AITA for “r**ning” a family vacation because I don’t want to move into my parents basement

I can relate to the feeling of when ever you tell your parents something it’s followed by unwanted advice. For me I will be doing an activity my parents signed me up for, and I will absolutely hate it, but I don’t want to talk to my parents about it because when ever I quit something they always start a long conversation about how not being able to stay committed to something will be a problem in the future, and I might hate that conversation a bit more than I hated the activity.

they cant just stop you from getting your own bank account, from the sound of things you are trying to live your own life and you think that living together will create unnecissary stress and tension, the parents have a right to be conserned if you smoke, you never know when something is an adiction untill its too late but they still cant treat you like a child. you want to live on your own and that shouldnt really ruin their vacation bc of it. but there are still some bits missing so i cant really say if you are or not

Same - they cannot stop you from getting your own bank account. Leads me to ask how do you get paid, whose account is the money paid into? Please don’t tell me you don’t use a cheque cashing service - that’s a complete waste of money. I can only think it’s paid into their account. If so, how do you pay your bills? Do they give you an allowance from your own wages? You say you have CC debt - you managed to get that on your own so there’s no reason stopping you from getting a bank account. Unless it is a card they got out for you. They still track you on your phone and you let them? Or is the phone on a family plan ? You’re 22 living on your own. If all your statements are true you are allowing them to remain locked into the minutiae of your life. You need to do your own stuff. If, however, you are using their phone plan, their credit card etc. you need to grow the heck up and either stop complaining that they’re meddling (your acceptance of their providing stuff is tacit approval of their involvement) or grow a pair and stand on your own.

I'm also aspiring to be a music teacher and my parents support me as much as they do my sister(want to study law) and we are planning to move in together dut that's because we get along, you should NOT stay in an environment that making you uncomfortable,especially when there are other options. It's nice that if they want to support you but they should ask you what you need first.

I think it’s an all around toxic situation. You’re right, but they are right too. You keep having financial problems so they are right, and actually being very generous. You gotta give them credit for that. But if you can make it out there in your own without asking them for rent money, and that’s better for you mentally, then you are right. But don’t ask them for rent money, cause I feel like they are saying they don’t want to shell out money for your living expenses if they have a whole apartment for you. And yes, they need to let you live your life. You say they “won’t let” you get a bank account? Bs. You are old enough to open one so go open one. That sounds whiny, but it also makes me think they are paying your living expenses and you just don’t want them to know you are taking their money and not being responsible with ur. So which one is it? Do you wanna pay your own way and be treated like an adult? Or do you wanna act like a kid with their money and throw fits?
