Thank you for this!! I'm afraid of needles, but I have two different shots - the auto injector, and an IM shot I have to handle myself. The auto injector is so sudden and painful that I'm more scared of it! Glad to know I may have this option.

I’m terrified of needles so the auto injector is the only option for me I’ve done both and feel the auto injector was painless and looking at the needle made me stress and feel pain immediately. Again as you said it a very personal decision.

i have lots of belly fat (have to shop at plus size stores) and the autoinjector does work! you just have to pinch your fat and do it that way

Thank you SO much for sharing this! Makes sense that pinching it up would help. I did not think of that.

Have you tried Ajovy? My friend who suffers from migraines for two years now is desperate for a solution. How often will he be taking Ajovy?

Thank you so much for that video! My neurologist didn’t tell me there was the option of a pre-filled syringe 💉 I was using the Pen for about a year and a half and it hurt but the outcome was always great! Only this month the pen kinda failed me I think.. I’ve had reoccurring migraines for a week and a half, the next pen is due in a few days, so I guess the effect kinda wore off faster than the other months. I think I want to try the pre-filled syringe when I get my next prescription! I am not necessarily a friend of needles but having control over how fast it injects sounds like a dream to me. The pen is way too fast for my legs, maybe when I apply it slower, more will stay in my leg and it will work for 30 days again instead of 20 😄 Anyways, I really liked your video! You seem to be a very nice person, I wish you all the best

You're so welcome! Yeah a lot of doctors default to the auto-injector. That is too bad that it failed you recently. My experience with CGRP-inhibitors (Aimovig & Ajovy) is that after being on them for a while, they wear off and dont' work as well. In the past I have switched back and forth between Aimovig and Ajovy when each one would wear off. I'm trying Vyepti now to see if it lasts longer. Hoping that is not happening with you, but I thought I'd mention it as I know other people who have had the same issue as me with the CGRP-inhibitors wearing off. If you get the Ajovy pre-filled syringe, let me know how it goes! I have a video on injecting it, if you are curious here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h6yYf9eKrr2Ypas.html Thank you for your kind words. I'm so glad the video was helpful! Rooting for you! 💜

Have you tried leaving it out of the fridge for at least an hour before injecting? That helps the pain with some people.

Omg the temptation to curse after the auto-injector!!!!! When I do the auto injector I just say stream out the f word in a consistent stream until it's over with my eyes closed. And I do not curse normally. I feel so validated. Thank you for recommending this video to me on your other video! I think I am going to go ahead and ask for the syringe.

Yesssss!!!! As you saw, I had to change my word bc I was on camera. Sometimes a curse word feels like the only appropriate word!! I’m so glad you watched the video. If you do switch to the syringe, let me know how it goes!

@IncredibleAnyway soooooo I'm back haha. I actually missed two doses of Ajovy out of fear of the prefilled syringe that I know I asked them to fill. And now I have it and it's been out of the fridge for a couple of days so the clock is ticking on me. I need to do it but I can't convince myself to! My question for you is, how hard do you push for the quick dart in? And have you ever tried doing it in your leg instead? I'm so scared I'll push too hard or not hard enough. And I'm too scared to do it in my stomach. Ugh why do these things have to be so hard.
@vidhoard
@vidhoard 2 ай бұрын
@IncredibleAnyway Just kidding I'm back!! I just did it. I sucked it up and put earbuds in and blasted my favorite "let's freaking do this" music and closed my eyes and went for it. When I opened my eyes, it hadn't even pierced the skin haha. And out of panic in a split second decision of just wanting it to be over I just pushed it in. It wasn't a dart motion at that point, it was just a push. So I thought it would hurt. But it DIDN'T. If I wasn't looking I wouldn't have even known it happened. Pushing the medicine in was hard and I was scared to do it but I got it done. It only stung a tiny bit. NOTHING NEAR as horrendously painful as that stupid autoinjector. I will say that I was on the verge of passing out by the end and had to go put my feet up haha. But hopefully that will fade. Idk if I'll be able to do it again because honestly that took everything in me to do but I might do a nurse visit to have them do it for me if it is going to hurt that much less! Once again thank you for your help with this. Sorry for ranting about myself, I just don't have anyone else who can actually relate so talking about it here helps!

Some people say that it hurts less if you leave it out of hte fridge for several hours beforehand. I did that, but it still hurt.

I recommend using Lidocaine 4% cream a couple hours before the injection for those worried about the pain. Lidocaine 4% cream (brand name Aspercreme) is available over the counter and is fairly cheap. It is very helpful. I never feel pain from my injections when I use Lidocaine beforehand.

Old video but I have a question do you give it to yourself in the stomach if so do you do it at a 90-degree straight-in or a 45-degree angle? I have to move it to my stomach because of another shot I have to give myself weekly I just did it tonight at a 90-degree angle but I'm afraid that the needle all the way in is too far in and I'm hitting an Internal body part. But I don't think I am. Just a feeling I have
@IncredibleAnyway
@IncredibleAnyway 7 ай бұрын
The medication comes with a patient insert. I don't have one with me, but I am pretty sure that it should still be done at a 90 degree angle int he stomach. I would look at the patient insert next time you give it. Or you could ask your pharmacist/doctor. The needle is only long enough to go into your skin because it is a subcutaneous injection, so no worries about hitting an internal organ. It can't do that. If you are having any issues post-injection or concerns, I would call your doctor.

I was super worried about the pain with the autoinjector but I pinched the skin (which I’m assuming everyone does, but if not - that’s a good subq technique) and it was totally fine. Way better than my syringe (which I love having control over). There was a tiny bit of pain around the 7 or 8 second mark but then it was fine. Yay!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Everyone is different and it helps other people who see the comments what other people experience. Glad that it did not hurt like you were concerned about. That is awesome! My doctor's office taught me to spread out the skin, so not everyone pinches. :)

@@IncredibleAnyway I’m in healthcare and the way we teach (and do) subq injections is to pinch the skin. I wonder if that would have helped when you were using the auto injection.

I like being in control of the speed of the needle going in my body which is the reason I prefer the prefilled syringe and don’t like the autoinjector. I just read the Ajovy auto injector patient instruction leaflet and it says to place it against the skin at 90 degree angle and press down against the skin (no pinching). The instructions Ajovy gives for the subq prefilled syringe is to pinch the skin. 😊

I was on Trulicity for a while and I had such an issue with being able to push the button. I would sit there holding it on me for like an hour, not being able to get up the courage to push the button. I wish they had it in syringes- that would be so much easier haha! I’m such a control freak

We can be control freaks together lol! I'm with you - syringes are the best IMO. I don't understand why they only make autoinjectors for so many meds!

Oh that's interesting, I've only ever had auto injectors. i like that i don't have to think about it, though one time my trulicity got stuck and then squirted all over the room. Eep! I guess I'd get used to it, I've just never had to do that. I've never felt that it hurt, just a pinch. But I'm a lot, um, fluffier lol. (I moved to doing it in my belly where i have alooot of fat and it hurts a lot less.)

I can understand liking not having to think about it with auto-injectors. Oh no about hte trulicity squirting all over! If I ever get another auto-injector again I will be brave and try it in my belly - maybe it will hurt less for me there too.
