its hard to find some airsoft peaces peaces in brazil, takes a long time to order and receive by mail. Wich is this lil peace that u showed in the begining? Could u make a video with a eletric trigger and something to get better a standard trigger? Thanks you a lot again. It depends on what voltage/current they can take. If you are using 11.1v (3s) then it needs to be at least that voltage and be able to cope with 200 amps

it's actually a 2.2M olms resistor not 2.2k resistor if you use a 2.2k resistor it won't work, I know from experence.

Need to use a antistatic wrist strap otherwise you risk damaging the mosfet which can result in it shorting and catching fire!!!!
