Funny to see. I'm 54. Even as a kid I kind of thought the show was lame. Love aircraft and the arial shots were great, but there was so much rinse repeat of the shots and every climax was exactly the same.

great model kit too ... had 3 of them one as airwolf one as the commercial helicopter and oen as a hybrid of the two ... when I moved out of the parents sold them at a garage sale ... got 60 bucks for all 3 ... seems the buyer liked the series too
@darkprose
@darkprose 11 ай бұрын
@@JF-lt5zc And? It was a TV show with a TV budget working hard to keep its audience. Of course it ends the same. Isn’t that the point? All sci-fi fantasy TV shows follow a formula. (So do sitcoms.) MacGyver always got out of a jam using his intelligence and whatever was around him. Columbo always outwitted the criminals. KITT always saves the day with its technological magic. It’s repetitive because _people liked the formula_ and watched those shows with specific expectations. I doubt they had a budget to do a fresh sequence for every episode with Airwolf chasing or being chased. Remember that these shows had to churn out new episodes each week! I think all those shows did a fine job with the money and time they were given.

@Jason Puddy I take comfort from the fact that she (The Lady) accomplished her final mission (delivering a badly burnt young girl to a specialist medical centre in bad weather) before she crashed into the side of a mountain whilst returning to base. The crash report blamed pilot error, sadly the entire crew died on impact and the force of the impact was severe enough that it broke her clean in 2 😭😭

Yep agree...although as 'long name' mentions, there has been some protos made that you'd look at all helos now and wonder WTF are any of these things around now even doing in the sky!! What I can say without any breeches of national security is that the majority of them military wise are all moving to design of full stealth that look more like the f35 than an actual helos, but due to the composit materials needed to make, AND the costs of the certain engines with special rotor suppressors needed to be fitted are simply BS...more near to the same costs of the F35s.. If interested whats out now, do research into the one that crashed during the rubbish Bin Laden Op when it went down... you'll spin TF out.. 👍

Ah yes, the Bell 222A executive Helicopter. It was an instant success when Bell released it for sales and was loved by everyone who laid eyes on it. When it was released in 1979 at a whopping 1.1 million dollars if my memory is correct, but it was definitely at least 1 million dollars was an exorbitant price and everyone wanted it because of it's looks. I think it is still one of the most beautiful helicopters to ever take to the skies. It was until the Eurocopter EC155B1 came around in the 2000's that I found another equally beautiful Helicopter.

According to FLYING magazine buyers guide, a 222B in 1986 was $2 mill and some change. There was nothing like Bell quality at the time.

Sadly it wasn't a great sales success. Underpowered, high maintenance, poor safety record. That's why you don't see these often. I actually live very close to Van Nuys airport where it was based during the series.

Modified Bell 222. What an eternal beauty, I've dreamed of that helicopter when I was a kid. The toy model still proudly stands at my dear parents place.

In ‘87 I was fifteen. If I had seen this it would have been the same as if the Millennium Falcon had just landed in front of me. Airwolf was the absolute shit at that age.

It was the most attractive mono perpellar helicopter ever made, also intended to be a luxury/VIP, even had more stretch models patten. Like a flying vtol perpellar version of a limousine. Yet ironic it turned into a top secret military sci-fi movie craft.

I am a huge fan of Airwolf and watch every episode as a kid in the 80s. If I would have gotten the chance to sit inside her for even 5 minutes it would be the great time of my life. ❤❤❤

The primary stunt pilot really was an amazing pilot, in the real world the 222 looked much better than it actually performed. Still stunning looking though!

Great footage! Thank you for posting. Sadly, seeing Airwolf relegated to a publicity stunt (in this case, for "Checkers") parallels the great Orson Welles diminished in later life to shilling for frozen peas.
